To Esdham!
WHO: Rukia Kuchiki, OPEN
WHAT: Rukia makes a trip to Esdham for multiple purposes, the least of which is to deliver a beautifully illustrated report of the past month's summary. You might find it useful if you got lost in the last event. You might not. The post is for the report itself, but feel free to tag in for CR on the way there, on the way back, or while in Esdham itself.
WHEN: September 5th - 7th
WHERE: Esdham
As you were already made aware, the Tarutaru Palitutu, formerly known as Jessie, sent an ultimatum to the Heroes of Light requesting a meeting on the Calm Plains. If they did not appear, she threatened she would destroy the city of Aqures Ixen. We went to meet her as requested, and as promised she appeared with the Moogle Artemicion and the Heran known as Deweg. Upon arrival she asked if the Heroes of Light had discovered an alternative to defeating the Calamity that had not been previously attempted by former generations of Heroes. She claimed that our attempt to communicate with the Calamity through the Avatars had merit. She claimed that we needed these three things:
1. To improve and perfect the Soul Divider, located in the First Crystal.
2. To control the fragment of the Calamity that lingers within all Heroes summoned to this world.
3. The power to face Garland.
To test us, she attacked with the Ultima Weapon.

We were called upon to use our strongest attacks and abilities. Though some perished, it was only temporarily, and no casualties were suffered. As for Deweg's status, we cannot confirm it at this time.
Directly after the defeat of the Ultima Weapon, Palitutu banished us to the Rift, where we were able to gain access to our home worlds. It took the entirety of the month, and though many did find their way to their home worlds, we were not able to locate Palitutu until the very end of August. Accompanied by Artemicion, she informed us that she would consider us too weak to do what needed to be done unless we managed to kill her.
The ensuing battle was short, and we did come very close to ending her life. Though it was heavily considered to let her die, and heatedly debated, in the end we decided it was best to keep her alive for the time being so long as we had a way to prevent her from simply teleporting away to resume her previous crimes.

Artemicion is, as far as I am aware, currently incarcerated while Palitutu remains in critical condition at the hospital. Her fate is to be decided at a later time, presumably by the current regent Cid, but possibly by the Heroes should he defer the decision to us. In the aftermath of the battle, a gold crystal was given to us by Palitutu, which is being used to slow the progress of the Calamity and buy us more time to accomplish our objectives.
We apologize for the length of our absence and, after sufficient rest, we are ready to resume our duties to halting the crystallization of this world and saving those worlds from which we hail.

Thank you for putting this together. I can't imagine how tired you must be after everything, and still there are things to be done. If there's anything I can do for you, let me know, okay Rukia?
no subject
[He's not wrong. She is tired, and she was definitely disappointed to find Raven in the hospital yet again. This time, it seems like he might have gone under for much longer than a week, considering they'd been warned that they might need to clear out the room he'd had for any new arrivals assigned to their house. But it had happened so often in the past, having Raven disappear only to learn he'd been crystallized, that the news only served to leave her feeling...somewhat numb. Almost as if she'd been expecting it.]
[It doesn't mean she can't face Flynn with a smile, though. He's been a good friend, and she appreciates his manners and kindness.]
I'll keep your offer in mind. I need to test out my new skills to be certain. I'm also ashamed to admit that I haven't seen much of Esdham outside of the military facilities.

[Rukia agrees with a smile, but it fades as she looks out over the city. The Calamity is creeping forward much too quickly, and she's worried about what will happen to this place. Hopefully they will grant her the funds she needs to preserve this place.]
It's a long way to travel for non-military personnel, however. What brings you all the way out here, Flynn?

[Rukia frowns at him, then down over the side of the ship.]
But I can understand your sentiments. There are many things I feel ill-equipped to handle, as a shinigami must not interfere with the affairs of the living.
[Such as deciding whether Palitutu was meant to live or die.]
If you're truly feeling restless, you may accompany me on my future travels. Ordinarily I make the trips alone, but it would be safer and wiser to have at least one other companion present.
no subject
Thank you, Rukia. I appreciate your friendship.

So, what kind of place is Edhsam like, Rukia?
no subject
Well, it tends to be hot. In the winter season it's quite comfortable, but as of now, the heat can be difficult to endure for those who aren't accustomed to it. The military facilities are vast and well organized. But beyond that...
[She sighs with a shrug of her slim shoulders.]
I've heard it used to be a place of great art and culture, but the war with Hera changed that. I confess I haven't seen much of the actual city to be of much use as a tour guide.
no subject
[She's seen it happen a few times in her lifespan. Not that she'll ever admit her age out loud.]
Then how about we go exploring together? Maybe we can find some local confections!
no subject
That sounds like fun.
[She smiles.]
I'll be off-duty in the evening, if you want to meet up at the airship docks then. There should be at least one place that stays open for visitors in the latter part of the day.
no subject
[time-skip~]
[Lailah didn't have a watch, but she didn't seem all too concerned about the time, anyway. The airship docks were lively as people were still coming and going, but at least it was well-lit so she could keep an eye out for Rukia.]
no subject
[So when she arrives, she's sporting a pair of denim shorts and a loose-fitting black dolman shirt. It's casual, it's comfortable, and she thinks it suits her. When she arrives to meet Lailah, she seems to be in a pretty good mood.]
Greetings!
[She comes to a stop with a grin, hands on her hips.]
Ready to start looking around?

Gonna hit this first with Mikleo since I 'm on his account :D
Of course, for the time being he didn't really know what to expect of the situation other than to take it as it is. He was after all watching every minute of it happening in silence, while wanting to say things but keeping himself from doing so because his thoughts were mostly voiced by the many that were on his side. He only supported them with potions and other healing things he had packed. ]
It's truly unfortunate that she has to go through such means to make a point. I can't say her methods are ideal-- but I suppose in a way, it is giving us the question of how strong is our determination?
[ He closed his eyes. ]
Thank you for this, even if I have experienced it myself, it is helpful for those who were not involved in the initial fight. I've also learned what I have missed as well.
no subject
[Rukia frowns, her face serious at first.]
Most concerning of all is our lack of unity. I had not expected the debate over Palitutu's fate to become quite so heated. Harsh words and even threats were exchanged. I can't say I'm impressed with the behavior of many individuals.
[She shakes her head at his offer of thanks.]
No need for gratitude. There are certain duties I must fulfill as an enlisted member of the military. I'm pleased that you found it useful. How are you faring?
no subject
[ He puts a hand under his chin as he closes his eyes. He seemed to be in deep thought for a moment. ]
Everyone was fueled by their emotions and what they wanted to do. Such things cannot easily be stopped. Unity is even harder to achieve when there are several different beliefs.
[ If this was Glenwood, the would have all been hit with the Malevolence and turned into Hellions. Mikleo would have to watch them all suffer a sad fate while being unable to do anything. Luckily it was not Glenwood and such things didn't exist here, but it didn't make it any less serious. ]
Killing her or attempting to kill her was fruitless from the beginning. She holds many keys that we need to unlock the mysteries we faced. Now she is in critical condition and are unable to do anything but wait and prevent the Calamity from consuming the world.
[ He clenched his fists. If only he had done more than he could back when the fight brewing but Mikleo knew he wasn't able to do anything on his own with the amount of people and emotions that were displayed. ]
It is still a very helpful thing you did, regardless of what reason it may be for. I am doing fine, much better than I was a few days ago-- and yourself?
no subject
Agreed. I have no wish to sound cold, but she is indeed a resource. And I do not believe her to be inherently evil, so much as desperate. In a way, I pity her.
[She folds her arms upon the railing of the balcony to look out over the city.]
But I can't begrudge the others of their ill feelings. I was not present when she betrayed them, nor had I known her previously as a friend when she was simply known as 'Jessie.' Even so, there are some who handled the matter very poorly.
[Rukia's glance falls to the side, taking in the clenched fists in silence. He's frustrated, it seems.]
I'm well. But what do you mean, a few days ago?
no subject
[ He replied nodding his head to her words. She wasn't wrong about it either. He didn't want to sound objective but Palitutu was a source of answers that they all desperately need and now they didn't even know if she'll survive. The Crystals were all acting up strangely and he knew for a fact that people were dying and not coming back. What was going on?! He doesn't even know anymore. Once he found answers, he gained more questions. It was frustrating. ]
Indeed.I am not fond of her ways but I heard many stories about her. I don't recall ever really engaging with her the way others have. I only read about her in documents and such in the library and the computers that had our information displayed.
[ He looks away. ]
A lot of things have happened in the last few days, is what I meant to say. The past month has been the worst it's been since I came here.
no subject
[It really has been the worst month, and she was one of the Heroes who caught the plague going around. There's a sneaky sort of loneliness that creeps up on her when she least expects it, and it dwells longer than she'd like it to stay. The Calamity continues to spread, the Heroes are fighting and calling each other foul names, their worlds are suspended in the Rift... Sometimes the weight of their responsibilities is crushing. But what can she do? There's no time to sulk, and it accomplishes nothing. If anything, dwelling on sour feelings just makes things worse.]
You've undergone a fair number of trials yourself before joining with the rest of us, I understand. So to hear that it's the worst from someone like you, the situation is dire indeed.
[She loosely holds her hands, resting her forearms on the ship railing.]
Are you all right? You seem to be the type who worries more for others than yourself. Your needs should be met as well.

He didn't need to be part of that massacre. Ironically she was at the hospital in critical state. At least from what he observed. Never once did he actually enter the scene of the battle. He watched it from the sideline and would intervene if it was something he needed to do. In this case, not really. It was clear what everyone's stances were and he didn't need to chime in to join the party. He stroked Repede's head briefly as the dog whined a little noticing that his master was in deep thought.
He shifts back up to find Rukia and her report. As silly as it seemed, it was a lot more helpful than he would like to admit. It was summarized perfectly for everyone that wanted a detailed description of what was going on. ]
As silly as your artistic abilities are, Shorty, you sure make one hell of a story teller.
[ he replied giving her a wave of his hand. He's going to start off as delicately as he can and hopes that she has either heard of it and going to talk to him about it or he'll have to tell her what has happened to Raven. He'll see how this goes. ]
no subject
[Don't think she doesn't suspect Yuri's worried about her, though. Flynn rode over to Esdham with her too, and if Yuri's taking the trip too, well. His concern seems obvious enough, and merited. She won't blame him for taking precautions to prevent the way she'd turned out in that vision.]
[She's got her drawing pad neatly tucked under her arm as she goes to meet Yuri after the meeting. Now that her main objectives have been taken care of, she can relax. Now might be as good a time as any to have a little talk.]
[His insult to her art earns a semi-playful (but semi-serious) glare, and she holds her pad a little more protectively.]
I'm not sure I should be grateful for such a backhanded compliment.
[Her response is dry, but good-humored. If she's sad, it really doesn't show.]
Come. I'll walk you back to your inn. Perhaps if you praise my art, I might be persuaded to ask the innkeeper to give you a military discount.
no subject
Of course, he doesn't openly say all of this mostly because he doesn't want to have any serious conversations. It wasn't an insult but she could take it as she wants. He wouldn't correct her. He knows that he doesn't mean anything mean by it mostly. ]
Whatever you want to take it as, I suppose. It's helpful regardless.
[ He replies with a shrug. He smiles as he ruffles her hair. ]
That's out of the ordinary. You're usually requesting I take you back.
[ He joked, but he knew that they needed to speak so it's fine. ]
Huh, well it's not all that bad to pay in all, honestly.
[ He pats Repede some before the dog gives Rukia bark of greeting. Yuri takes a few steps towards the direction of the inn and turns back to ask her the question that's been on his mind. Of course, he knows she's probably suspecting something. He's also not trying to hide it. ]
How are you doing? Aside all the stuff that's been happening.
no subject
The barracks are just down the hall. It would be ridiculous to request an escort.
[She smiles, her stance gracefully poised but relaxed as she falls into step beside her friends. Yuri's inn it is.]
[Aaaand there it is, the question she was sure he was going to ask. She chuffs a little 'hmph' and rolls her shoulders.]
No need to be delicate with me. You're asking if I'm all right now that Raven has entered crystal stasis once again.
[Her chin lifts so she can look at him directly, and he can see that she's not about to duck away from the matter. After a moment of thought, she releases her breath and faces forward again.]
To be honest, I've been expecting it for quite some time, and I suspected it might have already happened when he didn't appear in the rift with the rest of us. I can't say I'm pleased, but it wasn't a shock. I'm well enough. What about you?
[Her elbow pokes his side.]
We may have been dating, but I expect his absence affects you just as much.
no subject
I suppose you're right but who knows with you, Shorty.
[ He added briefly. He did acknowledge her gesture of kindness. It was nice walking together every so often and they needed to talk anyway. ]
Heh. It wasn't all that delicate.
[ Yuri gives her a laugh. He was being considerate for the lack of better words. ]
Pretty much. You don't look like your usual self.
[ He waits for her to speak again without interrupting her as he keeps his hands crossed briefly. She does have a point on the fact that neither of them saw Raven during the whole event with the dimensional rifts. He was already expecting the worst. He can't say Rukia wasn't either. ]
You sure don't sound it-- me?
[ He raised a brow. He should feel really upset with this but he doesn't. He knows that it's not like the other can control what happens to him. ] H-Hey.
[ What was that jab for? He didn't do anything wrong. ]
The old man's always trying to kick the bucket one way or another. He's done a bunch of crazy stuff, so I do expect him to get into these situations. He'll be back and kicking again once this is all over. He deserves a good rest anyway.
I'm pretty sure he had a good time when he's around.
no subject
A rest... Yes, that's a good way to put it.
[Rukia nods approvingly, agreeing whole-heartedly with Yuri's assessment. Of course, he also thinks she's not looking her best. It mildly irritates her; she isn't the sort of person who drags her feet or slumps or otherwise shows off her feelings. How can he say that?]
In what way?
[Rukia bristles, but only just a little. Her expression is thoughtful as she faces forward.]
It's not melancholy. Of course I miss him, but...ah. Hmmm. How do I put this?
[It's not easy to put the feelings into words, especially since she usually doesn't even try. But Yuri's seen her at her worst, so she can try a little harder for his sake.]
He's been absent more often than he's been present. Perhaps you could say I've just grown used to it? But that's not entirely accurate either. Hmmmm...
[She furrows her brow as she knuckles her chin in thought, frowning to herself.]
I think it's just a feeling of closure. There was so much uncertainty and worry in the past, but now that I know it's truly done, it's as if I can say goodbye at last, and be grateful for the experiences he gave to me. He was my first love, after all.
[She might look strangely proud about that.]
Had I not come to this world, I'm not certain I would have ever had a chance to know what it was to date somebody, and feel that kind of intimate affection. Now that I have, how can I harbor regrets?
