One Day at a Time

Characters: Genesis "Genny" Rhapsodos and whomever Monty runs into (preferably those who've had CR before)

Summary: Being unenhanced has its drawbacks. Her immune system, something that was lacking a little before, is now even weaker. Now Genesis has to deal with a bad case of the flu and being in an unfamiliar world!

"...kupo? Kupooo?"

Genesis groaned as Monty continued to hover worriedly over her, she waved him away as she curled up in her bed. She shivered with chills but she felt so warm too, her throat dry and scratch and her chest hurting from coughing so much. She knew she was sick, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. Of course, she wished she had foreseen this. She really should have, given her health in the past prior to mako enhancements.

"Monty, just go away," She murmured into her pillow. "Can't sleep with you whining."

"But you're sick, kupo! What do should I do?"

"Being quiet is a start."

"Kupo!" Monty, instead, went a different route. He went away, like she asked, but instead, left the house to find someone that she might know who could help her. Maybe have some medicine? He didn't know.

"Alright... guess you're okay then..." She liked Genesis, sort of.

Yuffie rolled to her side to look at Gen closely. "Why you go and get sick anyway? Seems like an awful lot of trouble. OH! Do you plan to date Angeal then? Since you pretty much said not right now. Why do you live by yourself?"

Luckily, her face was already flushed from her fever or Yuffie would have seen her blush from those words. "I never said anything of the sort. All I said was that we weren't dating. I don't have divine control over when I do and don't get sick, it just happened. You ask a lot of questions."

Yuffie shrugged, she just wanted to see if Genesis would answer them all and was happily surprised by her response. Well two out of three, it was close enough.

"Just curious is all." She didn't think it was to hard to avoid getting sick but she kept her snarky comment to herself.

Yuffie was thinking about apologizing about splashing water on her but she didn't really want that to get back to Angeal. It was a massive miscalculation on her part and despite their earlier argument she wanted to be civil. She was to interested in this OTHER Gaia.

She began to play with some string she found as she turned to face Gen. "So tell me about your Gaia. Still got Materia?"

Of course she was curious. She sighed and shifted on the couch, yawning slightly and trying not to cough again. She rolled her eyes at yet another question and wondered when Angeal would come back.

"Yes, we have materia. Manufactured and natural," She replied. "I personally prefer natural made."

"How is it made?" As much as Yuffie loved Materai it was still a new obsession so she didn't know much about it besides the obvious.

Angeal had returned from his house with firewood and a tin filled with tea that he had been given by one of the ladies that he had helped as payment. Teas were expensive and Angeal didn't turn down any gift that he could use.

He stepped into the house and placed the tin on the table across from Genesis so he could put the wood in the fireplace to warm up Genesis. He had changed his clothes to the Monk garb since his SOLDIER uniform was soaked.

His vest was open since closing it wasn't an option. He decided that getting involved in a conversation that he knew nothing about was a bad idea and instead opted to stay busy.

Genesis shrugged. "I never really bothered to look at the machines and how they make it. As for the natural ones, they just form over gradually. Usually from mako springs."

When Angeal walked in without his usual garb on and with that vest, her face flushed a little more than it already was. She tried to hide it by smothering her cough in her blanket.

"Why do you want to know so much about materia?"

Yuffie didn't answer Genesis's question instead she just stared quietly at Angeal. She didn't hide her stare, it was his fault for not wearing a shirt.

"Don't go walking around in a girls house like that!" She picked up a nearby couch pillow and tossed it at Angeal's face. "Put a shirt on!"

He turned to face the girls after he had rolled his eyes with a soft huff. "I would but you soaked it and there was no reason to wear armor. This was the only thing I had left, unfortunately." He said with his arm rested over his raised knee with the other on the floor.

Angeal did have a point, but she was pretty certain walking around in a wet shirt wouldn't have bothered him all that much given he wasn't sick. "You can go home and get a proper shirt if you want, Angeal. I'm not going anywhere."

She had the moogles and even Yuffie. She would be fine.

"Yeah. Go put a shirt on. I'll take care of Genesis." Yuffie smiled brightly.

"Besides the moogles will give you clothes if you ask or do you want to go around showing off. I didn't know you were that kind of guy." At this point she was just giving him a hard time because it was fun.

He wasn't aware that his moogle had other clothes. He was only aware of what he was given. Mogington chuckled and sank behind the couch. "I knew I forgot something, kupo." He perked up and flew toward Angeal without the thought to give his master time to react. "I'll fix that up in a jiffy, kupo!"

"Wait!" Angeal had just looked up when Lester had begun his changing. A large sign appeared that said Do Not Disturb in bright orange letters that covered Angeal's body while Mogington zipped behind the sign to change Angeal's clothes.

In a puff of smoke, the sign vanished to reveal what Angeal was dressed in which was nothing more than a t-shirt and blue jeans along with his combat boots. "Better?"

Genesis looked rather shocked at the sudden clothes change. Still, she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. She rather liked the view. She always did when watching Sephiroth and Angeal work out. Still, this kind of casual look was new and something she could see herself rather enjoying.

"You should wear jeans more often," She said, looking over a Monty. "How come you haven't given me regular clothes either? I had to buy mine!"

Monty huffed at her. "You didn't tell me you were going to buy clothes, kupo! Or I would have told you so, kupo!"

"Neat trick." Yuffie looked like she should be eating popcorn as she watched the show. It was obvious that she was entertained.

Her grin widens. "Jeans do suit you. Kind of like a lumberjack." She really thought he looked good but she wasn't going to compliment him without it sounding sarcastic.

Angeal was trying to hid his blush and decided to keep his back turned to finish up with his task to build the fire. "I'll take your word for it." His chuckle sounded a bit embarrassed but not to the point of obviousness, unless the people around him knew him well enough.

He had realized that he was surrounded by two women and that made the situation even more awkward and he coughed. "This wood is a bit dusty."

"Well, I never used it," Genesis replied, smothering another cough. Which threw her into a rather harsh coughing fit and she rolled over to keep herself from coughing on Yuffie or Angeal as she worked through this one. It hurt, really, her body already sore from previous fits and her throat was on fire.

She almost wanted to cry. Once it was over, she groaned and stayed where she was.

Yuffie jumped to Genesis's side to make sure she wasn't actually dying. Once she was sure that she was alive Yuffie turned, eyeing Angeal. "And you didn't bring her tea?"

Her hands were placed on her hips as she gave him a very matter of fact expression. "Is that how you take care of those who are sick?"

Angeal sighed and sat back on his heels. "I can only do one thing at a time and yes, I have tea. I have to get it made before I can serve it, unless you think that the medicinal properties are better dried." He was stern but not upset and there was a sense of humor in there somewhere.

Once he had the fire started, he stood up to start the kettle. He pulled a small jar of honey from the basket he brought with him and set it aside to remind him to put some in her tea to ease her sore throat.

"Yuffie, stop," She murmured, shaking her head. She was in no great hurry for have Angeal help her, mainly because she didn't want anyone to be helping her in the first place. She hated being sick and hated feeling weak and that she needed to be cared for. But she always tended to get very sick every so often. "He knows what he's doing."

He was just like her Angeal back home, so she didn't doubt this one.

Yuffie huffed, "I'm going to go make the tea then." Her stare focused back on Angeal. "Where do you have it?"

"Right here." He pulled out the large tin from the basket, the payment for a small service, and held it out toward her. "I'll go clean up the bedroom from the mess you made earlier. I should make you do it."

But the truth of the matter was that Angeal didn't exactly trust Yuffie to get the job done right and he was a perfectionist when it came to the care of certain things that included his friends.

Mogington was already on the job cleaning up. It was something that he did well since he came to Angeal's service. He didn't mind working at all and in fact, he was starting to look a bit muscular for a moogle.

"Angeal," She huffed. She didn't need them fighting now over taking care of her. It was bad enough that they were even here in the first place! Monty was gone as well, having followed Mogington up to clean up.

Yuffie snatched up the tin with a smirk. "The best tea is from Wutai as well as the best tea makers. Which means you should clean up the water." She still thinks the mess up stairs was his fault because he was suppose to be the target.

Not that she felt bad or anything. She took big steps towards the kitchen to begin boiling water. Though after it was set up she stood watching the room from the kitchens door frame; waiting for water to boiler was boring.

Angeal rolled his eyes with a huff while Mogington was just glad to have the chance to get away from the squabbling which was odd to see anyway. He looked toward Genesis with a slightly bewildered expression. "What's wrong?"

Of course he hadn't realized just how strange this scene looked and thankfully no one else had seen any of them in this state. He walked slowly toward her and knelt down to check her temperature. "Don't worry, it's not that bad. It's just a little light moving. While one of the beds you can use, the mattress still has to be aired out."

"I'm not worried about the mattress," Genesis replied, curling up in the blanket and leaning into his cool hand. "Just stop arguing." Her voice raised a little. "Both of you."

If they really wanted to help her that badly, then she would rather they do it without fighting.
