HOSPITAL.
It was another day of normal rounds, at least, as normal as it got these days. At the beginning of her shift, Vaan, now crystallized, had been brought to the heroes wing. With a heavy heart she had spent the better part of her shift there, her quiet regret locking itself tighter into her heart as she stood there. Yet again, someone she had cared about had been taken away so easily... with nothing that she could do.
Sitting now at the station, she rubbed at the side of her head, voicing only a sigh. "Y-Yuna?" Momolumi poked his head out from in front of the desk at her station.
"Mm?" she lifted her head, a small smile making itself known when she saw who it was.
"Ku... kupo shouldn't you eat something?" Eating, being a very important past time to Momolumi, was something that he kept close track of for his hero. And she hadn't had anything all day!
"I'll be all right..." she trailed off slowly, reaching to pat him gently on the head as she floated over the counter top. The sound of footsteps from one of the hallways finally caught her attention as she looked up, "Ah, hello..."
DARK VALEFOR.
Breathing in deeply, Yuna stepped outside of her house at B7, and into the bright, warm air. Recently the weather had taken a turn for the better and the islander found herself spending more and more time outside. The fresh breeze felt crisp as she inhaled, then exhaled slowly, opening her eyes and smiling upwards to wards the sun.
In her grip, she held her father's staff, the gift she had received back on Christmas. Looking down, her fingers tightened around its shaft as she thought about how it had gotten here — knowing the possibility that Braska had been in this world wasn't unheard of. For now, all Yuna could do was move forward, though today, she was looking for something more familiar...
Moving slowly but deliberately, she spread her arms out at first, stretching them as she thought — how many times had her father made these same steps? — as she folded her arms, then began the motions of the Sending.
Although there were no souls to send here, the dance was nostalgic, and she felt closer to Braska in that moment than she had in a long time, losing herself in the moment, time falling away... until an ominous cry moaned.
Her eyes shot open, blue-and-green scanning the area for the chorus of the dead that started to sound all around her — the distinct sound of pyreflies gathering. Then, suddenly, a great light shot upwards, parting the skies as a glyph took shape, a concealed figure coming crashing down through them.
Yuna knew these glyphs — she knew these sights and sounds! But how could it be...?
There was no mistaking it. With a painful screech — Valefor her very first aeon... landed in the yard. But her colouring looked foul and tainted, and her cries... this was just like how Bahamut had looked during her time in Kalki's lab!
WILDCARD.

HOSPITAL. (multiple threads welcome!)
HOSPITAL.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know anyone else was here."
She didn't want to interrupt but she wanted to place the flowers down before she left.
no subject
"Are those — for the crystallized?"
no subject
"Yes, I make deliveries to the Hospital regularly. I thought to bring flowers for those in Crystal and..." Her voice trailed off but her eyes turned to Vaan. She felt awful for what happened and now she felt like she couldn't right things.
no subject
"I'm sure that... they appreciate it," at least, it was comforting to imagine they did. "I'm certain that Vaan does, at least."
no subject
Terra looked over at Vaan feeling her heart reach out towards the crystal figure. He was her friend, one of her first friends and while she didn't know him, he believed that she was a good person. She wanted to live up to that.
She stepped forward and placed the flowers next to Vaan's crystal first. "Thank you."
no subject
And Yuna, well... she knew what had been the cause, he'd shared that with her, at least.
"Vaan... was always happy to help, wasn't he? I remember when he spoke about you, in the Conflict. How he wanted to see you freed..."
no subject
“He’s a much better person than I am.”
She was scared, even now, and there was nothing to alleviate her worries.
“Excuse me. I should go.”
Re: HOSPITAL. (multiple threads welcome!)
He turned round for a moment before he finally found the source. His eyes widened as a feeling of deja vu washed over him. Or considering it was a memory of that vision perhaps vuja de was more appropriate.
"Oh, hey, Yuna, how are you?" As soon as the words cleared his lips he noticed how tired she looked. A frown took over his face as he began to worry about her. Was overworking herself her natural state?
no subject
"You're... here for a visit?" Everyone knew someone in stasis, these days.
no subject
Kalki's video didn't help much in that confidence.
"Uh...yeah. Zack. And Tifa now too." And Aerith and Angeal and Genesis and Genny and Elena and Barret. There were almost more Gaian's in crystal than there were awake.
no subject
"I'm sorry... about Tifa." She was the Gaian Yuna knew best... well, at least in another world. "She was— a good friend of mine, too... at one time."
no subject
"Thanks. Making friends was always easy for her. She always knew when to be serious in one moment and then happy and open in another." He sighed and smiled weakly. "To be honest, despite being neighbors I didn't really get to know her until just before I left town. It was my own fault, really."
no subject
"Seeing her on the battlefield was really something, too. She was so strong... I hope that, someday— I can be that strong, too." She gazed at her friend, encased in Crystal, for a few minutes more, before turning again to Cloud.
"Does that mean... you grew up together?" Childhood friends, maybe?
no subject
"Her dad didn't like me much either, especially after that one time..." He trailed off. It wasn't an uncomfortable story so much as it was a complicated one to tell. And he didn't feel like it was the right time to tell it. "But yeah, Tifa was strong. Physically especially. You'd need years of training to catch up there."
He looked away now, in the direction of where her crystal was being kept. "But she's more gentle than she seems. More vulnerable. It can seem like strength, but it's more like she feels all of her emotions as strongly as she possibly can. The good and the bad. And she's honest. She's no good at pretending she feels any other way than she does." His cheeks turned a bit pink, smiling as he thought about her.
DARK VALEFOR. (one single thread, please!)
Re: DARK VALEFOR. (one single thread, please!)
Grabbing his axe, he ran towards the district and pulled up at the sight of the Dark Aeon. "By the twelve, is someone summoning in town?"
Running up to Yuna, he called out to her with a wordless shout.
DARK VALEFOR. (one single thread, please!)
On leave, there are so many things he -could- do with his time that odds are Sephiroth ended up there anyway even if it might be for a lunch break or at the end of the day when the sun were going down. It was getting later and later every day, with the onset of spring in Aqures. When he were to go back to Esdham again, he remembered well how scalding hot and dry it would probably be in comparison.
It was the screech that was heard that chilled him, though Sephiroth would never admit to having not noticed the shot of light or parting of clouds that had occurred a little behind where he'd come from. His hand immediately went up to the handle of Masamune; the over-long sword sheathed and strapped at a slight angle down his back, as he first turned and began to stride back in the direction of where the cry had to have come from.
"Yuna- are you alright?" Just like him to demand a status of the situation first, as he passed the threshold into the yard, coming up parallel but just a little to the side of where the Adventurer had also taken an interest. Sephiroth hadn't yet pulled his sword, but inside his will rested on that initial cast of combat mode; almost as if deciding if he needed it.

What was wrong? Valefor wasn't supposed to...
"Yuna, get back!" He ran to her side, already prepared for a potential fight. "What just happened?" It was unsettling to see Valefor like this. It almost seemed like she was in pain.
no subject
The sight of Valefor's light from the heavens sent her splintering across town, and the thief appears out of breath as the last of the pyreflies escape the chaos.
Daggers drawn, she'd meant to look for the foe the feathered creature had been summoned to fight. Instead, Rikku frowns up at the tortured sounds and strange look of Yuna's battle companion. Still under the assumption the calling was on purpose, she goes to move beside her cousin and Tidus to take up her guardian duties.
no subject
She had just seen a Summon, and it was in pain.
It didn't take her long to arrive, but once there, she didn't draw her katana. There was something very wrong here, and she didn't want to make a mistake and attack something she shouldn't.
Still, she took up a "ready" stance, and looked about, voicing the question foremost in her mind.
"What's wrong with the Summon? Is it hurt?"
feel free to keep a loose posting order! and additions are still welcome from here on, too c:
Before she could explain to those two what had happened though, as others started arriving as well. "It... It's Valefor!" she cried, just as Rikku made the scene and Sheena shortly after — but the only explanation she could offer was a shake of her head as she rose her father's staff in her hands, her grip on its shaft tightening.
"I don't know what happened, Valefor shouldn't be here!" An Aeon from Spira here in Crystallis, by her hand?! But first things first... "We need to get her away from the houses!"
Extending her wings with another cry, the heretical summon looked as though she was getting ready to swoop down for an attack, eyeing the Adventurer as she bat her wings, conjuring a strong gust of wind in the direction of the heroes to off-set their balance.
o7 Noted
He'd known only a little about Yuna, not so much of her story as a summoner back on her homeworld. No more than she really knew about his life as SOLDIER. But it was more than enough for Sephiroth to understand as Valefor cried out again just before issuing a buffet of wind down to attempt to knock their balances. He spread his stance, dug boots a little heavier into the ground and -thankfully- it seemed to be strong enough to hold, but it ripped his hair around something crazy and howled between the nearby buildings.
"You're right." Though it was clear it was the Adventurer who had the interest of the corrupted summon for the time being and knowing the price of only his first Combat ability in his custom job Sephiroth wanted to hold off as much as possible until it were entirely necessary.
"We're going to have to draw it outside of the City. Across this district, somehow."
Re: o7 Noted
Wind Type. Elemental. Threat Level: Unknown. Commence battle? Yes, No? YES.
"I will draw its ire and lead it outside, the rest of you formation with Sephiroth. No one heal or attack before its in position!"
The nice thing about his custom job? It was things like this as he brandished his weapon and the Echo flooded the area with a corona of light. For anyone particularly sensitive to it, it would be like some kind of "presence" as he Provoked Valefor and started backing up before running and throwing his axe like a boomerang at the summon to gather more threat.
"Legs don't fail me now...!"
And he took off running towards the gates.
[Echo: 5% Stats, Damage And Healing Done, HP and MP Increased by 5%]

Hearing that cry, Sheena stopped her questioning and immediately moved in front of the target of Valefor's attack, nearly losing her balance--if she hadn't pulled and dug her katana into the ground.
"We have to hurry," the ninja agreed, a suggestion on her lips--just as the Adventurer took off. "Dammit! Will he be able to outrun her?"
Because if not, she's got a Rheaird he can borrow.
(pops in here only as I'm about to go to bed so that the thread can carry on otherwise!)
But at that time that the Echo blotted out all with it's light, Sephiroth's attention snapped to the axe-wielder as the upward pull to his base stats settled. On top of the buff from the Job-passive mako inside of him the resulting buzzing seemed to almost make his skin crawl; Sephiroth could acutely feel all of his finer hairs standing on end. He couldn't distinguish any potential other 'presence' in it but even if he had the overall effect had charged his own inherent power almost too far, it was almost dizzying and Sephiroth were glad he hadn't yet initiated Combat Mode.
Not that he'd got long to dwell on adjusting, before the Valefor was being taunted all the way down the street. Sephiroth looked around to the other Heroes just once before also heading out of the yard and drawing as much speed as he could out of his own legs so as to keep up. Masamune curled backwards along the back of his left-arm as he went, a blink might have missed him sliding it from the tilted back-sheath as he hit the cobblestones of the street. Looking up, he imagined he might be able to make a jump high enough to connect with the summon if need be but-
Well, the last time he'd taken a risk like that he'd ended up house-bound for nearly two months. Sephiroth wasn't about to try that tactic as an attempt to slow Valefor down for the others, unless there weren't any other choice.

"Ho..."
The question as to how they accomplish this when the summon was apparently not listening is cut short when the blonde springs forwards, recognizing Valefor preparing to attack. Moving before her cousin and criss crossing her daggers, placing herself in the last spot she imagined winding up. Between Yuna and her aeon.
She watched, wide eyed in disbelief as the Besaid summon set its sights on the Adventurer and took off through town. "Ah?! Jeez. I forgot how scary they are when you're on the receiving end!"
no subject
Poised ready for an attack, the axe that was thrown her way was enough to get her attention, evading the sharp end just enough to only be nicked in the leg. But she certainly didn't like that... A wail shouted in the Adventurer's direction conveyed her displeasure.
But it had worked; and the great flyer was locked onto him, aggravated enough to follow with a sense of purpose — revenge.
Yuna took to running as well, her worried look plain on her features as she looked to Sheena first. "Yes, but —" her hesitations were just as clear in the way she glanced back at the summon, "this isn't right! She would never..." her mismatched eyes searched behind her for the spirals of Rikku's and the clear blue of Tidus'.... we have to help her! her message was a silent one to her guardians.
Their movement on foot was certainly slower that the creature in the air — who took full advantage of that. With a few full flaps of her wings, the aeon burst forward, then took off up into the air, looping around and down, claws aiming at full speed downwards at the Adventurer.
no subject
He couldn't let it switch targets, lest anyone else get in the way. He was the defender.
Skidding to a halt, he turned to face Dark Valefor head on as he invoked his Defiance Stance. Power flowed off his frame as he became hard as steel, his HP soaring well over everyone else's as he swung his axe around and slammed it into place behind his head, holding it.
A crackling barrier of circular glyphs appeared as Vengeance was invoked. 30% damage down shield, and when Valefor's claws would strike it, it would inflict a small portion of damage, just to keep its attention.
Silently, he hoped Yuna had a plan.
no subject
While the Adventurer was busy distracting Valefor, he began to cast Haste on himself and the party members.
"Once we get her out in the open, if any of you have a way of restricting her from attacking, use it." He stared at Yuna with nothing other than trust. This was going to be painful no matter what; he wanted to help spare her from having to hurt Valefor.
"If you think we can help her, then we will. Just tell us what to do."
no subject
There was only one thing for it. Sephiroth surged more energy through himself and into his boots as they pounded on the street while he caught up; increasing speed rather than slowing down.
He might not take a leap high enough to injure or get himself atop the large bird-like creature, but he could for sure provoke some of the attention onto himself. If what it took was to bounce it between him and the Adventurer than that would have to be the tactic.
Just before taking the leap, Sephiroth activated his own inherent Combat Mode to gain for himself a further surge of energy. Masamune was turned and -with any luck- as Valefor struck the conjured barrier, it would tear along the side of a wing as the silver tail of hair swept by.
Sephiroth almost stumbled with his own momentum as he hit the ground but just about managed to keep his balance and convert it into the forward motion he needed to keep running.

"Please! This isn't her! Give us a chance to help our friend!"
As much for Yunie, as for herself, it may have been from a distance -- but you did not fight beside someone without gaining a mutual respect. She recalled Valefor coming to Tidus in those crucial moments at Home, allowing her fellow guardian to beat out his frustrations,as if she understood -- wings curving down in comfort. Gentle.
In a poof of smoke, the assassin used Smoke Bomb and appeared at an adjacent side of the summmon, waving her arms and daggers wildly to try to drive the winged creature away from the others -- machina help her, towards herself, -- trusting Tidus to guard their charge, and Yuna to get get the aeon under control if there was any hope. Screaming the Spirain's name at the top of her lungs. "Valefor!!!" The gift of her job was Rikku could quickly move back to Yuna given the need.

Their honesty touched him, and Adventurer defended against the swooping attack as he leaped backwards, much farther than one would imagine.
"Geez," he said with a smile as he landed on a rooftop half a block away, such the power of the Echo enhancing his abilities. "There's no hope for it now. Let's just get her out of the city."
Provoking her once more with his ability, Adventurer took off along the rooftops as he bounded across gaps with relative ease. The comforting embrace of Hydaelyn's blessing upon him made him smile, and the paired Dragoon ability allowed him to leap far. He couldn't get too far away, but one last leap took him over the gates as he landed with a roll.
Sorry I'm late
Taking a quick look around he shot Sephiroth a nod before running to Yuna. He could tell by the anguish on her face that she knew something was going on. Placing himself between her and Valefor he glanced over his shoulder. "Just tell me what you need me to do. You can explain the rest later."
He wasn't going to just simply wait though and gathered a mass of dark energy in his hand which he threw at the flying Aeon. If it hit home it would render the magical beast blinded for a time. Not spectacular for leading it away from town but it would help keep people from getting hurt.
Where Cloud was defending, Zack took a bit more initiative. The Adventurer seemed to have things under lock and Sephiroth's brief stumble was a bit disconcerting, but then there was the lone girl calling for the creature's attention. Not knowing her own job setup or her plan, the chocobo ran to her side, trilling and nodding its head before turning to try to tell her to get on. Just because there wasn't a Chocobo Knight present, that wasn't going to stop the bird from helping because he wanted to.
its not to late, its never tooooo laaaaaate
Yuna watched in horror as friends struck friends... realizing that in her maddened state, the aeon's prowess seemed almost quadrupled. Tidus' Haste jump started her thoughts finally, and she nodded in his direction, trying her best to keep it together. Those around her would feel the warm sensation of both Protect and Shell wash over them. She needed to keep it together... Not just for the sake of the party, but for Valefor, too.
Rikku's sudden appearance at the beast's side was enough to cause confusion, grabbing her attention away from the Adventurer and Sephiroth both for a moment, to screech loudly at the thief. She was becoming more and more aggravated, and while her tail tried to fend off the silver SOLIDER, she whipped her head downwards, a glyphic force radiating from her hair as it lashed towards the Al Bhed.
"Rikku!" Yuna pleaded, coughing from the remnants of the smoke bomb. Everyone seemed to be looking to her, the summoner, for guidance. Only... the last time this happened the result was less than favourable. But the arrival of another hero called to her instead. "Cloud..." everyone coming together... to help them all.
With renewed purpose again, Yuna nodded, grateful for the blond man's help, and not needing an explanation she didn't seem to have anyway. "Keep going, we're almost out clear of the houses!" and a glance towards Cloud for him to understand where they were exactly. "We need to get her out of here."
Although his blast of dark energy hit its mark, Valefor was able to shake it off, immune to status effects, and only further enraged. She didn't seem to appreciate the enclosed space any more than the rest of them did... and this time, ignoring the Adventurer, she took off in the direction opposite of the heroes... what luck.
no subject
Yes, getting her away from the houses was the right idea, but not by doing something that would cause her to destroy them in the process.
Luckily, that wasn't happening, and hearing the pleading note in the other Summoner's voice, the ninja turned to her, her expression understanding. "I don't know how she came to be here, but you're the one she made a pact with. Deep down, she should remember that!"
How they would accomplish that, the ninja had no clue.
no subject
It seemed that the Adventurer had gotten its attention again, and Sephiroth took a moment to gauge the situation as Cloud's dark energy spell surged in from back a ways. Heaving a little in his breath, though it felt strong to do so and not tiresome at all. Between his mako-energy levels and the Echo on top, it was already likely that he'd probably be able to go for hours yet. Sleeping might even prove to be an issue tonight.
As the Aeon lifted itself higher into the air, and flew off pointedly away from the Heroes, Sephiroth drew himself back up to his feet and craned his neck up, looking around to at least try to get the bearing that the giant bird-type creature had flown in. The Adventurer could jump from roof to roof all he wanted; Sephiroth wasn't about to take that much of a risk chasing something down.
Better to wait for the others. Sephiroth eventually turned back to where the others had lingered back further, closer to Yuna's residence. Turning his long sword around and tucking Masamune back up the underside of his left arm again as he strode closer.
"Well, she's out of here now. Any ideas?"
no subject
Oh no, where’s your knight? I don’t wanna get you killed!
Spiral pupiled eyes blink, regarding Zack curiously for a moment at the nod. A quirk of the bird? Rikku hears her name get cried out in the same instant Valfor is swinging towards her. “Look out!”
Daggers criss crossing over her face, the thief springs to the side with all her might – tucking into a roll to evade the flare of the glyph that comes barreling down. The shell enchantment placed on her flares in stubborn resistance. The cobblestone of the street erupting where the magic struck it.
no subject
They seemed to be clear of most of the houses now at least, as the summoner searched the sky for her otherworldly friend, having lost her in the clouds. Mismatched eyes squinted in the afternoon sun, widening a moment later just after Sephiroth's words reached her.
Any ideas?
Well, she had one, that was for sure — "Take cover!"
The aeon didn't come into view at first, but the unmistakable laser-like attack of Energy Ray came barrelling through the obscurity, aimed right at the bulk of the heroes.
no subject
He realized he had kited the Aeon too close, and now... well...
Sensing the build up of energy, he charged back into the fray, bringing the full brunt of his power. Striking the ground, he swung his axe as Berserk took over, coupled with Vengeance. With a cry he threw the axe headlong into the Energy Ray, hoping to divert its course as he was too far from the attacker.
no subject
She stopped next to Yuna and was about to offer up an idea when the severity of the warning in the other woman's voice reached her. Looking up, she saw immediately what was going on and grabbed Yuna's hand, pulling her back out of the way of the attack.
"Down!" she commanded, shielding the Summoner.
That idea she had had? Yeah, it just changed.
no subject
The Energy Ray came down from somewhere in the clouds, well before the summon-gone-rogue might come into view and it was only by Yuna's prompt warning that Sephiroth's attention was snapped in the direction she had spotted the incoming attack. Moving with less than a second to spare.
He leaped down and away from the bulk of the group, better to scatter and dodge and then reassess, than attempt to take an unknown attack like that on head first; he's no stranger to the power that summons wielded and since he didn't even know this one it's better safe than sorry.
Immediately after collapsing his front to the pavement a fair distance away, it's almost as if he's spring-loaded, the dexterity with which he gets back to his feet - sword back out and around his front again - ready.
no subject
Cloud didn't like seeing Zack out in the middle of the fight without him, but it's what his bird chose to do. He trusted him.
"Kwehhhh!" Zack flapped again and ran around in some tight circles before trying to lead Valefor away from his city, doing his part to help that group. If anyone looked like they'd need assistance he'd divert to pick them up, but for now the bird was running and trying to get as much attention as he could.
no subject
"Oh...no."
At the telltale swoop of mighty wings the guardian used a combination smoke bomb to blink herself besides her summoner, just in time for the slice of the mighty blast.
"Yunie!" Rikku braces down in cover with her cousin, placing herself between the summoner and the attack.
