Twilight let out an annoyed sigh. There was the sounds of arguing outside the laboratory again. Sounds like Deadpool had tried something else again and was shut down. Seriously, the guy has good ideas, but poor implementation. Also, who's this Tony Stark and why does he think throwing money at problems solves them?

Tuning out the noise, Twilight began to focus back on the various things around her space in the lab. The notes and devices and the like scattered all over. A lot of her notes and theories debunked by other things discovered through the past few months... and there's the fact that there was that stupid portal standing there. Why did they get this close? She should seriously break it apart with her magic and put an end to it...

She let out a sigh as she turned and walked away, heading for the piles of Friendship Reports she got for Christmas. She had to take them here - why did she have a roommate like Ruby? Two corgis and a raptor?!

"What am I going to do?"

Hey, Twilight. What's wrong?

[Chiaki's just arriving for her part time lab shift.]

Oh, hi Chiaki. Sorry, just been a tad stressful. Things are coming down the line.

[She moves toward her.]

That time of day, I take it?

Really? It seems like we're right on schedule to me.

[But then again, she's looking at this from a gamer's perspective.]

Almost. I came a little early to talk to Alter Ego before I start.

Heh, half-empty, half-full...

[Twilight shakes her head.]

Understandable. I've been cooped up in here for awhile. Mostly so my stuff doesn't get ruined by my roommate's animals.

Your roommate? Are they in the Beastmaster job?

Yep. The girl with that large scythe. The corgi was one thing. The raptor and the second corgi? Too much! And they were going after my old Friendship Reports I got back from Christmas!

We just have a robot dog at my house. He's really well-behaved.

I guess next Christmas we can ask for obedience classes for her.

[Twilight chuckles a bit before shaking her head.]

That's rude of me, I'm sorry.

...So what are you working on in here?

[She's just gonna bluntly change the subject.]

Oh! Right! Well, I've been doing all sorts of research with various aspects of this world. Sadly, it seems that all of my theories have been blown apart. It's a little disheartening.

The important thing is to keep trying. A situation is never truly hopeless until you give up on it.

Exactly. Though, I am a little concerned about one thing - while we were at the Lunar Base, we found that the Ancients had weapons up there. Lasers of all kinds. Especially one aimed at at the planet. There was some talk of using the weapon to repower the First Crystal, but I'm afraid of how much it would work or if it would backfire.

Lasers, huh... I don't know if something like that would really work.

I doubt it, too. The Soul Divider runs on bio energy, more or less. That laser... isn't. If anything maybe we can use it on Garland or perhaps even the Calamity itself.

That's a better bet. Weapons should be used as weapons.

Agreed. It would be nice if we can use it for nicer purposes, but it's obvious that it would be too much of a gamble

It's best if we don't have to use it at all, but it never hurts to have an option.

Yeah, I wish we had opted to destroy it, but... all options and all.

We'll need all the help we can get against Garland. It should be fine as long as we use it responsibly, probably.

It can't be helped. But we're coming up on the last fight soon.

"I find lunch is a good plan at this time of day," Tazendra said. Not that it was lunchtime, but Tazendra had yet to master the art of the '24-hour day', despite years of trying, and had given up. There was only so much tolerance a circadian rhythm had for days only 80% their proper length.

Twilight chuckled a bit at that, turning to face Tazendra.

"It's not that late!" Twilight said. "Wish I had packed a snack, though."

"There is certainly food somewhere around here," Tazendra pointed out.

Of all the reasons one might expect of Cloud not helping out with research at both labs, the simplest one was that he lacked the time. Between Hero business and working at the Ranch, he had his own hands full. But he appreciated what they were doing there for the most part, and more to the point the Heroes devoting themselves to the task were friends.

Finding himself with a few days off at the start of the new year, and with Santa Cloud's job behind him but a lingering desire for good cheer, the blonde wandered into the Lab with drinks and sandwiches for all hard at work. Letting a hand offering a sandwich lead the way he followed up with an obvious question.

"Hey Twilight. What's up?"

"Huh?" Her train of thought broken, Twilight took sight of Cloud and the sandwich he offered. With a sheepish grin, she went to look to see if there was any meat in it, removed it and went to eat the sandwich before she answered.

"Working myself nuts." She admitted. "I need a vacation, but everything is on the line..."

"I think we all need one. At least we were able to enjoy Starlight."

Cloud was sure to check around before going to get everyone food. He'd been given a heads up about Twilight's preferences and so there was no meat to pick out.

"If you could go on vacation where would you go?"
