Event || Someday the Dream Will End

Characters: ?????????
Where: ?????????
When: The night from the fifth to the sixth of February.
Summary: All characters asleep during the night will have a dream, the same dream. This dream may reveal crucial information and may be helpful, should a rescue mission be mounted in order to save those imprisoned by the empire. As per the rules of dreams, there is no beginning nor end, characters won't be aware that this is all a dream until they awaken, etc.
Warning: Science experiments. Death.

Whoever you were in that dream, it was obvious that it was not you. You couldn't see yourself in a mirror, but it was apparent the person you currently were was wearing some sort of lab coat and was reading a letter. It was impossible to see exactly who the letter was addressed to, but the style was very formal and the destination was visible as the "Heran Research Center," apparently located in "Old Hera Island."

... The Emperor and myself are not convinced the capture of four Heroes of Light was worth the loss we suffered. As we have found no evidence of the Queen's presence in Esdham, I am afraid we are left to assume the capture of these Heroes was your objective all along. I will avoid any hasty conclusion however, and trust you acted in the best interests of the Empire. The Emperor has scheduled the next Triumvirat meeting to happen two days before the celebrations. Surely, you will then be able to explain us why so many of our people had to die in Esdham.

Until then, I have taken the liberty of placing the three imperial agents currently operating in Aqurean territory under my personal commandment. It is to say Colonel Deweg, Lieutenant-Colonel Jenni and Major Gibbs. I look forward to our next meeting.

Regards,

Admiral Matsya, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Armies

But as they read the letter, a voice interrupted them.

"There have been eighty this time, Kupo." The person looked up at the Moogle who had interrupted them, dressed in a lab coat as well and wearing glasses. "That's more than usual, isn't it?"

Behind the Moogle stood people in Crystal Stasis. But not just a few like there were in Aqures Ixen. No, there were hundreds of them, if not more. Among them were familiar faces and all those who had disappeared from Aqures Ixen in January. The place seemed to have for only purpose to store crystallized heroes, and a few soldiers could be seen bringing in a few more and organizing them. You, or rather the person you were in this dream, shook their head at the Moogle.

"There are always eighty--" The voice that came from your mouth was that of a woman. "But usually we have to share them with Aqures Ixen. Now that the link with the Crystal of Fire has been cut, the Crystal of Earth receives them all."

"I don't understand, Kupo. If we got those from Aqures Ixen too, why are they in Crystal Stasis?"

"The stasis is a defense mechanism. We can awaken them now, so this is no longer an issue."

"Defense mechanism? What for? I thought they were immortal?"

--

The scene faded and was soon replaced with another, in a nearly seamless transition. The Moogle was still there and held in his tiny hands a red crystal, identical to that of the Heroes of Light. He looked over a man laying in a bed before turning turning back to the woman through whom you were watching the scene unfold.

"Is this the specimen for today's experiment, Kupo?"

"It is. We shall proceed right away." Her hand extended and took the crystal from the Moogle, staring at it for a while. "And I believe it will answer your question. My precious hero of light..."

"... My question, Kupo?"

"..." The woman kept staring at the crystal for a while before nodding. "Yes, about their immortality. Among other things, it contains time."

"Time, Kupo?"

"Yes. This crystal contains more than I have the patience to explain you, but amongst these things, it contains time as well. His past, present and future. When we kill them, the crystals merely restore their bodies to an anterior state. To them, it looks like magic. No matter how badly wounded they were, they come back without a scratch. What else could it be but magic, to primitive minds?"

"But then, that does make them immortal, Kupo."

"Not quite. Now, what would happen if we were to destroy their crystal?"

"Kupo...?"

--

Once again the scene faded and was soon replaced with another, this time with the Moogle looking clearly uncomfortable, not to say scared. The red Crystal was now in some sort of intricate device and connected to a black crystal-- One of the crystal that had been stolen from the Magitek Research Facility months ago. The Moogle had his tiny hands on some sort of dial, but didn't turn it. There were also more people with lab coats now. Humans, Moogles and Tarutaru for the most part. None of them seemed half as distressed as the Moogle.

"What are you waiting for?"

The voice of the woman sounded calm and collected, but obviously she was annoyed at the Moogle's hesitance.

"If we do that... We're going to kill him... And then his world--" The Moogle shook his head. "I was told they'd always come back, Kupo. Why...?"

"Ah, so you think what we're doing is wrong? I suppose it is a valid opinion... But haven't you listened a word of my explanation? Death occurs when a living organism ceases functioning in a definitive manner at a point in time. For all intent and purposes, we are not going to kill him. As for his world..." A pause. "Proceed."

The Moogle looked down and hesitated.

"Am I to understand you volunteer yourself to explain to the Emperor why our research is being delayed? Or better, are you going to serve as a replacement for our specimen? Why, Moogles possess unique powers in relation with the crystals. Surely I could settle today on further results to consolidate my work on this."

"K-Kupo!" With that said, the Moogle turned back to the dial and switched it on.

"Good, good. I commend you for your logical reasoning."

"..."

A laser hit the read crystal. The crystal's color started changing. From red to blue, and soon it became black, with a blue hue surrounding the crystal, growing in intensity and brightness with every seconds. Then cracks started appearing. At first it was only a few cracks, but then they multiplied, soon covering the entirety of the crystal's surface. Then a noise of crystal shattering. You could feel an intense pain, nearly as if you had been killed yourself.

The dreams ends with your abrupt awakening.
