Christmas Party & Cheer

With Rukia's help they were able to find a large enough hall in Christmas Town to throw the party. Zelda had set it for this day since a group of brave heroes were going to set out on the 24th. She had made sure that everything was perfect and of course everyone was invited. There were at least six decorated trees with polished silver and gold ornaments hanging from their branches. Scarlet red ribbons decorated the trees and tables with large bows tying the streaming trails together.

There was one very large tree at the halls center and there were a few presents around the bottom for those who needed a place to put gifts. At it's top was a large pointed star.

Champagne and small finger snacks were set on the tables and a part of the room was cleared for those who wanted to dance. Zelda was even able to hire a few people to play Christmas songs throughout the night. There was a table dedicated to sweets with cookies, cakes, small pies and other wonderful treats spread out for people to try.

Among the decorations was mistletoe. This little plant hung above the doorways waiting for any pair who happens to be caught in their hold. Most of the mistletoe was thanks to Minako but Zelda might have put up one sprig at the entrance to the party; it's all in good fun and kisses on the hand or cheek are perfectly acceptable.

[Tear wasn't the only wallflower this evening. A handful of other Heroes were content to watch the crowd from the edge, including Mary.

But it isn't Mary who approaches Tear but instead a moogle with a smile on her face. She fishes around in her mail satchel and pulls out a candy cane in offering.]

[Gift exchanges are wonderful things, but some of the festive offerings aren't the sorts that go under the tree. While Kidd will be happy to find that bottle of whiskey later, it was a moogle who came to speak to Rukia at the couch.

Yes we are, kupo. She nearly stayed home but I insisted she come out here, kupo. She's worried about Ramza and what he's planning to do. She doesn't want him to get hurt.

I just wish I could go and help, kupo. But Mary says I'd be safer back here. I wish I could have helped when she tried to go after Artemicion too, kupo.

[Bonnie gives a little nod, fretting a moment longer. But then she shakes her head and looks around. She can't let herself be so sad and worried while everyone is here to have a good time.

She offers Zelda another smile.]

It's not just what you do as a Hero, kupo. Thank you for throwing all of these parties Miss Zelda. It's because of you all the Heroes have hope I think.

[ At first, the only answer he has for her is a reaffirming chuckle, as nothing else seems to come to the mind of the cadet, not when the hand in his grasp actively reminds him of the newfound closeness. Needless to say, it doesn't occur to him to withdraw from the contact unless she decides to take that step herself.

Initiative becomes such a curious concept when you find yourself this dependent on someone, all of a sudden. ]

I know. [ Even after a longer moment has passed, he still considers these words important enough to be uttered. Frankly, he would have preferred that to another evening of wallflowering which the party would undoubtedly end up bringing, but knowing that this might as well be one of their last chances to gather before the storm hits, he's decided to swallow the awkwardness if it meant seeing his friends once more.

That, and he has another motive. ]

Mimi smiled nervously, but her open mouth relaxed into a closed, gentle smile when Bonnie handed out the candy cane. She stared at the gift and nodded.

"S-sure, kupo." She held out her paw halfway to Bonnies, paused, then went the rest of the way to pick it up. "Thanks so much!" She held it tightly with both of her hands.

"It's great to have peace and quiet for once, isn't it?"

Yuri Lowell & Open - Mistletoe Shenanigans

[ The most Yuri had done today was put on a red Santa Hat to humor the children and maybe some of the workers. By the end of the day when the party started, he was pretty much lazing around sipping a drink with that hat still on. He let Repede do what he wanted and the dog trotted here and about bugging familiar faces, or spending time with the children.

Yuri just walked and stared at the mistletoe that was staggering right above him and raised a brow. Well, he heard the stupid stories about them, and he wasn't the type of man that was interested in these types of things to be honest, however, it's not to say that he's not interested in harassing or possibly trolling people he was familiar with. That is the nature of Yuri after all.

He's going to chill there for a moment a sip his alcohol yep. ]

[ ooc: this is for anyone who wants to awkwardly end up under the mistletoe with Yuri and maybe get something pretty embarrassing out of it! Be warned! ]

He smiled at her words, and lead her in the dance. It was a nice, solid waltz that he continued to work with. It was no way a ballroom dance, but something more folk-lore. He found himself smiling, as he moved to twirl Zelda.

[Someone's going to beat him to the trolling punch, because of all the places he decided to stand, Rukia doubts it's a coincidence. Honestly she's just glad he decided to show up to the party after all. Did her harassment pay off? Doubtful. Yuri can be social when he wants to be, right?]

Or were you just not aware of the traditions attached to that little plant?

[Rukia inclines her head in agreement, smiling. She's liked the little visitors who showed up at the office. They're actually at eye level with the tiny shinigami.]

[Rukia begins opening her present casually enough, a relaxed smile on her face. But as soon as she sees what she's holding in her hands, her expression goes from :) to 8O.]

[Her dark eyes dance with sheer wonder and delight.]

[IT IS SO CUTE. She's already hugging it like a sacred treasure as she stares up at Chiaki.]

[She considered getting Levy a book, but she's pretty sure that's what everyone else is going to get her. Besides, she's not sure which books Levy already has, so she wouldn't want to give her a second copy.]

[Meanwhile, she opens her gift, and grins widely. Research materials! Excellent.]

[She smiles calmly, taking another sip from her mug. She's accustomed to his quirks and dynamics by now, enough to find them endearing. ...Most of the time.]

[Rukia slants a playful grin at him, lightly tapping his arm with the back of her fingers.]

"Not at all." Ever observant and intuitive Sephiroth had noticed the drop in the tone that their conversation had started to bring about. In an attempt to keep something of a good spirit up, he raised his glass and saluted it down towards Ales before flashing a fleeting smile and taking a sip. Silver bangs dipped forwards and back to their rightful place with the motion, the color almost seemed to glisten with the twinkling lights behind it and above him.

"There has been a lot-" Sephiroth found he had to swallow again in the aftertaste of the whiskey that time, like the comment had made it stick in his throat some. He abruptly cleared his throat and then continued.

"-there is a lot that has happened, it's true. But I believe it's something of the spirit of this season to look forward at least with a measure of positive thinking."

[A Starlight celebration party is hardly the place to be pulling out a knife of any description, whether it be a gift or not and so Sephiroth takes care to put the lid back on the small box before approaching Rukia.

He raises the box in his grip slightly in response to her small nod of a greeting, before tilting his chin up to her in acknowledgment. A small gesture but it's clear what he's referring to at least.]

Sergeant. [He replies since she'd addressed him the same, but an informal smile is pulling at the corners of his mouth before long; it's nice to be gifted at all, but Rukia has clearly put some appropriate thought into it.]

I-

[Really? Was he really going to start by telling her that she needn't have bothered?]

[She doesn't see what's so odd about it. Honestly, she seems almost puzzled at his level of surprise.]

[Levy unwraps hers too, a bright smile spreading across her face when she sees the ink set inside.]

Oh, wow! Look at all the colors! Thank you, Rukia!

Yup. It's the main character from my favorite Christmas-themed video game, Batman Returns.

[It does take place on Christmas Eve, after all. Just like the movie.]

I thought something rabbit-themed would be good, since you're always drawing them on your letters and stuff. I still have the pattern, if you want me to paint them on your nails sometime.
