Christmas Party & Cheer

WHO: OPEN
WHEN: FORWARD DATED: December 22nd
WHERE: Christmas Town
WHAT: Celebrating the snow, the holidays, good cheery, warm fires and friends.
WARNING: Mistletoe?

With Rukia's help they were able to find a large enough hall in Christmas Town to throw the party. Zelda had set it for this day since a group of brave heroes were going to set out on the 24th. She had made sure that everything was perfect and of course everyone was invited. There were at least six decorated trees with polished silver and gold ornaments hanging from their branches. Scarlet red ribbons decorated the trees and tables with large bows tying the streaming trails together.

There was one very large tree at the halls center and there were a few presents around the bottom for those who needed a place to put gifts. At it's top was a large pointed star.

Champagne and small finger snacks were set on the tables and a part of the room was cleared for those who wanted to dance. Zelda was even able to hire a few people to play Christmas songs throughout the night. There was a table dedicated to sweets with cookies, cakes, small pies and other wonderful treats spread out for people to try.

Among the decorations was mistletoe. This little plant hung above the doorways waiting for any pair who happens to be caught in their hold. Most of the mistletoe was thanks to Minako but Zelda might have put up one sprig at the entrance to the party; it's all in good fun and kisses on the hand or cheek are perfectly acceptable.

[ooc: feel free to make open posts and tag around! It's a party!]

Conversely what little dry humor there might have been in Sephiroth's last comment has already dried up even further. There had been a trace of a grin as well but they never do seem to stick on the face of the all too-serious solider.

"We came in a couple of days ago, I've been too busy to have looked in before but it's certainly festive enough."

He's not too sure why Sparks would bring up the fights that happen, per local tradition, in Esdham as it's certainly not ever been Sephiroth's idea of fun. He tightens his grip around the small tumbler he's holding while thoughts race to figure out what might have been Sparks reason for coming over and trying to kindle some Christmas spirit in him.

"It's worthwhile to go and see, if only the once."

Idle conversation, if only to try and buy himself some more thinking time.

"Yeah. Maybe. I mean, the idea of guys dressed like Santa, of all things, knockin' each other's blocks off is kinda funny when ya picture it. But I decided to stick 'round here anyway and volunteer at the ice skatin' rink fer now. Ain't exciting, but it's here at home base."

Another small shrug. He figured he needed to help somehow, even if he has no idea how to ice skate, really.

"Oh, and I brought ice cream for everyone. Gelato, really. Gingerbread flavor. Y'know. Festive. 'S in the cooler in the kitchen. Pints got everyone's names on 'em, so look for yers." See, Sparks can get into the spirit. Just in his own way.

"It's like every event at the Coliseum. There is a measure of showmanship involved but the competitors really do go further for Noel. I heard from some of my comrades, once, that some guy had glued his beard on...nearly ripped all of the skin from his jaw..."

Talk about pulling the festive mood down to the floor and crushing it underfoot. Trust Sephiroth to take something cheery and immediately make it sound less such, by applying his signature splash of harsh reality every time. Honesty is a blunt creature.

Sephiroth gives Sparks an almost disbelieving look over when he mentions that he's brought ice cream for everyone. It seemed way off what he knew of the Marshal up to this point and only kept a layer of underlying tension in their conversation; wondering what exactly was Sparks' point. Maybe there wasn't one, and that bothered him even more.

"I'll try to remember for when we're headed back to the lodge."

Sparks wasn't a bad guy, after all. He wasn't enthusiastic about the holidays, but he wasn't a Grinch, either. Every Hero has a pint with their name on it, even ones he doesn't get along with. Not that he's expecting someone like Albel to take theirs home. More for Sparks, then.

He grimaces imaging how rough those Santa fights might get, but it does seem to damper his mood much. "Dang. Who knew a buncha guys dressed like Santa would get so into it. So much for holiday spirit, huh? Note to self: no attached beards if I give it a try."

"The reward, of course, makes it all worthwhile."

With a half-grin Sephiroth tilts his head and raises his glass a little to Sparks. At least attempting to encourage some of the involuntary tension he's feeling to go away. "'Tis the spirit of the season in Esdham, at least."

He's never been convinced of the function of a Coliseum like that in keeping the peace in the Republic, but at the very least it provides a suitable place for citizens to go and blow off steam. As a result, crime within the citizenry was lower; or perhaps that was down to the military stronghold overseeing them. Sephiroth supposed it was a combination of both.
