Intro Log || This Keeps Happening

Characters: All the "Heroes of Light" (only new characters can start threads).
Where: Aqures Ixen.
When: The 5th of January. The new Heroes of Light will awaken early in the morning.
Summary: The new Heroes of Light awaken in Aqures Ixen and are informed by their assigned Moogles of what the situation and what their destinies are. This a log for them to react to the situation, meet each other and be welcomed by the former batches of Heroes of Light.
Warning: Snow. Also some leftover decorations from Christmas.

Where you were or what you were doing— It does not really matter. Not any more. Within an instant, the world around you collapses. Reality twists and shatters... Or maybe you are the one who is collapsing and shattering away from reality as you knew it. No matter what the answer is, it will only take a few seconds for you to find yourself sinking into a void, your world vanishing into the distance. There is nothing but darkness as far as the eye can see. Even you feel different: all the powers you might once have had, are now gone. It is silent, cold and it feels as though life itself is slipping out of you.

At this moment, when it looks as though nothing but a never-ending void awaits you, a red Crystal forms before you. In this void, its warmth compels you to grab it. Upon doing so, you can hear a soft, soothing voice speaking:

"Wake up."

Soon, the void itself vanishes and is replaced by distant noises of engines. Had it all been nothing more than a dream? The soothing voice repeats its call one more time, but is soon replaced with a much less graceful "Wake up Kupo." Hand clutched on your Crystal, the call of the Moogle may finally wake you up. But you are no longer in your world, nor in the void. You are before the Crystal of Fire, in the third district of a city called Aqures Ixen. At this point, you may realize the engine noise actually originates from an Airship flying low over the city and headed to dock beneath the castle. As if it wasn't strange enough, your clothes have changed as well. They are now a reflection of the Jobs you are wielding. Last but not least, you are surrounded by Moogles, small and fluffy creatures who are more than happy to tell you about everything you want to know, about your 'destiny' as a Hero of Light, about what awaits you.

Or at least, they will tell you everything they do know, which isn't much in the end.

The only people around you are like you-- There are quite a few of them, all clothed in their Job garbs and most likely wondering what is happening. If somehow you do not realize it, the Moogle who woke you up will be more than happy to inform you there are others like you around. In fact, there are other Heroes who have arrived in the course of the past year and they will come soon! Like you, they have Jobs and a Crystal.

If asked, the Moogles will mention that the Heroes of Light - that is to say you - are fighting against time to save Crystallis from the Calamity that is about to awaken to devour the entire world. Sounds terrible? Welcome to Crystallis.

The Other Heroes
— Shortly Thereafter —

Thanks to the efficiency of Mognet, it does not take long for the other Heroes to come around: those who arrived in this world within the past year. You may have imagined heroic and charismatic figures when your Moogle told you that there were other Heroes of Light in this city. You may have imagined persons with fearsome powers when they told you about how they managed to push back the Empire and defeat gigantic beasts in the past. And more importantly, you may have imagined them as people who would have all the answers to your, doubtlessly, numerous questions.

If so, you may be up for a tragic disappointment. Still, for the most part they know more than you on the situation and may be more than happy to fill you in, especially if your Moogle didn't tell you much.

The City of Aqures Ixen
— Anytime —

With Christmas being barely over, there are still Christmas Decoration in the streets, and while the reconstruction are nearly over, there are still traces of the attack the Empire led against the city six months ago. A few buildings are being worked on.

And besides the decorations and reconstructions, there are a lot of things to do in the city for newcomers. A few groups of Triple Triad players are playing before Mognet Office in the ninth district, and a Blitzball Match is set to start at 20:00 in the stadium! Characters are also free to visit the city-- Mognet Office just behind the Triple Triad games is filled with Moogles, most of them discussing about the election for the future director of Mognet. They can also visit Airship Port in the twelfth district from where characters can board for free Airships from Shoopuf Airline.

Or maybe you could visit your new house in the 11th District, and get to know your new neighbors and housemate. Hopefully your neighbors are people you will get along with.

The Laboratory
— Anytime —

A location where a lot of Heroes of Light seem to be gathering is Palitutu's Laboratory. It is a place where employed characters can research into various topics. However, most importantly, characters can see a file with their name...

Should your character decide to go there and peek at their file, there are two possibilities. Either the file is corrupted and they cannot access it: too bad for them, but at least their life will remain a mystery. Or should you decide the file isn't corrupted, they will find a summary of their lives up to their canon point, as if written by a third-person omniscient narrator. On the column left to the text, to the top there is a portrait of them, and beneath it there is a 3D model of them. Said portrait and model can be switched to any year of their life. At the bottom there is a percentage, indicating 0%. On the right column, there are various links, most of which are grayed out. The clickable links lead to their Homeworld History and their future post-canon point history (corrupted file for unfinished canons).

At least, they can lock this file away if they don't want anyone to see it.

The Hospital
— Anytime —

Characters who have already been in Crystallis before do not wake up by the Crystal of Fire like everyone else. Instead, they will wake up in the Hospital of Aqures Ixen, in a room where there are over a hundred of other Heroes of Light like them-- Maybe even some familiar faces... Except they're all in Crystal Stasis.

A couple Moogles and a few nurses will be waiting by the room, and they will welcome all characters waking up. Upon exiting the room, they will also meet a lot of guards, and they all have for order to shoot anyone that comes out of this room without a Moogle. Hopefully you won't try running out without waiting for your Moogle. As for why the guards are so on edge, it might be a good idea to ask the other Heroes of Light about what happened a couple months ago.

Close Encounters of the Third(?) Kind
— 15:00 —

Characters venturing by between the city's outskirts and the Chocobo Farm at this specific time will be able to see a most peculiar sight: a flying saucer seemingly abducting a Chocobo before flying away and disappearing into the sky without leaving any traces of its presence. If your character do see it, hopefully there will be someone with them. Otherwise, nobody will believe their story.

Was it an UFO or just a hallucination? Previous sightings of such a thing have happened. It might be a good idea to investigate this sometimes...

"Yeah you've got that right." Zack shrugged and then clasped MarKus's hand in greeting. "Zack, Armored Rider Knuckle. I've got my belt here too, but it doesn't work."

"He'd need a custom job for that," said Moogla with a thoughtful statement. "And maybe some more training would be nice."

Sure. I'll be at the library most of the time, or you can send me a letter.

[Wow, that's quite a lot to take in. Pyrrha nods along with Tidus as he gives his explanation, though she does seem a bit puzzled when he starts talking about holding her breath. Still, if not even his moogle can get a word in edgewise, she isn't going to interrupt either. At least not until he's finished.]

...So, endurance training in the pool, then. That sounds reasonable. But what's that about being able to hold my breath? The blitzball players here are given special potions that let us breathe while we're on the field.
scriptrix: (sad)

He has a reason. Supposedly, if the Calamity is ever allowed to fully consume this world, it will be able to leave this world and consume all others afterward. So Garland's goal is to trap it here, I think. But there has to be a better way than that to deal with it.
line_piece: (explain)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, normal instruments would just break right away if you did that. But the one I have is a resonator guitar crafted and reinforced with orichalcum. It's one of the strongest metals in this world.
mindofathief: (Now hold on a moment)

[personal profile] mindofathief 2016-01-14 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
...Doesn't that pull the strings out of tune? There's a reason why we're careful when handling stringed instruments.
line_piece: (hmmmm)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I never actually tried it before. I'm just confident it wouldn't break the body of the instrument.
mindofathief: (...)

[personal profile] mindofathief 2016-01-14 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[How can someone so blatantly disregard the safety of their instrument? Duster picks up the nearest ocarina on the shelf and clutches it as if to protect it. He'd glad he has his Monk job to take care of the physical fighting instead of cracking this small instrument on a monster's head.]

I'm going with something smaller. My bass will only be for concerts. [How heavy would a reinforced orichalcum double bass even be? That would make moving it around go from "difficult" to "impossible".]
line_piece: (huh?)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hitting things with guitars makes total sense if you think about it from the perspective of a hardcore console gamer like Chiaki. It's far from the strangest weapon choice she's come across in an RPG.]

Smaller is good too. Honestly, if a Bard is trying to tank in combat, the other members of the party are probably doing something wrong anyway. It's much better as a support class.
mindofathief: ("Have faith in destiny" or something)

[personal profile] mindofathief 2016-01-14 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[It makes sense to her, but Duster's used to using frying pans and oversized staples with a few guns wielded by bad guys here and there. If he didn't play an instrument in the first place, it would be such a personal insult.]

Right, support. [He knows how to do that well.] I'm thinking that when everyone else is alright, I can help out with fighting. That way, I'm useful no matter the situation.
line_piece: (thinky)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey, frying pans are always an amazing weapon.]

That's a pretty balanced approach. What's your other Job?
mindofathief: (Default)

[personal profile] mindofathief 2016-01-14 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Monk. [He fiddles with the ocarina.] It's pretty close to how I fought back home, so I'm thankful for that.
line_piece: (thinky)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. You'll be low on defense, but Bard songs should help with that a little if you learn the right ones.
mindofathief: (calm)

[personal profile] mindofathief 2016-01-14 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be fine. [He can always depend on healers and HP restoring items.] Tamekichi told me that I can heal myself a little after a battle, so that should be enough for now.

[He blows into the ocarina to demonstrate. First by covering two holes, then three. He pulls back, pleased with his playing.] I'll just need practice.
line_piece: (smile)

[personal profile] line_piece 2016-01-14 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. That's a Bard skill you should learn pretty early on. Monks have a self-heal, too.

[Chiaki nods, smiling.]

Good luck.

Looking back, Cloud gave Erika a nod before snapping the reins. Comet ran off in a sprint, trying to make up the ground they'd lost in the chase. He was a good sprinter but his stamina wouldn't last long. Cloud scoured the treetops and the sky for any sign of where that strange craft went.

"Last time one of these showed up it was night...maybe we can find it this time."

"Night, huh? That would make sense..."

Looking around, Coffret peeked around her shoulder as Kuplo Kopp scanned the skies. "There's got to be some trace, a trail or something left over. Feathers maybe?"

"Beat Riders? Is that a group you were with where you came from? What did you do?" It was nice to hear someone who didn't seem to mind being called a Hero, or at least thought positively of the word.

Cloud nodded and was ahead of her on that. He was well familiar with Chocobos and how to track them at this point. Try as he might though he couldn't find any trace of the missing bird or the craft that had taken it.

"Damn...where did it go? It's too fast!"
neverfirstclass: (Huh?)

[personal profile] neverfirstclass 2016-01-14 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Cloud's eyebrow quirked at the strange creature names being bandied about. He'd never heard of monsters like those before. Rather, the images that came to mind didn't match anything he'd seen before. He didn't recognize all the things he was mentioning though.

And horses. Someone mentioning horses again.

"Weird. Why would they turn them into Chimeras? To make them into weapons or something?"

Tear spares a moment to throw Moogla an understanding smile, not ready to pin the blame on her after she'd seen her share of Heroes not even give their moogles the time of day. "You at least tried, that's what matters."

Turning back to Zack, the girl took the time to study him more closely and trying to determine just how much he might know. "You're already becoming familiar with how one of your jobs works, but would you happen to have another?"
idleskypirate: (I won't listen anyway)

Vaan had been wandering, a bit aimlessly, in the Ninth District with Montblanc in tow. He chewed absently on a candied apple he'd filched, Montblanc keeping silent this time about his thieving habits. Why lecture when Vaan was clearly depressed still about his friend's crystallization? But Vaan suddenly perked up, mid-bite, as he watched Yuna pull a blond young man that he was pretty sure he'd seen before to MogNet Central. Wasn't that the guy...?

The sky pirate followed along, silently for now, as he listened in on their chatter. It was Yuna's little joke that broke their silence, with Montblanc snorting. "You can say hand, kupo, we wouldn't be offended."

"Be nice, Mont." Well, that was certainly a switch, Vaan chastising his Moogle?

"Beat Riders are dancers, in Zawame City. We dance on stages for the public, and when there was trouble, a small group of us could transform into Armored Riders," explained Zack, digging into his pocket and pulling out his Walnut Lockseed.

"We use these to fight, Lockseeds, which would summon Arms to wear."

"He has the monk and dancer classes," put in Moogla helpfully. "Although these moves are way more skilled than any Dancer class would give out."

"It's because I'm already a dancer," said Zack helpfully. "I've danced for years now."
