Now that she had found him, he didn't want to leave her side any time soon. If he were being honest, though, he probably would have tagged along with her if she was busy. He was her Guardian. It wasn't an excuse, not at all.
He poked his head back in the locker room to yell a quick and mindless goodbye, ignoring whatever his teammates said, or just not paying attention in the first place.
