Alice is right on that, actually. As he's talking, she pulls out a small notebook and starts flipping through the pages.

"But the wound was in your chest..."

When he continues though, she nods.

"That makes sense. So what did you see?"

And, almost as an afterthought...

"And do you remember anything to do with ice?"

"The air grew cold just before it happened. That was one of the reasons I thought to turn around."

Since Alice was asking that, that could only mean there had been remnants of an ice attack left at the scene. He'd suspected as much, despite not having seen the attack itself well.

As for what he had seen... Jade paused, frowning as he tried to recall that split second the murderer had been within his field of vision.

"I can't be completely sure, but... I don't think they were human. Humanoid, yes, but something about them was... off."

Ales had been wandering the streets of the residential district, ready to jump at the next murder scene. Instead, he found Alice and Jade speaking. That's right. Jade was supposed to come back today. At least he didn't look worse for the wear.

"So someone not human who can use ice magic," he added from below. He didn't bother announcing himself while they were talking, and his voice came as a surprise. "As in someone that almost looks human, not...completely unhuman like I am."

There were only a few non-humans among them, but Tazendra and Johnny were fighters, not magic users. There was no reason for them to use a small knife wound to--

Oh.

"By any chance, did they have pointed ears?"
jadethenecromancer: (really.)

"Not magic. A Limit Break." Jade looked down at Ales, not too surprised to see the smaller scientist involved in the investigation. "Are you familiar with the sound that accompanies Limit Breaks? I heard it at the same time I noticed the cold. That was the other reason I realized they were behind me."

How many Heroes had ice-elemental Limit Breaks? Surely there couldn't be too many...

"Sorry. I barely had time to move at all, much less make a note of any specific features."

"...Huh. I haven't done one before, but I've heard them be used..." Then he was going down the wrong path after all. "But this means we'll have to ask what everyone's limit break looks like....we need to ask around."

Alice raises a curious eyebrow.

"A limit break? I thought those were only usable in really dire circumstances. Is there a way to just bring them out whenever you want?"

She's never used her own.

jadethenecromancer: (could it be?)

"Good question. I'm not aware of any other way to activate them." Jade's hand rose to his chin as mulled over that.

"I suppose the killer could have intentionally injured themselves to pull it off, but that would be a reckless way to go about it."

"If they'd injured themselves that badly, don't you think we'd have found evidence of that at the scene?"

She's not trying to be difficult, rather she's trying to visualize the scene. If the culprit were injured badly enough to use their limit break, she'd expect some of their blood to be at the scene too.
