I... didn't see who did it. [He keeps his voice quiet, too, but even with the hushed tone, there's just a hint of hesitation.]
no subject
...You didn't see, or you don't know?
[Because she's 100% certain she knows who did it now. And she doesn't want her brother to lie to her about it, but she waits to see what he says.]
no subject
I don't know anything for certain. I didn't see who did it. [That's the truth. Just, not all of it.]
Tell me what you've learned. Maybe we can figure it out together. [And maybe he'll be wrong.]
no subject
[She draws back, looking up into his face with an injured expression as she holds his hands. And then...in Morse code...she taps a name onto his palm with her thumbs.]
no subject
I...I don't know that yet. All I know is, it was a friend...and that's a pretty short list.
[In conjunction with the letter Jack had sent, and the evidence around the crime scene, it left little room for doubt.]

[Frustrated and hurt, Akane doesn't hold back her feelings. She stands fiercely in front of him now, hands tightly closed into fists.]
Stop lying to me! Stop hiding things! Didn't we talk about this in front of the boat? Why are you still treating me like a child?
[Akane gives her head a short, quick shake.]
I've always told you everything, even when it was uncomfortable. You can't tell me you would prefer it if I started keeping things from you just because 'I don't want you to worry' or 'I'm trying to protect you.' That's not how this works anymore. It can't work like that. The truth is too valuable, and if we try to bury what we know, it's only going to lead to more people getting hurt.
[Her lip trembles, because she fears what he's going to say. If he still continues to deny her, or push her away thinking it's for her own sake, it's going to break her heart.]
Someone is murdering Heroes, and they're using Heroes as their weapons. I'm going to find out who's responsible. Are we going to work together to seek the truth, or just...just hide ourselves away because we're too scared of the consequences?

...what if it was Junpei? Would you wanna jump the gun and throw his name into the investigation? We both know the police don't know what they fuck they're doing.
[He takes her hand in his.] You're a better person than I am, Akane. You actually wanna save the whole world. I only care about, like, a handful of people, tops, and screw everybody else. So I have to be sure, before I do anything. I gotta talk to him. You get that, right?
no subject
[Akane squeezes his hand tightly.]
It's not just going to be bad for you, it'll be bad for him too. I think... I think people might have been brainwashed into being sleeper agents. I don't know if they're being directly controlled, or if there's a certain trigger that causes them to act, but I don't believe he wanted to hurt you. I've seen him. There's no possible believable motive.
[She blinks down at the ground, then closes her eyes as pain starts to overtake her expression.]
I didn't want to bring Junpei into the Nonary Game either. But if we hadn't done it, you know he would have suffered consequences that were far worse. It's the same here. Someone is using your friend as a weapon, and as long as they can get to him, they'll keep using him. So we have to discover the truth. We have to find the one who needs to be punished, or it's just going to get worse for us, for those who are being used, and for the people who can't come back to life when they're killed.
no subject
We've gotta find the fucker who did this, Akane. And when we do, we make 'em pay.
no subject
[She looks delighted at the breakthrough. Then her other hand jerks up so she can put a finger on his mouth.]
But no more secrets, Aoi. If you do it again, I won't speak to you for a month.
[And from the stubborn set of her lip, it's pretty clear that she means it. She's tired of getting her feelings hurt. But now that that's out of the way, she grabs hold of his hand tightly and starts walking briskly down the street, tugging him along.]
Come with me. There's something I need to show you.
[Akane doesn't say anything else for the rest of the walk through the busy streets of Aqures Ixen, until they reach their destination: the laboratory. Akane pushes right through the doors, leading her brother inside until they come to her work station. She seats herself with ladylike grace before booting up her computer. She taps at the keys, navigating through files, until she opens up the listings of known Hero jobs. She scrolls through, then taps on 'Illusionist.']
Look at this one. When I was searching the Jobs, I was looking for advanced Jobs that made use of the ones I'm already trying to master. We've both got Illusionist. It leads to Psychic and Seer. But look what else it can lead to.
[There's a third job called 'Overlord' and Akane taps on it. It brings up the list of four skills, and Akane reads the pertinent one out loud.]
Corruption: Allows to influence the minds of those using dark power or negative emotions.
[She turns her head to look at Aoi.]
So I think it's completely possible that someone might be using that power. Don't you think so too? And Illusionists can be dangerous in their own right too. Those who have Crystals of Illusion can completely change the way reality is perceived, move objects, take on the appearance of other people, even teleport across the world in the blink of an eye.
[She sits back in her chair, holding her arms as she frowns uncomfortably.]
We need to find out if any of the accused murderers have any gaps in their memories. Then we'll know if we're dealing with someone who's using mind control, or just changing their own appearance to commit the murders and frame Heroes. Both are very real possibilities.
no subject
That's his life, isn't it?. He hovers behind her and reads the computer screen over her shoulder.]That's fucked up. Does anyone have that job right now? It'd have to be a Hero to have the combo.
[He's fine with kidnapping anyone who might be the culprit and Nonary Gaming them until the truth comes out. So completely fine with it.]
I'll...uh...I'll try to talk to Duster, see what he can tell me. [Even though Akane doesn't think he's the actual culprit, he still wants to keep the two from crossing paths until this is over. Aoi's only got two people to protect, but he doesn't know what he'd do if it came down to protecting them from each other.]
no subject
[She taps at the computer a little more to see if she can access that information.]
As long as we're still pointing fingers at each other, we're not going to get anywhere. I'm positive there's an outside force behind all of this.
[The computer beeps negatively, and Akane frowns.]
I just wish I knew where to look. I haven't been here long enough to really know everyone.
no subject
I still wanna look at that angle. Maybe we don't have all the puzzle pieces yet, but we can't afford not to examine all the clues we have.
[He sighs and turns away from the computer.]
Maybe we should get eyes on all those damn avatars. They've got weird abilities and half of 'em are pulling shit to get us to do what they want, from what I've heard.
no subject
[She sits back in her chair, tapping her chin.]
I think it's safe to say that the Heroes of Light themselves are being used as the murder weapons. I suppose it's possible someone with the Overlord job could be controlling them, so we'll keep anyone with that job set on the list. But as for the one who carried out your murder...
[Akane looks up at Santa, then shakes her head.]
I don't know him as well as you do, but it really doesn't seem to match his personality, and the motive seems really shaky. If he wanted to kill a lot of us, the slumber party would have been a good place to carry that out.
[She turns back to the computer, running a search query for Avatar information so she can study up on what they've got.]
Do we know the limits on what powers these Avatars have?
