[OPEN] 001
Who: Squall Leonhart + Open
Where: Hospital + Library
When: July 11
What: After a turbulent first few days, Squall goes to the hospital to check on a certain crystallized friend. Or you can find him studying at the library.
Warnings: TBA
[ Aqures Ixen: Hospital ]
[After his arrival, Squall had learned that Zell Dincht had been here too, although some time ago before him. Concerned and also curious about the state his friend was in, Squall had made his way through the city with the help of his moogle to the hospital.
He wanted to see this crystal stasis for himself.
After asking around and finally finding where Zell was being kept, Squall frowns deeply. There was Zell just as Selphie had said. He didn’t look like he was in any sort of pain but the crystal stasis was somewhat alarming. So this happened if they broke or lost their crystals.
Blizzara peeks out from his collar and made a small sympathetic whimper. He reaches up and rubs her ears.]
It’s alright, he looks fine. We’ll just have to check in once in awhile. And at least Selphie is okay.
[Anyone passing through could see Squall observing his friend. He might talk about it if approached correctly, he might not. He hasn’t seen Laguna yet.]
[ Aqures Ixen Third District: The Historical Center’s Library ]
[Squall finds himself here quite often the first few days, looking over books and reading whatever catches his eye. It makes him calm and his headaches go away and he’s able to shut out the noisy city just a little bit. It’s also a plus that this place is usually pretty abandoned for the most part.
Squall sits reading the History of Crystallis. It was better place to start learning about this place than anything. His moogle Blizzara lays napping on the table, her head propped up on some discarded books.]
...
[Squall might welcome other visitors for the right reasons, that being sharing information or other helpful conversations. Or bother him, dare you!]

[She seems hopeful until Squall speaks up, causing her to freeze in place with a small 'Eep!' Akane leans back, looking rather guilty when Squall rises from his seat. Noooo, he's going to think they're gossiping about him! ...And he's kind of right, but still, that wasn't what she intended!]
What? Oh no! No, we're just getting to know each other! Sorry! We can go outside if we're being too noisy!
[Akane points helpfully toward the door, as if to make sure he knows where 'outside' is. But of course he knows.]
sorry for such a late tag :(
And Blizzara starts to giggle. She presses a small kiss to Akane's cheek before she floats back over to Squall and sits on his shoulder.]
You don't need to leave, she's just...a bit of a handful sometimes.
[She patted his hair.]
Are you a new hero here or...?
[See Blizzara, he's trying.]
Pish posh, I've been running slow for a while now.
Um, yes! Sort of. I didn't arrive at the same time you guys did, but I did show up with the group that came two months prior. I'm still learning the ropes. Fighting monsters is pretty new to me.
[Is this what making friends is like? It's awesome!]
Are you settling in okay? You probably have all kinds of questions about this place. Maybe I can help!
<3
Yes. It feels strange not being able to fight them at the full capacity as I used to.
[At her offer to answer his questions Squall felt a little be wary and unsure. He didn't like having to ask questions or to have to collect information but it was a bit necessary in some cases. It felt strange to be offered so much help all the time.]
I've got some friends here who've been helping me so I don't have that many questions...
<3!
[Up until recently, she never got involved in a fight with anything, really. She looks at her hand curiously for a few moments, aware that she can do things now that she couldn't before. It's an odd feeling. Then she looks up at Squall again.]
Um...you wouldn't happen to have trained other people to fight where you came from...?
[She looks hopeful anyway.]
no subject
I've instructed before, yes.
[He wasn't an instructor but he had stepped in for Quistis and the others periodically. Public speaking and teaching students wasn't exactly his strong points.]
Are you looking for someone to train you?
no subject
Yes. I was never much of a fighter. We don't have tentacle monsters or magic or anything like this where I came from, so... I don't know. Coming here is almost like being dropped into the deep end.
[It doesn't help that her first quest was to sally forth and defeat twenty tonberries before facing off against a Tonberry King.]
I make a decent salary at the lab, so I can pay for lessons.
no subject
I guess that depends what kind of weapons you use and what you want to learn.
[He couldn't help if she has strange weapon choices, he was a very niche fighter.]
no subject
[Akane seems absolutely delighted, her violet eyes lighting up at the opportunity.]
Right now I'm just an Illusionist and a Time Mage, and I picked up the Summoner job in reserve. But if there's something in particular you think I should learn, I'm very willing to ask Cid.
...Hopefully I won't have to fight a horde of Tonberries again to get it, though.
no subject
Unfortunately I'm not a mage. I can help with swordsmanship, marksmanship, close range combat and physical defense but those types of jobs I can't help you with.
So unless you're looking to adopt Warrior or Magitek Knight, you'll need to find someone else.
no subject
[She knows the others aren't something she can learn with her current job set, but she's pretty sure defense is something universal, not to mention absolutely crucial to her continued state of being not dead.]
And I can sign up for one of those other jobs. It'll be something to switch to once I finish up what I have. Which one do you recommend?
no subject
I suppose... I could help with that.
[He wasn't sure how he would help someone with a mage type set up with too much physical defense but... He could teach her some skills if something got close...]
As far as the rest of your skill set goes, neither of my jobs compliment what you have unless you intend to take up Red Mage and Warrior for the upgrade to Wizard... Unless you really do want to try something completely different I would go with Warrior.
no subject
[She looks
adorablyoddly determined.]I know I'm not strong enough now, but I need to be. There are so many people I need to protect, so I can't take this lightly or wait for someone else to do it for me.
[Akane squares her shoulders, taking a deep breath.]
Is Magitek Knight what you have right now?
no subject
adorableoddly determined. He gives her a slight nod.]If that's what you want to do. Fine. I'll teach you.
[So many people here were full of brightly colored optimism and glaringly bright attitudes Squall wasn't sure how he was going to survive. Why did people have to be so... animated.]
I'm a Magitek Knight right now, yes. Warrior as well. I'm fairly new here so that's all I've got equipped right now. I intend to upgrade to Mecha Pilot eventually.
no subject
[Her eyes are as big as dinner plates as she leans forward over the table with a gasp. Wait wait wait, the name might mean something different than what she's used to. She'd better make sure they've got the same thing in mind.]
You're talking about piloting giant robots? As big as buildings?
[If the Magitek Knight job leads to something that incredible, then he'd better believe she's going to hustle over to the castle and slap down her job request immediately.]
no subject
...If you put it that way....yes. Robots. ...but not as big as buildings.
[That would be ridiculous, Akane. He's just a big nerd who likes gunblades and magitek, of course upgrading to robots was the logical thing to do. But robots the size of buildings? Not logical. Or even remotely realistic.]
no subject
I guess that's a good thing. They always seemed really hard to climb into otherwise.
[She tips her cheek into her hand, considering.]
All right, I'll go to the castle and request that job. Once I can start practicing with it, I'll make sure to let you know.
no subject
You're actually changing to Magitek Knight then? Just because of the robots?
[A moment later he lets out a small sigh. She really was serious about this, wasn't she? As long a she didn't come running to him bugging him to fix her magitek gear for her all the time it would be okay...It was her choice after all and none of his business in the end.]
...
no subject
[She waves her hands slightly.]
I intend to finish what I started, so I'm going to master the jobs I have right now. After that I'll be working on my Summoner job, so I'll have an extra space. I'd rather take on a job I know someone else can teach me, so I can be better at it.
[Then she lowers her hands with a little grin.]
But if it's a choice between Warrior and Magitek Knight, I'd rather have the one that involves robots AND swords. Warriors just have swords. My skills will be more diverse that way.
no subject
Sounds like a plan then.
[With that Squall retrieves his books and nods to her, intending to leave soon.]
So we'll start with defense and when you're ready I'll teach you more about Magitek and gunblades. Did you want to set up some sort of timeframe for this?
no subject
[She looks excited, hands pulled into small fists as she gives a single firm nod.]
I work at the lab in the morning and afternoon, but I'm usually available in the evening and on weekends. But if that doesn't work, I can ask for a different shift schedule. Whatever's easiest for you! I can't wait to get started!
no subject
[He finishes gathering his things and gives her a small goodbye nod. As he leaves, Blizzara turns to wave at her happily from his shoulder.]
no subject
[She waves after Blizzara, rising briefly onto the balls of her feet before rocking back down to her heels after he's gone. She huffs a happy little sigh, tucking some of her hair behind her ear as she sits back down and picks up her book again. That went a lot better than usual! Maybe it won't be quite as hard making friends here as she thought.]
