Most people went for a walk during their mid-day breaks. They drank coffee, talked with their co-workers, or a rare few would ask their research partners to wake them in ten minutes exactly while they 'rested their eyes.'
Akane tried to hack her own file.
While she could see most of what she already knew...the events in Building Q, the construction of Rhizome 9 on the moon...there still remained a big chunk of missing history in between. She couldn't tell if the data had been encrypted or just damaged, but it was frustrating trying to puzzle it out. She'd hoped to do so before going up against her Calamity self so she might have at least some hint about what she'd see.
So far, all she knew was that it wouldn't be pretty. People who faced a lot of trauma and stress in their lives were more likely than others to repress things out of a sheer need to make it through their everyday lives. She'd burned to death when she was twelve, witnessed the gruesome murders of several men, and even multiple deaths of her childhood sweetheart and her own brother. There was probably something nasty lurking in the back of her mind that she'd sealed away for the sake of her own sanity, and she wasn't keen to let it out.
"But I have to," she told herself, leaning away from the screen as she rubbed her fingers over her eyes. If there was one thing that Akane was good at, it was the relentless, unflinching pursuit of her goals. What needed to be done would be done, and that was the end of it.
Her little bunny-shaped timer giggled, signifying that her break was up. With a sigh she closed her file and locked it. No one else needed to know what she'd been through, what she'd done, or what she was capable of doing. It didn't matter here.
Scooping up the files she'd gathered detailing the physiology of the Mysidian monsters, she cradled them in her arms before picking up the very slim folder that had information about the Crystal versions. The more brutal and lethal nature of these creatures meant that data was hard to come by, on account of any would-be researchers getting eaten or killed in some horrible fashion. She brought them to Jade's office, knocking politely on his door. "Dr. Curtiss, I have the files on the Crystallis fauna," she called out, not wanting to barge right in lest she interrupt any important thought processes he had going.
