A Life in Shadows - The Fantasy Continues

Characters: Cloud Strife and OPEN
Where: The laboratory where they face their Shadows
When: November 29th
Summary: Cloud has been watching others take on their Shadows, and now he feels like he's ready take on his own.
Warnings: Combat is very likely but it will be kept brief

If Cloud was honest with himself, the reason he'd decided to finally take on his Shadow had slipped. He had been going on up to this point about wanting to face his Shadow for himself, not because Kalki or the Sage told him to. And nobody would blame him if he said his delay was on those grounds. After all they were two highly suspect sources.

But the day he decided to take on his Shadow the thought in his mind was, 'I should take care of this now so I don't have to worry about it when I'm helping with Santa's village'. That should have been a clue, a warning. One he was too blinded by himself to notice.

He had the decency to let others know, let his friends know that he was doing this. He'd been pulling guard duty and exhausting himself to a point after the first couple of Heroes who tried to bum rush this attempted to do so without their friends or even any support at all on hand. He wouldn't make that mistake. And with his friends at his back he shot them a nod of confidence when Mako asked if he was ready. He nodded, handing his materia shaped crystal into his moogle's care.

He braced himself as he stepped back and the machine kicked into gear. He'd been trying to anticipate what he'd encounter. What he'd be told. What it might tell the others. He was sure that they wouldn't misunderstand the Shadow's rants and exaggerations. He knew everyone knew his mind. Perhaps even better than he did, but that was the point of this, right?

In the blink of an eye the Shadow appeared before them. It was clad in the ShinRa grunt uniform, just as Cloud had himself to prepare for this, favoring the custom armor that Levy made for him. It even had a copy of Cloud's gunblade at its hip. Cloud tensed, ready for what may come...but nothing did. It simply remained seated and slumped on the floor. Lifeless.

Cloud wasn't sure what to do with this. He looked back at the others for their thoughts.
