The energy spent on his previous attacks is beginning to weigh on Ramza, but it is far to early in the battle to allow himself to falter. He retrieves one of the Hi-Ethers he brought back from Ivalice and smashes it in his face drinks it, replenishing some of the energy he had lost. He raises Excalibur into an attack position and changes at Percival to deliver a physical attack on the White Mage. The act is callous, but strategically sound.
