The Most Wonderful Party of the Year

[It's the 23rd of December, and, as promised, Kuppa Cupo has opened its doors for the first (and hopefully not last) Christmas/Starlight party!]

[The entire restaurant is decorated for the season, complete with a large tree near the entrance. The ceiling is covered in lights, and the tables all have matching red and green tablecloths. Near the wall, the catering table is packed with food.]

[Even the helper moogles are taking part in the festivities, with many of them wearing elf or santa costumes. Whether you came early to help set up, or arrived fashionably late, enjoy!]

[Barely noticeable around the edge of his face, between silver bangs, the end of Sephiroth's eyebrow curls up in response to her query. Initially he's not sure what she means but given a few more seconds the words sink in and he's had chance to turn them around in his thoughts for a beat.]

You mean...like a mission where the objectives change or adapt? Sometimes.

[Applying that to their current circumstances though...]

It bothers me that a mission, if you will, that is so large-scale as the one we're engaged in doesn't have much more than an obscure heading, at this point. I guess.

[Don't expect her to smile at his sarcasm, though, she's steadfastly ignoring the little jab.]

You were one of the first to respond to my call for aid in Trano Golsaucia, even though you didn't seem to think much of me personally at the time. That is worthy of praise indeed.

[Even so, she waits until they're back in the kitchens before setting down her empty tray and turning to face him directly.]

If I might be so bold, what kind 'stuff' do you mean?

[It's a question that Rukia takes seriously. She contemplates the placement of the medal for a long moment, sipping at her eggnog. A few moments later, she sticks out her arm, thumb jutting upward in approval.]

I wasn't sure if using a silver medal would work best for your coloring, but it seems to complement you nicely.

[And she's absolutely delighted to see him don it without question. Whether he's merely humoring her or genuinely pleased, it seems to matter little. She's happy, and nodding to herself to acknowledge her excellent taste in gifts.]

I considered purchasing a book for your collection, but there didn't seem to be many you lacked in your personal collection.

[It might explain why she'd been paying so much attention to his bookshelves in previous visits as she'd tried to memorize what he already had. Certainly she could have bought him a book that she enjoyed reading, but presenting him with such a novel might result in him actually reading passages aloud at the party.]

[He could wait to find that extra present waiting for him on the kitchen counter, thanks to Moogle delivery services.]

You approve of the medal, then?

Not everyone thinks the way you do, Princess. There are some nasty aristocrats out there who only view their people as stepping stones for their wealth. It's a good thing that you aren't that type.

[ He meant every word of it as he shifted his movements. Even if he was sarcastic about it, there was some sincerity in his tone. All wasn't completely lost. ]

First impressions are everything aren't they princess? Can't say I wasn't a little jaded, considering what I've dealt with.

[ He shrugged. ]

You're better off not knowing.

[She sighs, resting her hands upon the countertop.]

But I hope you won't allow your previous experiences to reflect poorly on all aristocrats. My father, and the emperor of Malkuth, both care very deeply for the welfare of their people. Therefor I strive to emulate their level of service and care.

[As for his last remark, she settles her hands on her hips and tosses her head.]

Please. You can't seriously believe that. If you don't wish to talk about it then say so, but don't speak to me as if I'm too fragile to handle the truth.

That's exactly my point.

[ He replied setting a couple of trays near her on the counter top that she rested her hands on. If she's going to help out, he's going to make sure she will do just as much work as he is if not more-- but he's sort of a bully sometimes. ]

That I can't promise, but I can guarantee that I'll have a different opinion once I get to know them. Can't say I can easily just assume that most aristocrats are kind people, when I've dealt with the lather.

[ He shrugged. ]

I do. Whether you want to believe what I have to say or not, doesn't really matter to me. You're right, I'd rather not talk about. Frankly, it's not something I'd go around spilling.
