The Most Wonderful Party of the Year

Who: Anyone and everyone!
Where: Cuppa Kupo
When: December 23rd
Summary: It's time for Cuppa Kupo's first annual Christmas Party! The party details are in an OOC post here and an IC post .
Warnings: None! (At the moment, anyway).

[It's the 23rd of December, and, as promised, Kuppa Cupo has opened its doors for the first (and hopefully not last) Christmas/Starlight party!]

[The entire restaurant is decorated for the season, complete with a large tree near the entrance. The ceiling is covered in lights, and the tables all have matching red and green tablecloths. Near the wall, the catering table is packed with food.]

[Even the helper moogles are taking part in the festivities, with many of them wearing elf or santa costumes. Whether you came early to help set up, or arrived fashionably late, enjoy!]

S-Sorry!!

[ Mikleo quickly rolls away as he heard the yelp. It's convenient to have someone cushion his fall but Mikleo felt bad about getting them possibly hurt. He pulled himself up to his feet before extending a hand to her. ]

I slipped on the ladder by mistake. I hope you're alright. I'm fine.

It's fer everybody. You're part of everybody.

[And hey, it's pretty good chili, so that's something.]

'N it's nothin'. I know it ain't, like, a real Christmas gift or anythin', but I'm not great at picking out gifts anyway.

[It didn't seem like he was struggling at all until K'pandolu got a little closer.

It seems Sephiroth had gotten himself into a tiny bit of a predicament; that is, he seems to be a pin short and just so happened to look over his shoulder as she asked. If he moves, it's likely that the whole train he's just spent time getting up might fall again, and along with the stretched-way he's reaching, it's all a bit of a balancing act currently.

There is a small pot of flat-headed pins set on the adjacent table, as only a fool would have put it on the table that they would then be climbing on.]

Hm, yes. Could you?

[He can't quite see the pot of pins from where he's standing but hopefully it's not too much of a puzzle.]

[It's hard to tell if the sparkle in everyone's eyes at this time of year is that festive cheer or just glitter or sparkling tinsel being reflected into them. Or it could be the typically frigid temperatures in the region, even. There is a certain smile though, that doesn't come about at any other time of year.

Unfortunately it's not so infectious so as to have spread to the silver-haired hero.]

Well- [Sephiroth casts a glance behind Mikleo and up over the ceiling spreading out over the rest of the room. Sharply examining the work he's spent a good deal of time already helping to put up so it would stay up. It's very festive, with greens reds and golds...yet he's hardly the judge to call if anything would be missing.]

-you don't think it needs something to...break it up a little?

[Selphie knows a forced smile when she sees one. Even if it may be for her sake, she knows that crossed a line that she shouldn't have. Her face fell downward as she didn't bother to hide the regret she felt at her words. She said she'd be more honest with herself and with others and this was as good a place to start as any other.

She keeps her voice soft and loud enough for only him to hear.]

Sephiroth? I didn't know Terra very well and I don't know you very well either but I know that I've crossed a line that I didn't mean to. I'm hoping you'll forgive me but lemme say something about Terra.

[Selphie placed her left hand on her heart and looked up at the taller man with a somber look on her face.]

She's not really gone. As long as you don't forget about her or what she meant to you then she'll always be in your heart, okay?

[Selphie's still a kid to most of the people that she's met in Crystallis but talking about what happened in her world was not one of the things that she liked to talk about. She doesn't want to talk about the fact that she had to fight the woman who raised her. She doesn't want to talk about being an orphan again and she definitely doesn't want to talk about Time Compression. For all she knew, they hadn't won the final battle at all and that was unnerving thought that didn't need discussing at a Starlight Party.

She forces a smile that doesn't go up to her eyes but she's hoping that Duster won't pick up on the notion that she's faking it right then and there.]

We ended the war and it's about the stuff that most wars are about. Everybody was okay in the end.

[Her tone is soft and serious and layered with a thick tone of finality. This isn't the time or the place to talk about stupid wars that she may or may not have helped to start.]

[At the same time, Sephiroth has already spent way too much time having his thoughts linger over the loss of one who had become unprecedentedly integral to his life on Crystallis. To begin with he'd taken on anything to keep himself distracted but complete desensitization to that particular pain takes time.

In reaction to Selphie's comments, Sephiroth finds the sides of his face softening despite his every attempt to maintain his hardened facade. It stirs sadness, but moreover the kind words are more of a salve than they had been months ago.

He smiles smally, then nods shallowly to her.]

I don't think I'll ever forget, so long as I remain of myself here. She was...

[He covers a break to his voice with a small sip of the steaming tea.]

...I don't think I'll ever meet anyone quite like her.

[well I mean

she's had worse

but that doesn't mean it's fun.

She reaches out to take his hand, using it to help herself up.]

That's good to here. [she checks herself over for a moment, and nods] I'm fine as well. Did you need any help with the ladder, then?

[so she's heard, and she nods.]

Earth is- another planet, isn't it? How far away is it?

No… [well. she doesn't want to be, honestly, and she takes another spoonful before speaking again.] Nowhere's ever quite the same as home, right?

From Mars? Right next door. In a manner 'a speaking, I guess.

Mars is still relatively new to bein' colonized, so it don't bare much resemblance to Earth. [Unless you look to the American west around 1200 years before Sparks's time, but his history isn't that good.]

I didn't like this planet when I first got here. Then... I thought it was okay. I got used to it. Now I think it's crummy again. But, y'know, we're tryin' to un-crummafy it, maybe it'll work out. Still needs more lasers and AI though.

[Ugh. It's being part of 'everybody' that's difficult.]

It's not bad.

[He'll take another bite, even! What a rare treat. At least it's not sweet.]

I haven't given a gift to anyone in a long time. Maybe I should've brought some fish or something.

If you have the right Job on, who knows? You could probably do it, too.

[Though whether or not there's a job for standing knee or waist deep in freezing water, well.]

You'd have to be careful not to freeze. And you'd need to take it seriously. I don't just do it because I love splashing in the water or something like that.

[An innocent swish of his tail. He loves splashing in the water, it's exactly how he discovered this fun way to catch fish.]

[There's the briefest starting of a pout as Selphie crosses her arms and taps her foot a little bit as she peers over at the ladder in the background. It didn't look like a ladder that was supposed to used inside but rather one that was meant for outdoor work.

She frowns a little bit before sighing.]

Y'know... a step ladder would've been sturdier and I'm pretty sure we have one in the back.

[If she could cast a spell to scan the water seraph for injuries, she'd be a little more relieved but she'll take him at his word.]

Lemme help you with the rest. How many do you have left?

[She shrugs her shoulders in response to who would pick on Selphie about her being a clumsy little thing in the end.]

As for who would do such a thing it's someone who seems to have taken the big brother role to heart in recent months. It's okay. If he gets out of line, I'll kick his butt.

[Or she'd try to anyway.]

Somethin' tells me that's actually praise out of a guy like you. [He knows. He's the same way.]

Ya might wanna get on givin' some out, if there's anyone here you think needs one. Our time here might be gettin' thin. [Really he should be taking his own advice.]

Heh. You're not wrong.

[And that gets a little smirk out of him. See? He knows he's a difficult piece of shit. It's kind of funny.

The next comment is more sobering, however.]

Do you really think this place can be saved? You've been here longer than I have.

So- very close. [that's… probably a decent way of putting it, really.]

Is that so? Which means… different crops, and different foods? What else?

Mm. [she nods, ears flicking for a moment.] There's been enough similarities that I've thought, sometimes… maybe it's not so different. Maybe it could be all right… But it's not the same, and… there's a lot I left behind. [she makes a bit of a face.] Do you think so?

[Somehow, Jade managed to make himself both useful and actually quite useless during the preparations. Oh, he was around, helping keep things organized... but as for any heavy-lifting? That sort of thing was better left to the youngsters. These old bones just couldn't handle the cold weather.

Miraculously, as soon as the party starts he's suddenly feeling quite spry again and engaging cheerfully with anyone who comes to him for a chat. Not in a Santa costume though (which is probably fortunate for everyone involved) but in something a little more formal. He rarely finds the occasion to dress up these days.]

[ Yuri wasn't going to give her anything that she'd make a mess out of herself on. The second thing was having a dangerous weapon like that could be stolen at any given time by some lunatic. Not all the Heroes of Light here were sane to be honest. He wasn't going to take that risk, unfortunately. ]

Berry it is.

[ He hands her the pretty looking glass with cider in them. If she looked close enough, there were small dices and spheres of fruit that he managed to carve out when he was making them. At the edge of the cup was a cutely decorated strawberry surrounded by blueberries, creating an almost pleasing aesthetic. ]

It's not a bit deal to be honest. I volunteered to do the work. No one forced me. Thanks for the concern though.

I'm not the party type of guy so it doesn't bother me if I keep going.

[ He replied to her honestly as she suggested. She really did seem to have been raised well despite her random outbursts but it was the surprising things about Rukia that was fun to him. ]

He's got candy canes in a bag on his back. He's making his rounds. I'm sure you'll find him. He has the Santa Hat on and I managed to get him to behave with the fake beard.

[ He chuckled. ]

Yeah, well you still look pretty dressed up.

[ He repeated. It doesn't change his opinions about her at all. In fact, he rather finds it typical of her to look formal at given events like this. Yuri chuckled at her statement. ]

Anise would throw a fit if I didn't look presentable for her cafe's event. I promised to look decent in lieu of not putting on a Santa Suit. Repede got it instead.

[ He shrugged before she started sweeping them up. He grabbed a few more and started to walk. ]

This way and thanks.

[ Maybe it's just both? Who really knows in the end but it's not wrong to feel like they are because everyone is in better spirits. Mikleo would like to think about like that to be honest. However, there were always other varying factors as well.

That's too bad but Sephiroth does seem like a very serious individual from what Mikleo has seen. Of course getting to know the other would probably change that view he had at the moment. ]

Perhaps. The colors definitely fit well together but breaking it up a bit will make it seem less busy...?

[ Whether she's experienced in a situation worse than this didn't mean that it wasn't bad. Mikleo felt terrible for falling on her like that. ]

Uh-- Yeah, that might be a good idea. It's not as stable sometimes but it's higher than the step ladder.

[ He nods. ]

Thanks.

[ He was testing it really to see if it would work well in here, but it didn't seem that way. Unfortunately, it was tall and that was what he was looking for. Somehow it didn't work in his favor but his experiments at least provided results. ]

I didn't see any that were as long as this one but you're right it's not made to be used inside.

[ He goes right into speculating about it all instead. ]

A handful so it's not too bad but alright.

I see. Perhaps he's just concerned abut your well being is all?

[ He kept the other comment about her being violent to himself since he'd rather not get kicked. All his female friends were quite violent. ]

You could try borrowing someone's shoulders, but that might not be much steadier.

[she smiles, ears lifting.]

You're welcome. I'll just need to hold it steady, yes?

Sometimes...less is more?

[He's tilted his head up and back in the meantime, inspecting the work he's already spent a good hour or so putting into. It's probably all fine, all as perfect as it needs to be but there will forever be that small voice of doubt at the back of the mind of any such perfectionist.

Sephiroth looks back at Mikleo at his suggestion. Tilting his head ever so slightly to one side, one of his bangs falling in that direction along with the posture shift. Maybe Mikleo had an idea what he was thinking-?]

But maybe it needs to be...?
