The Most Wonderful Party of the Year

Who: Anyone and everyone!
Where: Cuppa Kupo
When: December 23rd
Summary: It's time for Cuppa Kupo's first annual Christmas Party! The party details are in an OOC post here and an IC post .
Warnings: None! (At the moment, anyway).

[It's the 23rd of December, and, as promised, Kuppa Cupo has opened its doors for the first (and hopefully not last) Christmas/Starlight party!]

[The entire restaurant is decorated for the season, complete with a large tree near the entrance. The ceiling is covered in lights, and the tables all have matching red and green tablecloths. Near the wall, the catering table is packed with food.]

[Even the helper moogles are taking part in the festivities, with many of them wearing elf or santa costumes. Whether you came early to help set up, or arrived fashionably late, enjoy!]

[As one who has been hanging around since set-up even though he probably had a tonne of other things he needed to get on with outside in the real world, Jade's choice of formal attire makes Sephiroth's hastily-ironed with-no-tie light-gray shirt seem almost dirty in comparison. At least he's left the top-button undone so it doesn't look too odd.

To be true he hadn't been counting on sticking around, but like Jade he's put his effort in and now feels obligated to at least keep the buffet table re-stocked if it needs to be - he was here when people had arrived with the various foods and knew exactly what was available in the back, after all.]

...still here as well?

[He's coming over with a new tray of small minced-fruit pies for the nearby table, balanced up and on one hand so that there is no way anyone would be able to knock them.]

[She wasn't very convincing. Lucas did his best to put on a brave face despite losing his mother and brother, especially sine his father rarely came home after the tragedy. He had to survives despite the other villagers keeping their distance from him. There is a clear difference between a smile caused by happiness and a smile to cause happiness.

"Everyone was okay in the end."

He hopes so.

The concerned look on his face doesn't go away.]

...Do you want to try out the snack table? We can sneak some things from there before the party starts.

[Sparks starts to say something, but stops, sighing lightly. Normally his ego is too big to admit defeat, but Crystallis has worn on him. He's tired.]

I think there's a chance. Not a good one, but I think we can do somethin' if we can manage to work together fer once.

[Cloud blinks at her comment, looking sad for a moment. He expected this, and he feels a bit guilty himself for making her feel put out. It's not what he intended, and it's actually something he thought about himself recently.]

Need? Mmmm, I wouldn't say that.

[He looks around the room, at all the people gathered and the festive decorations put up. There's a warm joy in this place that's been so fleeting for the Heroes as of late.]

Can I tell you a secret?

[Cloud's voice catches in his throat at Selphie's second wish. He knows full well it's not in his power to grant. Thankfully Mileo's appearance rants him a moment to collect himself.]

It's no problem. I'm happy to be here. And Selphie, I'm sorry, you know I'd do that if I could. I'm glad you two are here though.

But Mikleo is right, I'm a little concerned about who would be at the receiving end of your rockets. Even if they are an enemy.

Different landscape, different weather, different natives... It's kinda like a desert on Earth, but all over instead of just one part.

[He nods at that.] Yeah, me too. Everyone else I'm sure, too. I mean, if I had to stay, I guess I could deal with it at this point. It's been two and a half years now. But I still really, really wanna get back to my job.

[Sure. Just his job.]

It sounds a little like Thanalan, then. [she lifts her chin, looking interested.] What kind of people are the natives?

Mm… I'd say the same, given enough time. [she shakes her head, though.

At that, she tilts her head, eyebrow raised.]

Just the job? I'd think you'd be glad to see friends and family again as well, yes?

Oh, there you are!

[Jade seems to appear at her side out of nowhere, bending over slightly with a new glass of eggnog to replace her empty one -- with the correct amount of whipped cream, naturally. She's part of the reason why he decided to put some effort into dressing up for the occasion in the first place, so of course he's putting on his most charming smile for her as well.]

You look positively captivating tonight.♥

[He looks tired. Then again, Dylas has seen him at work. He knows Sparks is about as lively as a rock sometimes.]

I guess we can't just punch something until it stops. What a pain in the ass.

Ah, Jade! I'm glad you made it.

[She cheerfully accepts the eggnog replacement with thanks, pleased at the thoughtful gesture.]

You look stately and handsome yourself. I don't know if it's even possible for you to appear less than elegant.

[Except for that one night, but that hardly counts.]

I'm glad you were able to make it. It was difficult not to give this to you early. One moment...

[Rukia holds up a finger before ducking away, making her path toward the tree where she stashed all of her presents. It's not like her dress has any convenient pockets. It doesn't take her long to return with a velvet cube, bearing a striking resemblance to a jewelry box. Because that's what it is. What's inside, however, is not jewelry. It's a shiny new medal with a blue ribbon woven into it, a gift he may have innocently and accidentally commissioned. And she's so very proud of the results.]

Do you like it?

Yeah. Why can't that always be the solution to problem? It's so much easier when it is.

[Looks like they have at least something in common.]

Yeah. [His tone immediately sounds a bit more pleased.] That's how I'm used to doing things, anyways.

[If he didn't sound like a thug before, he sure does now. He even comes with a murder rap!]

Do you ever...need help with punching things?

I mean, sometimes? Like in what capacity? As a Hero or as a lawman?

[He doesn't know about you being cut out for the law, Dylas.]

I dunno. [He shrugs.] As me, I guess. You know more about what's going on this place a hell of a lot more than I do.

[very fancy indeed!

It'd be a shame for no one to recognise his efforts- K'pandolu certainly thinks the sashimi tastes good, at least. She wanders over mostly just to talk to him, and bring a delivery, rather than any suspicions though.]

Oh- thank you! Before that, though- here.

[she holds out the scarf and bag of cookies she'd wrapped for him, offering a smile.]

[Selphie pulled a small bag of treats from a handily hidden pocket with a knowing smile. She reaches out to pat Duster on the arm as she continues setting the tables with practiced movements.]

I've got it covered. The main cook at the cafe knows I tend to sneak treats out of the kitchen so I was given this bag of sweets before I could get my hands on anything else. He tends to get annoyed if you sneak things out so I'd sneak at your own risk.

Offer to test out his new creations however and you'll get all you can eat!

[She really is okay, Duster. She doesn't know you very well. She gives everyone she meets for the first time a guarded smile.]

[Selphie can wish even if she knows it's impossible. She nods slightly before she gives both Cloud and Mikleo a slightly sour look before sighing in resignation.]

Well, it was worth a shot. On both counts but thanks for humouring me.

But still, you two are no fun and now we have to have extra fun because of it. Let's get these table cloths out and then we can help Cloud unload his bag of tricks.

[Selphie's all for healthy hypothesis exploration but not when people can get seriously hurt. She shakes her head a bit before tapping her chin thoughtfully.]

So we find a bigger step ladder than the one we currently have. Or maybe we need an extendable hook of some sort? Man, now you've got me wanting to find out.

In the meantime... [Selphie scoops up the remaining wreaths and hands one to Mikleo.]

Hmmmm... more than likely. It's not a bad thing. Sorry for always being a pain in the butt.

[If any such comments come up, Selphie will be extra careful to extra non-violent when she shoves a certain water seraph out into the closest snowbank then. :D]

Maybe not but...

[She stretches her arms out wide and waves them in the direction of all of the people who had come out to the party.]

It doesn't mean that you can't meet other people. A strong sense of duty is good and all but you've gotta remember to have a little fun every now again.

[She points up at him with a cheeky grin.]

Holding up the wall can't be all that fun so it doesn't count.

[Selphie eyes the berries on the sides of the glass curiously before she eventually plucks them off and pops the garnish into the drink itself. There was already a good chunk of berry flavour infused into the cider from the looks of it but there was nothing wrong with a little extra was there?]

In that case, I'm sitting down for a few...

[She plops into a nearby chair before sipping at the cider. She smiles around the lip of the glass before shooting Yuri and thumbs up in response before downing the rest of the drink.]

Yummy as always!

Oh. Hey.

[K'pandolu is a welcome site for sore, golden wendigo eyes, because Dylas has been doing nothing but scratching his mane beneath his suit and fidgeting to the point where there's now a hoof mark on the wooden floor or carpet he's been standing on.

His normal scowl is lifted into an expression of surprise, mouth hanging open for a second before he remembers to shut it.]

Is this for me? You...didn't really have to go through any trouble for me, you know.

[His voice isn't as harsh as it usually sounds, at least. It is a nice gesture.]

I make fun sometimes, in my own way-

[He answers with a quick flash of a smile. Sephiroth is getting better at lifting that once-engulfing mist of sadness these days, even if the festive period doesn't help. It just draws him back to last year...when they'd-

A lot of the reasons why Sephiroth goes out of his way to remain distracted. Between work and his personal 'fun' in his extensive fitness regime and near-constant weapons training even at this time of year.

He does seem to straighten his posture some, almost as if to make a point he hadn't been holding up, or leaning against any wall. Though half a beat later his expression betrays another meaning to that expression that Selphie may or may not have intended.]

-though definitions of fun do differ.

Maybe.

[He used to know what was going on, but has been too overwhelmed in recent months, but is far too self-assured to admit it.]

How 'bout, if something comes up, and we need to punch it hard, I'll let ya know. I'm positive it'll happen sooner than later.

I'd like that. I mean, if you'd like that. I still owe you from letting me crash at your place for so long.

[The jail is not 'his place,' but Dylas will gladly pretend it is.]

[whoops. She doesn't envy whoever's going to try to deal with that.

She keeps smiling, ears twitched up.]

I thought it'd be nice. I hope you'll like it, in any case.
