[It's the 23rd of December, and, as promised, Kuppa Cupo has opened its doors for the first (and hopefully not last) Christmas/Starlight party!]

[The entire restaurant is decorated for the season, complete with a large tree near the entrance. The ceiling is covered in lights, and the tables all have matching red and green tablecloths. Near the wall, the catering table is packed with food.]

[Even the helper moogles are taking part in the festivities, with many of them wearing elf or santa costumes. Whether you came early to help set up, or arrived fashionably late, enjoy!]

Oh, there you are!

[Jade seems to appear at her side out of nowhere, bending over slightly with a new glass of eggnog to replace her empty one -- with the correct amount of whipped cream, naturally. She's part of the reason why he decided to put some effort into dressing up for the occasion in the first place, so of course he's putting on his most charming smile for her as well.]

You look positively captivating tonight.♥

Ah, Jade! I'm glad you made it.

[She cheerfully accepts the eggnog replacement with thanks, pleased at the thoughtful gesture.]

You look stately and handsome yourself. I don't know if it's even possible for you to appear less than elegant.

[Except for that one night, but that hardly counts.]

I'm glad you were able to make it. It was difficult not to give this to you early. One moment...

[Rukia holds up a finger before ducking away, making her path toward the tree where she stashed all of her presents. It's not like her dress has any convenient pockets. It doesn't take her long to return with a velvet cube, bearing a striking resemblance to a jewelry box. Because that's what it is. What's inside, however, is not jewelry. It's a shiny new medal with a blue ribbon woven into it, a gift he may have innocently and accidentally commissioned. And she's so very proud of the results.]

You're too kind. It was all I could do to reach your level.

[Is he laying the flattery on thick? Oh yes. What's the point of flirting if you don't have fun with it?

He waits for her return, increasingly curious. You can never quite predict where Rukia will go with gifts. She certainly likes following traditions, but more often than not there's some kind of a hole in her understanding of them and the present doesn't turn out to be what you expected.

Another jewelry box, though? It's surprising she would go for something so similar to the last one-- And then Jade actually opens the box and sees the contents.

She went through with it. He should have expected it, and yet somehow she managed to surprise him yet again.

There is only one appropriate response to this. Jade decisively takes the medal out of the box and, without a hint of embarrassment or shame, pins it on his lapel where it's perfectly visible.]

Well? How does it look?

[It's a question that Rukia takes seriously. She contemplates the placement of the medal for a long moment, sipping at her eggnog. A few moments later, she sticks out her arm, thumb jutting upward in approval.]

I wasn't sure if using a silver medal would work best for your coloring, but it seems to complement you nicely.

[And she's absolutely delighted to see him don it without question. Whether he's merely humoring her or genuinely pleased, it seems to matter little. She's happy, and nodding to herself to acknowledge her excellent taste in gifts.]

I considered purchasing a book for your collection, but there didn't seem to be many you lacked in your personal collection.

[It might explain why she'd been paying so much attention to his bookshelves in previous visits as she'd tried to memorize what he already had. Certainly she could have bought him a book that she enjoyed reading, but presenting him with such a novel might result in him actually reading passages aloud at the party.]

[He could wait to find that extra present waiting for him on the kitchen counter, thanks to Moogle delivery services.]
