Buffeted as he was by the earthquake, Kenshin reached the Enterprise, seizing the railing and pulling himself over with one of the Heroes' help - but it was necessity alone that led him to follow the others in their escape. The great pillar that vaulted from the ground beside the ship struck him with a glare like the judgment of a divine being. Within, Kenshin was not so sure it was just like that. Not anymore.
He'd lived through war before. He'd pledged to stand with them, knowing some would not return. But to think...
As he held himself to the railing, Kenshin looked, again, at the abyss into which Miss Rialynn, Pyrrha, and the others had been thrown. And this abyss was so deep it did not even seem to stare back. Some of the hollowness in his eyes from that time in Rakinmura, that town of broken men and souls in despair, touched them now. He had to believe they were all right, that they were not yet beyond the reach of their help. He had to believe that...whatever force had overcome Ramza, it could be driven from the young Beoulve.

He had to.
It was just hard.
The hardest thing of a hard, hard day.
