Gwen Cooper has fallen to one knee, world spinning as she tries to catch her breath. No. Her last sight had been Jack, moving to block an attack, or get in its way. She's got to get back up. She leans heavily on her gunblade, metal dragging loud against the ground, as she uses it to prop herself back up to standing. She can't rise fully, and her other hand clutches hard at her side, covering a wound. She briefly pulls her hand away, then hisses and claps it against herself again. That's not something she's living through.
Gwen's head snaps up, eyes casting around, in the group of the fallen Heroes, until she catches sight of them both, and she gasps in horror. Jack, and his perfect bloody Doctor. Jack died trying to protect the Time Lord, and it did neither of them any good. His body lies still over top of the Doctor's, and Gwen's gaze can't leave the impossibly wrong sight. Come on. Get back up, you bastard. The job's not finished. You can't run out of time now, Jack. Jack? They've known the risks, but even here, those risks never seemed to touch Jack. Not him. When so many died, but he kept on going? There can't be a world without Jack, so now he just has to get back up.
Yunalesca's words are almost mocking Gwen's pain, and she turns to stare at the woman. The Doctor had come here to talk, and it had done no good. And yet, there is still a flare of hope in Gwen. They can still turn this around. But they have to turn it into a fight.
"Why?" The word is croaked out, before Gwen clears her throat and tries to stand up more. "Why won't you fight? Are you so afraid of sorrow and pain, you'd die to run away from them?"
