Angeal knew the dark side of ShinRa and it was the driving force that made him stay away. Still, he had a promise to keep and it was Zack and Sephiroth that kept him bound to his duty to them both to do as much as he could after his defection. He was caught in the middle. His loyalty to his friends as an honor-bound man and not as a SOLDIER was his biggest reason why he chose to keep fighting as long as he could. He figured there was more to it, and Genesis was still his friend even through the hardships he faced afterward.
Zack's admission was acknowledged with a nod. He wasn't going to hold it against Zack for his actions. He was saving a friend's life, and that was exactly the same thing he would have done. He put aside his personal reasons to listen and the story hurt. The Turks were not an easy bunch to lose and he knew that from experience as well. They were trained to take out SOLDIERs should they lose themselves and they were good at their jobs.
"I see." He paused for a moment and gave Zack an approving expression filled with hope and admiration. "You've grown. I can't fault you for doing what you felt was right. But, this won't excuse you from training." It was Angeal's way of saying welcome home, as best as home could be under the circumstances. "We'll talk more. For now, you don't have to worry about that here."
With a new world that faced them, they had to face it together as a whole as leaders of a new dawn. Angeal was still faced with two major issues both by the name of Sephiroth and Genesis.
His meal was brought to him and he nodded with a deep inhale once the server had left. "We can't enjoy a meal with heavy hearts. It's bad for digestion. You'll need your strength, hero."
