Being possibly one of the least friendly by nature, Sephiroth only didn't want someone to be standing behind him wanting to get his attention yet not speaking up. Even if his thoughts weren't that heavy currently, it would be as a niggle at the back of his mind. Better to get it over with.

He was pleased to hear an intelligent reply to his statement, though. To have questions answered, at all, was to head in the right direction as far as he was concerned.
