makingfriends: what I need is us in a simpler day (What I want is not our freedom)

"Ah..." As closely as Ven was watching both girls for an answer, Selphie's careful reaction puzzled him for a moment -- until he backtracked to his own reaction and abruptly realized how it could have come off. "Oh! Uh -- no, that's fine -- I mean, I'm fine sharing with him. I just, um..." He just wasn't sure how to even begin explaining. He knew a lot -- or he knew enough -- but there were still so many gaps, questions, and uncertainties in even his most recent memories (and those weren't entirely lucid to begin with) that Ven couldn't claim to understand everything that had happened since the X-blade shattered. Or, no, his tie to Sora started before then, didn't it?

Obviously, Ven's knowledge on the whole matter was so patched that he couldn't even explain all of it to himself, let alone others. So after an indecisive pause, he decided to run with Meredy's conclusion, since it was the closest to the complicated truth.

"I... know him, yeah." Any chance of his hesitation being misconstrued as unease was, hopefully, dispelled as Ven shook his head with a distant smile. "We're not from the same world, exactly, but we've met a couple times. It was a long time ago, though. He might not remember me." He didn't seem to mind that possibility, at least, if his expression was any indication; rather, he had already accepted it as likely. Sora had been tiny the first time Ven saw him, a toddler or so; the most recent glimpse had shown him to be around Ven's age.

"So you two are good friends of his, huh?" he went on, purposely pushing the topic away from himself slightly.
