Gaston's footing buckled under Anthy's words. The solid stone of the castle rooftop trembled, and not as stone cracking or breaking. Rather the rooftop surged and flexed like a wave in a turbulent ocean storm. It was all he could do to keep his balance.
The Beast and Belle for the moment were forgotten. He'd have his prize soon enough but here and now there was this sorceress standing in his way. And there was only one way to deal with a witch.
He pulled his knife from his belt and charged forward with uneven steps. He did not get far though. He could not get far. The wind blew harder and harder and the rooftop lengthened so that the distance between them never changed.
"Away witch! I will not be lectured by anyone! Least of all you!"
His own voice drowned out a low growl in the darkness around him. He did not see the bestial eyes that reflected the light of the lightning as it arced across the sky or the shadow that crept along the castle walls.
