Rose raised one eyebrow and gave the woman before her the same look she used to give her grandkids when they were trying to get clever.

"Couldn't you have shown whatever you need to show by coming over for tea instead all this?"

"And what destiny would that be?" she asks through a glare. She has no respect for the woman, but she also knows attacking her won't stop whatever her plan is. Getting information out of her is key.

[it is a very good thing Tazendra actually bothered to put on armor, as the blow landed. As it was, it was enough to stagger her, and knock the wind from her.]

[She didn't expect it would cool his blood, though. And now Logen was a direct threat she refused to fight, and an indirect shield for Kalki.]

[And she started to cast Blizzaga... with a twist. She included both herself and Kalki in the targets (but not Logen): with any luck, her opponent would prefer to keep an enraged Logen in the play, and would end up taking the hit even if she switched Tazendra's position.]

Kalki seemed to know exactly what she was talking about.

"The vision describes an inescapable fear. Those who see it-- Nearly always, they are driven mad by the revelation."

What if to avoid the death of a thousand, you had to kill one?

[She looked at him.]

To avoid the death of a million, you had to kill a thousand? To save all of existence, you had to destroy a world? When does it become wrong?

As a matter of fact, I think very highly of him. He nearly accomplished what I hope for one of you to eventually do.

She chuckled and shook her head.

"I am afraid what is about to happen cannot be shown so easilly."

She paused.

"You are part of it, after all."

[Surprisingly, this tactic did work and she managed to hit and even hurt Kalki. But Kalki did have another trick up her sleeve and waved her hand toward Tazendra.]

Job Disable.

[With this, her Black Mage Job would be disabled for the remainder of the fight.

But she had proved Kalki can be hurt, so that has to count for something.]

I assume that was Palitutu's goal all long, then. To have as many Doppelgangers as possible near the Crystal of Fire when the explosion occurred, so that at least some of them would learn the truth. But how did she herself know of the past cycles?

[Kalki smiled but turned back to look at the Crystal. She didn't seem to have the intention to answer any more questions.]

Indeed. Knowing exactly how the cycle works is necessary for the plan to succeed.

[She turned back and looked at the crystal.]

Garland is the guardian. The one you saw is an earlier incarnation of the man who lives today. he is both a friend and an enemy. As for what he is planning, I am sure you already know.

"Who? I am quite certain you all know who is the only one with the knowledge and means to bring you here besides me."

Heroes of Light have been summoned to this world for countless cycle. They have all tried and failed. They have exhausted all possibilities-- What makes you think there is another way?
