Lydia's job was as important as his own; feeding and making sure there was water for all the volunteers not only fulfilled an obvious need, the small breaks that the groups took in shifts helped to form cohesion which would help them at work as well. It made the days brighter, when they were surrounded by so much grief and devastation.
He only caught her eye contact, with that grin, for a moment before his sledgehammer came down again onto a larger brick before him with a loud crack. Sephiroth grunted audibly; debating whether his job switch had been a smart one given as he had even less strength now, before dropping his shoulder, gripping the handle again and hefting the heavy tool back around. This time, the rock split cleanly into two with a sharper crack of a noise and Sephiroth set the hammer against the wall, following where he'd seen Lydia vanish to hand out her items.
"Good to see you, Lydia."
Having been working all day so far, Sephiroth was sweaty and even where his hair was scraped up into a high tail away from his face there seemed a fine layer of brick dust that had settled on top of it, much like where it caked his arms almost up to his elbows despite the fact that he did wear thick gloves.
Which he then pulled off and reached for a canteen of water.
