There was an even more basic difference between Project G and Project S that if Genesis had been more in his right mind and less governed by his own decaying sense of self he probably would have recalled. Fact was, Sephiroth had been raised within Shinra where his two former friends had not.
Their classification as flawed results had awarded them a view of the world that the silver general had not, but in the same breath it had ensured one thing for sure; Sephiroth's continued loyalty to the Company was not yet cracked enough to cave under the truths that Genesis might try to have him hear. They had raised him, trained him, given him all that he had ever needed in life due to only his birthright. In fact, he had been the one to put himself forward for Shinra's greater goals, had been the one keen to repay some of the incalculable debt he owed them.
"So destructive, as usual."
Besides, this man that had one time had been his friend was spewing mad delusions for sure. No matter how much Sephiroth tried to see past that, so what might remain of his once-close friend could possibly be appealed to, it was obviously less-likely here than it had been ever previously.
And then the attack came. Sephiroth forced his opposite shoulder forwards and outstretched his hand; expertly commanding his Barrier to diffuse the firey energy along it's edge in an arch around him. He turned his head upwards to where Genesis had leapt and -as expected- the red-head came diving down, sword first.
Decision made, Sephiroth waited until the final thread of a second to move before he did so. Rolling down and dodging away from the impact that might otherwise have impaled him, he quickly followed with a sharp kick up towards Genesis' torso, followed by a long turning slash with Masamune as he forced the flawless counter attack.
