Mooglehunt

Characters: James Kidd (Mary Read) and the Heroes she's approached about her Assassin's Guild
Where: Trano Golsaucia
When: Begins November 6th and hopefully ends by the 9th
Summary: The information that Mary has gathered has lead her to believe that the fugitive moogle Artemicion has been spotted in Trano Golsaucia. She's decided to take a small group to take him in herself.
OOC notes: This log is semi closed to people who Kidd has had CR with. However the first prompt will be open and if you want to try to come on board please contact me via plurk or message. Even so, she wants to keep party size limited so to not spook her quarry. OOC post here: link

Largely this will be a first proper mission for her guild's pc trainee's. Information on the Artimicion will be supplied by the mods as they're able to help us out. Beyond that this is sneakytime fun. I'll handle any npcs that we interact with. I believe the best way to do it would be for each player to pick which location and date they will be searching an area during the trip, covering the 7th and 8th. On the 9th a move will be made and hopefully the moogle will be captured.

On the 5th, letters go out to a few particular Heroes, and not through the normal Mognet channels. Instead they are dropped off quickly and quietly, though a keen eye may still spot the hooded moogle jumping from hiding place to perching point as she goes about her deliveries.

The letter reads:

Dear Friends,

Ever since the vanishing of Palitutu I have been reaching out to various contacts that I could make around the world, trying to find out what I can about her movements. While the Tarutaru has remained elusive, there seem to have been sightings of a particular moogle that I would like to investigate and I'd appreciate your assistance.

Please meet me at the Eagle Eye pub tomorrow so that we may discuss matters.

"Yup"

It really wasn't so hard considering that she had it mastered almost as soon as assassin was discovered. She looked over at Kidd with a curious glance before taking another drink.

"Just let me know the plan."

She's here to get stuff done.

Kidd nodded. She respected the ninja's desire to get right to the heart of the matter. "We'll be going to Trano Golsaucia when we're done here. I want us all to split up and search for clues about Artemicion. I expect that if we don't find him within a few days then there's a good chance he'll go to ground."

She sighed and poured a shot, twisting the glass with her fingers before downing it. "If you will be using that Job the enhancement it offers to your senses will be of help. I still find it remarkable that something that took me years of training can be granted here so easily."

"Yeah I feel like this world cheats." Not that Yuffie really minds. When she woke up without her ninja skills she had been pissed. Now she's at least on pair and can turn invisible. It's pretty awesome.

Her dark eyes look over at Kidd for a long moment.

"So drink now? We won't be able to later?"

Kidd smirked and poured another shot, sliding it over to Yuffie. She didn't mind the girl's age. After all, her culture and experience were different from most modern ones. "There's almost always time to drink. Keeping track of your limits is the thing."

She downed her own shot, grimacing a little at the grog. She'd been away from the sea for too long. Landlubber booze was starting to affect her. "But now is a good time, aye."

Yuffie smiled taking the shot and then downing it without much thought. A shiver runs through her while warmth fills her gut. That was awesome.

"Guess so."

She downed her current drink and then passed over her glass to kid requesting more. Yuffie might get a little drunk depending on how much Marry gives her.

Kidd was more than happy to refill the glasses. They'd have time to recover before their mission began, and more than that she honestly trusted Yuffie to know what she was doing, at least as far as being a ninja went.

"So...You said you were a princess of your village. Is that how you got your training? They were willing to let their princess learn to fight?" It may seem like nothing to Yuffie, but Kidd's home period was a bit less progressive.

Yuffie nodded her head before taking a sip of the drink. There was another shiver and then a giggle leaving her lips. She'd drink this glass slower but it was good.

"Yeah, I was born during a time of war and everyone learned to fight. It wasn't so we could fight but she we would achieve balance. You can't really know peace unless you know chaos... ya know?"

She really only half paid attention to her lessons.

"Sides, if I'm going to protect Wutai I have to be able to protect myself." It really just made sense.

"I suppose that's true." Yuffie did have a point about being able to protect herself. Still, Mary was not entirely happy with the idea of war forcing children to learn to fight. To learn to kill. She didn't know all of Yuffie situation but her imagination filled in the gaps.

"If we ever get to find our ways home I'm sure you'll be a good leader for your village then. Myself I more came into things by accident. Met the right person at the right time and devoted myself to the study. It was around that same time I became a pirate."

Yuffie's killed before and she didn't really see anything wrong with it. Monsters, killing, it was all just a way of life for her. It wasn't so bad once you got used to it.

"I hope so." It was for Wutai that she did so much.

Another sip of her drink, her dark eyes looking over at Mary. "Why become a pirate though? Just... impressionable?"

Once again Mary began to twist the glass in her hands, looking into it as she thought things over. It wasn't that she was trying to avoid her past but this part felt so far back now that it was like another lifetime.

"I've been posing as a man all my life. Different reasons. Mostly because money was involved in one way or another. I joined the Navy for a while, then met a man I loved and we tried to run an inn. After he passed I found the sea calling to me once more, but this time the ship was ransacked by pirates."

She chuckled and smirked at Yuffie, "Since they thought I was a man my choices were join them or die. Turns out I was rather good at it too."

"Not dying sounds good."

She took another drink feeling a slight buzz from the drink. It's a nice feeling and it brings a smile to the young princesses lips.

"It's nice that you got some time with him. The guy you loved." She looked sideways at Kidd for a moment and then now at her glass.

Mary nods and smiles. It's a sad smile, but not one that seems to pain her either. "I am. And I was young so I was able to move on. I met others after him. If anything I can say for certain that my life was full of interesting people."

“I guess that’s good…”

Yuffie was going to say more but she’s learned enough now to realize she was about to be really insensitive and she’d rather stay Mary’s friend. She clicked her tongue, her dark gaze flicking over after taking a rather long swig of her drink.

“Anyone you like here?”

Yuffie has a list of people she thinks are cute which she started when she first arrived. It’s amazing how her age jump made people fall or rise on that list.

"Mmmm, maybe." She gripped the bottle in both hands, thinking it over before taking a long pull straight from it. A little liquid courage would help if they were going down this path. No shame in it. It helped her nerves to be this open.

"Sephiroth is rather strapping, isn't he? And perhaps if Ramza were a bit older....Lady Ashelia would be a nice catch but I get the feeling she wouldn't be interested." Her eyes flitted over to Saori at the other table and her lips quirked in a smirk. "There may be someone, aye. Just haven't had a chance yet to really explore it."

Yuffie looked over at Mary with an unblinking expression. “You go after Ramza and I’ll break your legs.” She was doing what any good sister would which was keeping someone potentially dangerous away from her brother. She smiled at Mary before following her gaze towards Saori.

“Sephiroth and Ashe are too tense but you’re willing to try… As for Saori.” Yuffie giggled now because she knew something about that. “I heard that she was dating a guy here but she has kids at home? Or something, I was eavesdropping at the time. Apparently the two of them did it a lot so she’s probably open for someone to jump in.”

The fact that Yuffie knew this really shouldn’t surprise Mary but she’s pretty blunt about it considering the furthest she’s gotten with a guy was kissing.

Yuffie's threat was met with a blank stair and then loud laughter. She knew that the two knew each other but she didn't expect that level of violent protection of the lad. "Ahaha! Like I said, he's a mite too young for me but don't worry...I won't get in your way." She gave Yuffie a wink before settling back comfortably. She was feeling nice and loose right now and she was realizing how much she needed this before they set out on their business.

"I suppose I'll have to ask Saori about that myself. She did beat Ramza for me at the dating auction, so I guess we'll see what she's after soon enough." She paused a moment but then leaned in, furrowing her brow, "Do you know who it was here that she was seeing?"

She couldn't help but be curious.

"His name was Laguna but I think she's married too... so I think she can date or see a lot of people at once." Yuffie wasn't so good at that herself. She got jealous and possessive of one person, at least in that regard. She was protective of friends and family members regardless.

"AND RAMZA AND I AREN'T LIKE THAT!"

In case it wasn't clear she's freaking out that Kidd suggested it.

An eyebrow quirked at Yuffie's further assessment of Saori. She hadn't really known married folk to date multiple people without trying to keep it all a secret. At the very least things still seemed...promising perhaps?

But Yuffie's outburst about Ramza just made her laugh all the more. It was a good buzzed laugh and it was lifting her spirit, even if it was at the expense of Yuffie's dignity.

Yuffie was going to very ungracefully drop the subject. She gulped down what was left of her cup feeling the buzz instantly hit her.

This was too much of an awkward conversation and Mary was laughing at her!!!

Mary didn't press any further when Yuffie stopped fighting back. It was never intended as anything more than friendly ribbing. Pouring herself another drink she simply sat back and drank it slow.

Where Yuffie wanted to take this from here was up to her, but Mary wasn't planning to hold any of this against her.
