Palitutu's Secret Lab

Summary: Thanks to the Heroes who explored the sewers, a secret area under Palitutu's laboratory was discovered and is now accessible through an elevator! What secrets could Palitutu have left behind? Let's go look...

[The lab seems to be a mixture of Aqurean, Heran and Ancient technology and is designed identically to Palitutu's old room in the Temple of Fire. There are several points of interest to be investigated...]

[Finally, there is a Job Assembly & Restoration area, which sadly will not activate no matter what the Heroes do.

Feel free to use this for mingling or any other threads you might want to play out while inside the lab!]

[ This is where Sheena will eventually wander off to while the others poke and prod at some of the machinery. Except for a few times, she hadn't really said much on this trip--not even a wry joke about Jade's name being on one of the doors.

Sighing, she lightly runs a finger across a panel. She really should apologize to him for what had happened at the beginning of the month...

But it's probably too late now. ]

[You think you feel bad, Sheena? Twilight's feeling worse. She doesn't understand what's gotten into her the past few weeks, but all of this has sapped her curiosity and happiness. What should have been quite the happy moment for the princess has just lead her to lay nearby and letting out a defeated sigh.

Unless Sheena decides to speak up first, they might just end up spending the entire time moping.]

[ Hearing her friend approach, Sheena raises a curious eyebrow when the pony lays down and also sighs.

The ninja quirks her head in the direction of the others. ]

Aren't you going to join them?

[Twilight shakes her head]

Why bother? I'm just going to make a bigger fool of myself than I already have. I'll just... hang back and see what the rest of you find.

[ Sheena's brows raise in surprise. ]

Because you're smart, Twilight. You're not like me; you understand this stuff.

[ Sheena's the one who acts like the fool. ]

But, you don't understand, Sheena - ever since what happened earlier this month, I've been doing nothing but sticking my hoof in my mouth. Even if I do understand the things in here, I'm certain someone here would just chide me again for thinking that way.

I mean, what if I suddenly got this machine working, despite all the obvious notes to the contrary? Am I suddenly going to be talked down to because of what I've done or what I've said?

[She turns away from Sheena, resting her head on her forelegs.]

I'm just a silly pony who doesn't know what she's doing here... that's all. It's obvious that you all know better than I do...

[It's quite obvious she's smarting from Zelda's death, Biggs' letter and the meeting.]

[ Sheena regards her friend for several moments before sitting on the floor next to her and placing a hand on her head. ]

Twilight, have you ever fought someone to the death before? Or seen anyone die before?

[ And she isn't just talking in battle. ]

[Twilight shook her head slightly.]

...no, not really.

[ Sheena wraps her arm about the pony's shoulders. ]

I...didn't think so. I was trained to fight ever since I was a child. [ She grows quiet for a long moment. ] That doesn't mean I enjoy killing--far from it. I've seen too much of it. [ Been the cause of a lot of it. ] I will do whatever is in my power to see that it doesn't happen, but if doing so is the only way I can protect someone, I will.

[ No revenge for her--but protection. Which is why she had suggested the ring as a target. ]

But that's me; that's not you. That doesn't mean you have to change who you are. Everyone makes mistakes; it happens. You should give yourself the chance to correct it.

But, being me got people killed and trying to be like everyone else got people yelling at me...

[She leans herself against Sheena, trying not to jab her with her horn.]

I thought I was done dealing with this sort of problem and yet...

First of all, those of us who yelled at you for trying to be like everyone else did it because we care about you. [ She hugs her friend closer, also being careful of the horn, and sighs deeply. ]

So, because of what happened, you're going to not do the very thing I know you love? Not be the pony I know and call a friend?

Let me ask you this. If something like this had happened back on your world, what would you have done? Would you have given up and let your world be destroyed, or would you have done whatever it was you could do to save it? [ For a moment, she looks sheepish. ]

I know Shining, too. We've talked.

I would have done everything I could have to save it! Me and my friends would have done that no matter what!

[And that was the truth.]

But... I guess I should have stopped and thought things over first...

That's what I thought.

[ Oh, she believes her. ]

And that's what you were trying to do with Rialynn--I get that. But sometimes, what you want to do for the world can't be done for a person--and death can be a resort. Not the only one, though.

[ She's not angry with you, Twilight. She just has more experience with this. ]

Perhaps. You made a mistake, and it sounds like you're learning from it. So don't let Biggs get to you, okay? He also has to understand that things don't work the same on other worlds as they do here, so people have different ways of handling things.

[Given that Sheena usually tries to contribute more to the discussion, Jade quickly notices that something's off. He makes no mention of it with others around, though. No need to put her on the spot.

Once others are distracted elsewhere, he quietly slips away and goes to check up on her.]

Why the long face, Sheena? Bored already?

[ Why Jade. She didn't know you cared...

Hearing someone approach, Sheena keeps her eyes averted until he speaks directly to her, making her freeze briefly.

Looking up, she shakes her head. ]

No. You know I'm not smart enough for all of that.

Well now. What's this all of a sudden?

[Other than the computers, they're hardly doing anything that would require intellectual prowess.]

[ She shakes her head. ]

It's not all of a sudden. I've always been simple. [ Is it sad that she says this calmly, as though stating a well-known fact? ] And lately, the things I say have done more harm than good.

[ She turns and mutters in a low voice, but he'll still be able to hear. ]

Like simply believing Light would cancel Dark.

[Ah. So that's what this is about. Jade is silent for a moment.]

You're blaming yourself for what happened back there.

[It's not really a question. The guilt is quite obvious in the way she's acting.]

[ Yep. That's what this is all about. ]

Well, it's my fault it happened. If I hadn't made that suggestion...

[ She hasn't turned to look at him, but her meaning is clear even as she trails off. ]

I was the one who followed it. The responsibility is mine, not yours.

[This is something he's very firm about. It wouldn't have occurred to him to blame Sheena, not when it was his spell that ended up taking civilian lives.]

[ Stop using her arguments to others against her, Jade.

Crossing her arms, she met his gaze. ]

Tell the truth. If I hadn't said anything would you have even gotten the idea in the first place?

[ Some of her heat disappears. ]

I really screwed up, but I don't know how to correct this mistake.

[While everyone else gathers around different areas, Ed futilely attempts to get this one online. After spending far too long at it, he slams a fist down on one of the terminals in frustration.]

Forget it. Don't waste your time over here.
