Event || A New Hope

Once the ship got close enough to the facility, Kidd handed off the helm to Saori. Even though this was a design of a craft that was technically ahead of what she knew, and even considering the seriousness of the situation, she had to know how it handled. She would need some more practice with modern ships, but the time at the wheel helped her to calm and focus for the impending operation.

Just like old times.

As the attack began, Kidd climbed to the highest point she could on the ship, surveying the field and looking for the best approach. Even if the enemy knew they were under attack, she still wanted to try to do this with as few eyes finding her as possible. She carefully scanned the field for her targets, mages and stragglers. Circle around and strike from the shadows; they'd go down the easiest and it would support the others. And then she could go inside and help to rescue the captives.

With a long breath she closed her eyes. Time to do what she did best. She dove into the water, swimming for shore as soon as she hit it.

When it was time to change hands, Saori gave Kidd a smile. It was reassuring knowing there was someone who could cover for her if she went down. Hopefully that wouldn't be happening this time.

"Thanks for your help. To be honest, it's my first time handling a ship. I only knew the basics from the Balicea locals but you did an amazing job. I take it's not your first time handling a ship?"

There was still a little time before the operation began. Kidd supposed they had a little time to chat, "No, I've captained and piloted back home as well. This ship is something different though. The ones I'm used to were more in the way of wood and sails."

"A captain, huh? I'm sure if we had more time, you could easily master these ships too. Based on Sparks's scouting, there's no place where we can land in secret like a cave or an alcove. We'll be a sitting duck in that case," she said. Honestly, she felt out of her element and she chewed her bottom lip in thought.

"I don't suppose there's not much of an option we can do besides one of us staying behind? If push comes to shove, I'll volunteer for it. Besides, we need someone to keep watch of any unexpected guests coming in to visit. What do you think?"

"It doesn't look like it, no. You're right that it's a shame we don't have a place to keep the ship out of sight. I doubt they'll be expecting a frontal assault, but it still places us at a disadvantage.

She rolled her sleeve up some, fiddling with a device she had hidden there. She hadn't a chance to test its waterproofing yet and she had already taken the time to curse at herself for it. Now it was going to come down to a live test. "'tis a good plan. I'll be going ashore and trying to help support the others. Hopefully we can still have some surprise on our side. If we get in trouble there is no shame in retreat. Just be sure to take as many of us with you as you safely can."

"Of course. You can leave it to me. Just come back in one piece, alright? And I mean that for everyone here." Despite the seriousness, she manages to smile. Sure they'll get revived but the actual dying part was something Saori was all too familiar with and didn't want others to go through it if possible.

"What's that you got there?"

Kidd smiled and nodded, "Don't worry, I know how to handle myself in this sort of thing and I'll keep the others covered as well." That made two of them on being familiar with dying, and Kidd had even less interest in testing the new realities of this world's mortality.

"This?" She turned her wrist to show off the device. "It's a weapon from back home. I managed to get one as a boon from Miss Jessie. I had to have it repaired but it's in good working order now."

Likewise, Nel will be following suit, but only after allowing some distance from Kidd before she goes in herself. One person approaching the shoreline would be hard to notice in the darkness, but more than that would be taking some chances. Chances Nel didn't want to risk.

It doesn't take long for her to reach shore and once she does? She'll immediately take cover within the darkness, hands on blades and already focused on a target: two foot soldiers, and spread out far enough so that they should be simple enough to take out.

Nel's attention briefly draws away to look for anyone else on shore; namely the one that went in ahead of her. It's true they could both work alone if need be, but if they can work in succession...

Of course, any means of cooperation would have to be silent too. Best to rely on subtle signals here.

Emerging from the water, Kidd pulled into a crouch behind a rock and waited for Nel. She wasn't sure how many would follow her, if any, but she was happy to have at least one person watching her back.

Kidd flexed her wrist, making sure the hidden blade was set. She had a knife in her off hand and a shortsword at her belt, but she was going to lead with the weapon she was most comfortable with.

The two didn't have to wait long for one of the patrol groups to come around. A lightly armored soldier and a mage. She was again happy for the backup. She might have been able to take out both at once if she had the option of higher ground, but they were limited to a ground approach. Looking back to Nel she made hand signals, trying to say she was going around to take the mage.
