With Rukia's help they were able to find a large enough hall in Christmas Town to throw the party. Zelda had set it for this day since a group of brave heroes were going to set out on the 24th. She had made sure that everything was perfect and of course everyone was invited. There were at least six decorated trees with polished silver and gold ornaments hanging from their branches. Scarlet red ribbons decorated the trees and tables with large bows tying the streaming trails together.

There was one very large tree at the halls center and there were a few presents around the bottom for those who needed a place to put gifts. At it's top was a large pointed star.

Champagne and small finger snacks were set on the tables and a part of the room was cleared for those who wanted to dance. Zelda was even able to hire a few people to play Christmas songs throughout the night. There was a table dedicated to sweets with cookies, cakes, small pies and other wonderful treats spread out for people to try.

Among the decorations was mistletoe. This little plant hung above the doorways waiting for any pair who happens to be caught in their hold. Most of the mistletoe was thanks to Minako but Zelda might have put up one sprig at the entrance to the party; it's all in good fun and kisses on the hand or cheek are perfectly acceptable.

Even with how busy she was this month, it was no surprise Saori was there to provide support on both the food and party front. She wasn't much of a dancer, so she hung around the sidelines. Saori wore the same dress she wore to the date auction but added some extra holiday flare. A red velvet short capelet with white trimming draped over her shoulders and a silver jeweled piece in her hair.

As much of an avid tea drinker she was, her need for caffeine was too strong and so coffee was her choice of drink. Not only had she been busy with her police job and playing the role of Mrs. Claus, she made several gifts herself. Granted these charms weren't blessed with her goddess powers, they were proof she cared about the people they were given to.

"Hey."

Reno came quietly from behind and lightly touched her back so as not to startle her. The sidelines was just fine for him. It was easier to give Saori her gift with a little more privacy that way. He smiled as he offered her a plainly wrapped rectangle, a copy of The Kupo Sutra within. He couldn't resist.

Saori turned around, a little surprised before breaking into a smile.

"Aww thank you," she beamed as she took the present. "Guess this would a perfect time to give you yours. Just don't go opening it here, okay?" She waved to her moogle and in a second she came back with a bag. After a second of searching she pulled a wrapped rectangular box. Congratulations Reno, you're now a proud owner of a nice collection of adult books straight out of Mysidia.

"It's been a while since our last meet up. How have you been?"

He glanced at her with a curious smile before carefully pulling up the wrapping at the seam for a peek.

And laughing.

"Great minds think alike, I guess. Wait t' open yours 'til later, too," he said with a grin. "Y'know, I've been okay. Better than bein' puked on by ghosts, that's for sure."

Because ew. And also, he had been okay. Surprisingly okay, for being stuck here in another new world. The people helped.

"How've you been?"

Wending her way through the party, it took longer than she expected to finally run into Saori. She was lucky she found herself approaching the other woman from the side because it was a dress that Mary remembered and the alterations only made its wearer all the more beautiful in the spirit of this gathering. She was struck by the image but at least hopefully spared the indignity of being seen being momentarily flustered.

Collecting herself, Mary backtracked a bit to fetch a second glass of wine before approaching Saori properly. "It looks like the Christmas Village is a success. Congratulations." Mary had lent her own assistance to the project, but not nearly as directly as Saori had. The pirate was likewise trimmed out in festive colors, but she was still clearly a pirate beneath it.

Depowered goddess: 1, Pirate/Assassin: 0, but who's keeping score? Saori might have caught a glimpse of Mary retreating but made no comment and smiled instead. When she did come back, she smiled and brushed a lock of hair behind her ear.

"I'm glad it all worked out, but we couldn't have done it without everyone's help. I never did properly thank you for all the lifts you gave me and dealing with my animals and Brigid. At least not yet anyway." Let's just say Saori had it with mistletoe after Brigid tried one to many times using it to put her in an awkward spot.

To be honest, she still hadn't exactly picked out Mary's gift despite how close it was to the holiday. Normally she wouldn't have let it slip but she was busy and just hit a wall when it was her turn.

"It wasn't a problem. At first I wasn't planning to do anything about all of this but then I saw everyone else getting excited. Offering people rides was the least I could do." Still, Mary had done a bit of creative contribution of her own. Like that random airship-borne fireworks show from the week prior.

She held out the glass of wine in offering, "I'm sorry. This isn't much of a gift. I do have something in mind but it may take a little bit of work and time." She was reminded briefly of when she taught Anne to fight. Saori was way ahead of her skill wise already but...it felt good to have a student.

Saori accepted the wine with a smile. She gently swirled the glass and took a sip. Oh yes this was much better than coffee at this hour. Without even thinking, she leaned in to give Mary a quick kiss on the cheek.

"I look forward to it then. Oh that reminds me. Will you be free Christmas night? I have a dinner planned but I was wondering if you would like to come over? You know you're always welcome at my place, right?"

That kiss...her cheeks are nice and pink now Saori. She grins wide and takes a sip from her wine but as she hears the question her smile falters.

"No I...I'm sorry. I'd love to join you but I can't. Ramza is planning to entreat with the Empire and I promised him I'd help him out. He wants to try to use the holiday to promote some sort of goodwill. To help protect the people before the Calamity moves again." She sighs and turns her glass in her hand, "I'm honestly going to make sure he isn't walking into a trap without a blade by his side."

If it was anyone else perhaps she'd change her plans, but Ramza was too idealistic a boy for this world. She didn't want to see him come to harm thanks to his honest ideals.

"To the Empire?" Saori looked a bit alarmed. So much for dinner plans. It took Saori a few seconds to process a response. "Well, alright. I won't stop you. Ramza will be in good hands then. Just be careful out there, okay? When you come back then, we'll have another date and this time I'm making dinner."

She gives a small smile but seriously wished she had a camera to get a photo of Mary blushing. "In the mean time, we should celebrate our time together now, don't you agree?"

The worry in Saori's voice hurt Mary's heart. She didn't mean to put the other woman out of sorts over what she was planning. But even so sometimes the right thing to do wasn't always the safest or took you to the places you wanted to be.

But that's what made returning to port all the sweeter. A smile crept across her lips, "That sounds like a lovely plan. As does the one you have for this evening." Still smiling, she clinked her glass to Saori's.
