All was quiet in the Hospital Ward when a lone nurse was making the rounds. It was pretty much the middle of the night and while most people were asleep, there was a few armed guards outside. No one had forgotten the slaughter on All Saints Wake, and few wanted to leave the room unguarded.

Said nurse was passing by the bed of Shining Armor when suddenly his crystal cracked. She jumped at the sound as it cracked rapidly, and the crystals exploded off him.

Shining Armor suddenly jerked upright and in a loud cry and shower of crystals, proclaimed, "I LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!"

CLANG. A bedpan struck him across the back of his head and he fell to the gurney, unconscious as armed guards came rushing in.

Later on, when they assessed he had come out of the crystal stasis and was not about to tear them limb from limb, they untied him.

Moments after that, Shining Armor groaned and stirred. And moaned, "Brains... brains! Smart brains! MIT EDUCATED!"

WHACK.

Hours even later, Shining was released from the hospital with a bandage around his head. "That totally wasn't funny," admonished Dice.

"How was I supposed to know that there had been a Zombie scare?" groused Shining, holding his head in pain.

[so is MIT the Mare-sachusetts Institute of Technology? Also, OOCly Tazendra and Shining Armor were housemates, so I assume they have some CR, even if it is 'that person I live with']

"That happened about two months ago, as the locals count." Tazendra still wasn't totally on board with having such long months, but she was at least using them now.

[Yes, yes it is. And that is perfect.]

"Ugh..." Shining Armor rubbed his head in pain. "It still throbs on the back of my head where the bedpan struck."

"The bedpan?" Tazendra asked. There was a story there.

"I woke up in the hospital. Got struck with a bedpan twice because I stated something funny when I got up. Clearly the nurse on duty wasn't in the mood for it." said Shining with a heavy sigh.

"Ah, well, nurses can take their jobs very seriously," Tazendra commented. In her case, it was more the fact that most medics wanted to tie her to the bed until she recovered, as she'd get bored and wander off (usually to do something that made her injuries worse).

"Yeah, I guess so."

Shining rubbed the back of his head with a hoof before turning to Tazendra. "Did you come visit while I was in stasis?"

"i did! I have several friends that are in Stasis, so I decided to visit them all on trips to the hospital."

And if a roommate could wake up, than perhaps the others would as well.

"Sorry to hear that. I hope they wake up soon." said Shining.

"I'm hoping Twilight wakes up. She must have gone into stasis when I did."

"Your sister? Yes, I hope so as well."

"Yeah, my sister. She's been so busy this holiday season, I hope she didn't wear herself out," said Shining with a worried frown. "She does that sometimes."

"If I had known, I would have checked on her," Tazendra offered. "Should it happen again, I will do so."

"Please do. She gets so absorbed into her work, she forgets to even eat sometimes." Shining shrugged. "Keep her out of her books once in a while and it should be fine."

"Ah, yes. There are many distractions if one is of a scholarly bent. Does her Moogle help?" Tazendra had never lived anywhere without at least a housekeeper who got rather sarcastic when it was mealtime and the residents weren't heading for the table.

"I think her Moogle is at least helping to keep her fed," said Shining with a shake of her head. "But it's something at least to say she's not going hungry."

"There is no reason to go hungry. Unless, of course, one is traveling and has lost their supplies," Tazendra had had that happen; it was very inconvenient until they could find somewhere to buy more.

"Well, sometimes Twily ignores her meals in favor for working, and then she eats way too much," laughed Shining. "Sometimes I feel like she never grew out of that."

"If one is hungry, it is easy to eat a great deal before one realizes they are full," Tazendra said. "Especially if one is at one of the nicer restaurants." Tazendra had the problem that, being taller than most of the humans meant she habitually ordered double entrees.

"Probably yeah. I know she's working as a researcher so it probably gives her an easier time to get food." admitted Shining. "Which I need to sign up for..."

"Then we shall be co-workers," Tazendra said. "Unless you are still speaking of food."

"For work," said Shining with a laugh. "But actually I am kinda getting a bit hungry. Want to stop off at a grocery store?"

"A grocery store or a restaurant? You perceive, I will have to cook much of what we may purchase."

Well, ask her moogle to cook. Over a year away from home and Tazendra could just about manage to cook instant noodles from a box and re-heat leftovers, entirely due to a lack of interest in learning cooking.

"Hmm, grocery store. They always stir fry their vegetables until they're limp," said Shining. "And I can help with the cooking anyhow."

"It would be appreciated." Though Tazendra may end up actually doing a lot of the manual labor, given how many tools are better designed for hands.

"Great! I know this great recipe for honey carrots I've been wanting for a while now," said Shining with a wide smile.

"An excellent plan! Though we will need more honey," Tazendra said. She had been meaning to get some, anyway.

"Yeah, we can get some. The markets close by, and I'll swing by the savings building then," said Shining.

"I can cover the price of a meal," Tazendra said. "I have employment."

"Thanks. I was planning on getting some, but y'know, this happened." said Shining with a sheepish grin.

"And it is not so arduous to make a living by patrolling the unsettled areas between towns," Tazendra said. She'd made a lot of her money by freelance monster fighting before she'd gotten the job at the lab.

"I was considering that," said Shining thoughtfully. "It's a neat life, but I haven't had time to use my sword for a while now."

"Well, the only way to refine your skill is to use it."

"True. I need to practice using my mouth and hooves. I can do it, it's just been a while."

"How would you use a sword otherwise?" Tazendra asked.

"Telekinesis," said Shining, indicating his horn with a glance at his head.

"That would do, if one lacked hands." it would never occur to Tazendra, but she had two hands.

"Yeah and even our hooves and mouths are versatile," said Shining.

"But I imagine it is difficult to walk or speak when trying to perform other tasks."

"Admittedly it's a little awkward for unicorns, but Earth Ponies and Pegasi have gone without telekinesis for a long time now," said Shining, with a smile. He tapped his horn.

"They don't have these after all, so they can't cast the same magic Unicorns can."

"Then it is simply a matter of biology?" Tazendra asked. Well, they weren't human, so perhaps the rules were different. Tazendra didn't see why a horn was needed for spellcasting.

"Pretty much. Innate magics work differently across the three pony tribes." Said Shining with a nod. "There's some differences that are obvious, some that aren't."

"It sounds as much the same as the Houses of my homeland, those are more inclinations than abilities."

"Really? That's something to talk about later when we get home, you think?"

"I would be delighted to explain."

"Sounds good."

"Then shall we wait until we return home formt he market?"

"Yeah I think we can do that."

"That is a plan then!"
