We are off to see the Crystal Tree!

[One eyebrow rose and Albel glanced over at Bartz.]

You think all crystals start out this way, and then they're enchanted later for their specific uses?

[There was nothing insulting about his tone for once. Albel was genuinely thoughtful as he looked anew at the crystal in his hand before stowing it away.]

That would certainly change everything...

[His thoughts were interrupted when there was a sudden shake in the ground, and a roar that sounded way too close for comfort.]

What was that?

Local wildlife, I'd assume.

[Jade was remarkably calm considering how strong the monsters around here were supposed to be. After a moment of thought, he snapped his fingers and cast Mega Regen on the party.]

Sounds like we'll have to save the crystal theory for later.

[Bartz grins.]

Sounds good to me. I wonder what kind of critters live in this forest?

[Maybe some kind of weird crystal monsters? Doesn't really matter. He activates Shunshin, raising his speed and agility.]

[Albel took Bartz's lead, using Shunshin as well. He was glad he did when the quaking drew closer, more violent. Through the crystal trees burst a dragon with another roar, smoke curling at its nostrils and slit eyes falling on the trespassers to its domain.]

Local wildlife. Right.

[Briefly, he thought about trying to reason with the beast, perhaps name-drop Crosell. But this was Crystallis, and this dragon clearly would not care. Albel's katana was in his hand in a flash as the giant lizard descended upon the group.]

Here it comes!

My. That is quite the critter.

[Jade allowed the other two to take the lead. He was a fragile old man, after all.

With dragons, it should be safe to assume there was fire coming their way. He took a moment to cast Shell on Bartz and Albel. The less damage they suffered, the less time he'd have to spend on healing instead of attacking.]

Heh, looks like fun!

[Bartz takes the initiative on this one, and clones himself, lunging forward to attack the monster from either side.]

Guys! Guys, there's a dragon, kupo!

[Mogdelina burst through the trees behind them with her warning, finally catching up to her Hero in the maze. Of course she was a little late with it.]

It's about time you showed up!

[With Bartz cloned, Albel hurled a Watera at the dragon's face to distract it. It roared again, taking a clawed swipe at one of the Bartzes. Mogdelina hurried to help, using Haste to help the other ninja. With Shunshin already active, Bartz should really fly.]

[With the dragon preoccupied, Jade had all the time in the world to cast Blizzaga. He had spells that were more powerful, certainly, but there was no need to waste his energy when a more focused attack on the enemy's weakness would accomplish the same job.

Unsurprisingly, the dragon was very unhappy.]
