Who: Everyone that signed up for the UFO stakeout
Where: Aqures Ixen, Chocobo Ranch area
When: February 19th-20th, nighttime
Summary: The Heroes of Light hide out at the ranch and wait for the mysterious animal kidnappers to appear.

[The excitement of Valentoine's Day has passed, and with more news about the UFOs, Duster brings his focus back to the planned stakeout. The night was chillier than any midnight stroll he experienced in Tazmily, and he wears a thick coat that only covered his body above the waist. He pulls his brown hat's earflaps down to better keep the warmth in.

The inside of the stable is warmer, but not by much. It's not much of a savior to Duster, who remains outside, keeping watch as long as he's awake. Staying up late is easy; all it took was fixing his sleep schedule the past few days to his old night owl tendencies.

He takes a seat on a pile of hay by the tables and waits.]

[There's an absent shrug from Lydia, but she's not stopping her petting. She kind of missed having a pet--even if Percy was as nervous and anxious as her dad. Poor Cat.]

Hopefully we can figure that out. I know farmers were concerned. The ones I visited also were surprised, and while they were kind, I think they didn't know what to do because of my age.

[She wasn't that young...the months had kind of flown by, and she was 15 now. Not a kid, even if she was due a growth-spurt for the last of puberty to hit.]

[Cloud starts to stay something but then quickly stops himself. It occurs to him that he doesn't know how old Lydia is and perhaps it's not the best plan to try to guess.]

It could be worse. Almost everyone from my world is from my future. I didn't know Yuffie back home but I don't think she's actually supposed to be older than me. And I was a year older than Tifa back home, not four years younger.

[It was dumb humor, but it helped to ease the nerves a bit.]

[Dumb humor maybe, but Lydia won't judge or comment.]

Different times then? Must make it complicated. Hopefully you're all still able to be friends despite it.

Most of us, yeah. Vincent is a little hard to read to be honest. [He chuckles and rubs the back of his neck in embarrassment.]

Sephiroth is a unique case, but Reno is also a lot more friendly to me than I think the others remember him too. I wonder why that is.

[Lydia doesn't know Vincent, or Reno. She does know at least one of those he mentioned.]

I don't think Sephiroth is hard to read, so much as he just keeps a lot to himself. He's private, and that's ok.

If we were back on Gaia he'd probably be even less accessible. ShinRa promoted him to the public was one of the big Heroes keeping everyone and their livelyhood safe, but you never saw him out in public.

[Cloud frowns, thinking things over.]

I'm still not sure how his fanclub always got those pictures of him.

[Ok, that made Lydia giggle. Poor Sephiroth--she couldn't tell whether he'd have been more uncomfortable, or awkwardly flattered, by a fanclub. The older Hero valued his privacy, but he also did value some attention.]

I'm amazed he put up with a fanclub...

I'm not sure if he ever met any of them directly. I don't know if any of the First Classes did. They must have had someone on the inside of ShinRa though.

But I think Sephiroth mostly just ignored that they were around.

[Cloud is quiet for a moment but then chuckles and rubs the back of his neck.]

I wound up joining Zack's fanclub too. I was one of the first members.

[Lydia was quiet for a moment, trying to remember what little she'd learned of the First Class soldiers, and Shin Ra. She'd been, understandably, focused on other things when Sephiroth had opened up to her about his own past and that an alternate version of himself will and has attempted to destroy the planet. She very much appreciated his privacy and trust in her, and was going to be worthy of it.]

I think it's not unlikely, given how corporations work, from a PR standpoint that they'd have their own insider and official 'clubs'. [Said after a long pause.]

It'd be like marketing right? To help promote new products. Not that they were products, these were PEOPLE--but you always try to hype your new thing and make a good impression on the public.

Probably. But it's one thing when they're trying to get you to buy a car or something and another when they want you to join their army. I know I wasn't the only kid who thought that this would be his chance to escape boring life in the country.

[Cloud smiles but it's a sad sort of smile. Like looking back on yourself from years ago.]

You'd move to the big city and thing I'll be a big hero just like them. And I'll get to fight by their side. And then of course you realize it's not going to be that way and you end up on guard duty...Still, I guess things worked out better for me than most of the others.

[Not just meeting Zack and getting his support, but being here in Crystallis let him have his dream of fighting alongside Sephiroth. And as an equal no less. Or at least closer than he'd ever be on Gaia.]
