Spring Cleaning! Spriiing Cleaning!
Characters: Barkeep and OPEN
Where: House A-08, Space Saloon
When: April 04-11, then whenever before the event
Summary: It may still be a little chilly, but it's due time for spring cleaning. Bother him whenever. Then, he goes back to work at the Space Saloon.
Warnings: Possible drunk times in the second prompt
A. April 4th - 11th, House A-08
The sun had risen over the rooftops of the surrounding homes, Ramza had gone off to work with a packed lunch - despite his protests that he had more than enough to eat at the station, Mordecai would hear none of that. Police work involved lots of running around, and he wouldn't let any amount of polite contrariness stop him. The days were getting warmer, and with the sun illuminating the inside of the house earlier and earlier each morning, the dust sitting everywhere became obvious to the trained eye.
When even was the last time he did a thorough cleaning of the house? This sort of thing could not stand. Mordecai slammed the mug of coffee onto the table and snatched a piece of paper from the stationary drawer.
"Annie! Get this letter down to the Space Saloon. Tell 'em to take over my shift today and tomorrow!" He paused his writing. "Actually, the whole week. I got a lotta work to do here."
The Moogle grumbled and refused to smile or even thank the barkeep even as she flew out of the house.
Mordecai substituted his battle robes for a familiar vest and a coat, filled a basin with water, and went to work on dusting the living room. Then his and Ramza's room (he had to remind the young man to reorganize the closet. bedsheets were taking outside, and with the aid of leather gloves, he scrubbed them on the washing board while he watched the residents of the neighborhood walk by. Mars was a cold planet, and despite the initial internal complaints, early spring in Aqures Ixen wasn't all that bad. Life was different when you didn't have access to luxuries like washing machines, and he could feel muscles growing in his arms after every laundry day. He will return home buffer and wiser, he comforted himself each time his arms ached.
The next day, he took the rugs out for a beating, washed the windows, and took the wooden chairs' cushions out for a cleaning. The couch was next...if he could get it out properly. Despite all the exercise from housework - though he was getting sore - he wasn't strong enough to lift a couch on his own. He stood in the doorway of his own house stroking his moustache and eyeing the piece of furniture like philosophy's next biggest dilemma.
The remaining days were slower, dedicated to organizing the pantry and cleaning out the entire kitchen cabinets. With the extra time, he decided to cook something nice for Ramza. Stew was a good meal, easy to watch over while he disinfected the sink.
A knock on the door caught his attention, and he dropped his rag before running to the door, wiping his hands on his apron.
"Evenin'," he automatically responded when he opened the door.
B. April 12th - 19th, Space Saloon.
The assistant bartenders sighed in relief when they saw the boss return. The saloon was a lot of young visitors celebrating the start of spring, but no broken tables or anything, really. The barkeep wasn't ready to take their word for it, but if they did their best, what could he do? It was another sunny day.
For the rest of the week, he took his regular position at the bar, tending to customers, checking through the books, and listening in on any new gossip. Behind his desk was a newly written story born out of recent interactions with Dr. Cid. There were some people he wanted to show it to.

B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
"Anyway, my father let it become a tourist resort. Wutai used to be a place of honorable mystique... before the Wutai War..." She signed heavily. "I was born shortly after or just around the end of it..."
Yuffie took a long sip of her drink. "I wish I could have seen it as it was before ShinRa came in. They invaded because they wanted to mine the planet of its Mako."
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
Royalty were relics of old times. Planets had presidents and prime ministers in his time. Were there still monarchies a thousand years ago?
"So what I'm guessin' is that Wutai was doin' pretty well until Shinra came. The economy tanked, your dad lost a lotta power, and how you're best known as a tourism country. Huh. Most tourist-y places we got are moons, and they started out that way." No civilization had ever originated a moon. But it did suck to be Yuffie.
"Your dad got any long-term economic plans?"
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
“Well do you know what war does to a nation? They spend years trying to recover and they are then under the control of those who won.” Which in this case was sadly ShinRa. “They made our economy tank so that they could control Wutai.”
Yuffie sighed taking a very long drink of her beer. “He’ll probably see that I marry someone who can bring stability or whatever the people of Wutai need…” She wasn’t looking forward to it. As bratty as Yuffie was she had always wanted to fall in love.
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
Those poor kids. It sure did send the Mars colonists a lesson on rebelling against the Earth government. He help up his mug. "To the future of your country."
After a swig from his own beer, the barkeep sighed and clanked the mug onto the counter. "But in that case, I can help you plan out a recovery. I may be only a mayor of a small town and some farms, but talkin' to representatives from other planets and moons got me some experience."
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
After a moment of listening to Barkeep she shook her head. “No, we have plans. Collectively anyway… short term is to fix up the buildings and heal the sick. Boosting moral among the family’s and those who’ve lost loved ones over the years. With ShinRa gone the whole planet is in a state of rebuilding itself so we don’t have to worry about attack from other nations as much as we do monster attacks and weird freaky shit happening.” She hated doing stuff just to make people happy, she thought it was stupid but at the same time she understood.
“Beside that I need to show them a future because right now they don’t feel like they have one. That’s why I need to get married and probably have a kid or something along those lines. Then rebuild relations with the surrounding nations… obviously during all that not after. I’ve offered to help Reeve so there is at least that relation that’s going well…”
Yuffie sighed and feeling her throat now dry she guzzled down what was left of her second beer. Which was a lot.
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
"But it's good that you're goin' out and talkin' to other countries in the meantime. Relationships between all these places is what'll help you out most in the future, get you some outside aid in rebuildin'. Mars itself never had troubles like yours while I was in power, but I did help with the Moon colony recoverin' from the aftereffects of dismantlin' the bloodsports, so there's that."
Cactoid Jim did a lot of the beginning word, but it was through others' help that humans on the Moon now had a relatively normal life.
B. April 13th, Space Saloon.
“Yeah. There aren’t many other powers since ShinRa reached all over the planet and then fell. We need to see who will rise up. I get the feeling that Reeve will be one of those people.” That guy always had dreams and was good at managing people.
Yuffie sighed. “I just can’t do anything about it here and then I realize anything I do here means nothing when I get home…” Except that Vincent, Tifa and everyone will be there.

"You still got some time before you can worry about Wutai's trouble, Yuffie. You gotta first get back and learn how thing've changed since you last were there. In the meantime," his retreated his hands to the wait-high counter hidden from the customer's view. "Deal with troubles on this planet, and get your mind offa things. You're gonna learn how to work with political problem here, and that experience is gonna help you once you get back."

She sighed softly before nodding. "I know but I have to deal with the going back to the house part before anything else. It's so awkward around Vincent now..." It didn't help that they lived together.
"I want to help, to stop the calamity and then go home. I think I can be a great princess because... I don't know. I hadn't thought about it but now I am..." Yuffie finished her beer and then pushed it away. She was done drinking for now.

"Sounds like you still gotta work on forgetting your troubles, and that beer's hitting the point of diminishin' returns. Why don't you take part of the entertainment here? Listen to music, talk a bit? Stayin' by your lonesome never works, trust me. I've seem too many folks think they don't need to socialize and fail to get over their problems."
Maybe Yuffie needed to see the fanfic. "So, how about I show you somethin' to cheer you up? Can't have to go home feelin' washed out as you are."
no subject
“Yeah but I think I’m better on my own.” She wouldn’t develop unhealthy relationships on her own. People wouldn’t just disappear and she could be pleasantly indifferent; though even as Yuffie says that she knows she wouldn’t be capable of being alone. She’d miss people.
“Or I might look into it.”
Her head canted to the side curiously. “What do you think will cheer me up?” Clearly beer wasn’t the answer because she’d tried that.

But she needed a lighter topic today. "You a fan of gossip, Yuffie? I know I am, and more than just the usual 'who's datin' who' topics. Like...what kinda persons does Cid think he is anyway? Acts like he's twice as old than he is. Never asked for his age, but I think I can fathom a good guess."
no subject
"I love gossip and I admit I haven't thought of Cid in that way." It was hard to think of him at all without being reminded of the man she knew on Gaia.
"Why? Have you started to guess?"
no subject
He must be one of those men that look older than they actually are.
"You got any guesses?"
no subject
Plus she knew that Cid was captured by the Empire for a while and being stuck in a cell without sunlight doesn't do a lot for your complexion.
"I'll go 53." Just to be higher.
no subject
"I think I'll keep mine just as it is. How much you wanna bet on it?"
no subject
Which meant that she didn't want to wager anything that she might not want to lose. "What about I buy you a drink." She smiled.
"How do you plan to find out his age?"
no subject

“Thanks Barkeep. It was nice talking to you.” Weird but nice and Yuffie was feeling a little bit better now. She was also thinking about Cid’s age which meant that she was thoroughly distracted. It would all catch up with her again, for now she could just be Yuffie.
