Event || Crystallis de Chocobo

Characters: All the Heroes of Light participating in the event.
Where: Chocobo Farm
When: The 16th of August.
Summary: One day after having received a letter from Biggs telling them to get a Chocobo, the Heroes of Light's Moogles will show them the way to the Chocobo Farm. There, the old man in charge of the place will explain to them how to capture their own Chocobos. This post is for all Chocobo related activities. Characters can start their own thread and engage in Chocobo activities, help each other, etc.

There will also be a thread for characters to question the Old Man and Moogle in charge of the farm, as well as another one for the Boss Battle against the Chocobo Eater. Please refer to the OOC Post for instructions on how to capture a Chocobo and what can be done with them. The specific content of the rewards will be posted once the event over.

BOSS BATTLE: Chocobo Eater

Upon arriving at the Chocobo Farm, the Heroes of Light will be greeted by the old man and his faithful Moogle (who seems to be at least as old as he is, if not more). The Chocobo Farm looks exactly as what one could expect of a farm dedicated to Chocobos: vast areas where Chocobos can run freely, enclosures and stables where both regular and professional racer Chocobos are kept and of course a house where the old man and his Moogle live. East of the farm is a cliff, not a very tall one, but certainly tall enough should one stumble and fall. Chocobos can be seen passing by the area, but they're too far and too fast to be captured.

Noticeably enough, the enclosure is empty. And the old man is quick to explain why: a Chocobo Eater has eaten what little Chocobos hadn't been sold yet! Thankfully, the creature isn't anywhere to be seen, so for the time being the Heroes of Light can hunt Chocobos without having to worry. The Moogle will give each Heroes of Light a Chocobo Lure, along with instructions on how to use it and explanations regarding the different types of Chocobos. Thanks to the Chocobo Lure, Chocobos running in the distance will now approach the characters... Hopefully they will be friendly Chocobos.

BOSS BATTLE: Chocobo Eater

[ After a while spent chasing Chocobos, characters may notice that both the wild and captured Chocobos are getting strangely agitated. Nearly as if they felt something dangerous was approaching, as if they were afraid for their lives.

While Wild Chocobos will desert the area without a second thought, Captured Chocobos won't run away. However, they will 'wark' a lot and try to drag their new friends away. ]

[ He decided on going along with the moogle to that place where the chocobo farm was only because walking did suck and it was better than never leaving the city. It was a weird trip since having so much open spaces of nothing was weird - the city he grew up only had open spaces long enough for a building to fall down into it. What wasn't overgrown by tropical plants was overgrown by people so seeing a city without any urban sprawl, decay and people living on top of roofs that were houses on top of other roofs was just plain crazy.

And now he was going to have to find a chocobo, but first thing was first. ]

What is a chocobo? [ So says the man dressed in leather, linen, a long white coat that doesn't quite hide all of his guns, and wearing shades over his eyes. ]

[ Cue a surprised stare from both the old man and the moogle. They look as if someone just asked them what is food, or something so common it's unthinkable someone wouldn't know. ]

You don't know what a Chocobo is, Kupo?

[urnotafraid]

We use cars or trains or airplanes to go places back home. [ He wanted a smoke so bad but Zal wasn't helping in finding that in the local stores. ]

[ The Moogle points at a Chocobo passing by in the distance. Not even asking what cars and trains are. ]

That's a Chocobo, Kupo! They're our friends and they help us get around quickly. Some people even have races and competitions with them, Kupo!

[urnotafraid]

[ That got a stare. That got a stare back at the moogle and then another stare at the bird. Sho slowly takes off his glasses because he thinks he is seeing things. And then he blurts out the first thing on his mind. ]

They're giant chickens? Like friend chicken chickens?

[melodiesnpcs]

[ Both the old man and Moogle reply at the same time. ]

They're not chickens, Kupo! [Then the old man continues.]They belong to the same family, but that would be like comparing a leopard to a cat lad.

[urnotafraid]

I've never seen anything like them before in my life, except in movies where people get their heads bit off. [ Cheap horror movies had filled in a lot of his nights when Kei had still been around. ]

People actually ride them and it's considered normal?

[melodiesnpcs]

Of course, why wouldn't it be considered normal?

[And the Moogle.] Also what's a movie, Kupo?

[Ib has been out here for a couple of hours now, trying to lure out a chocobo. She's about ready to give up when her moogle suddenly pipes up.]

There's one now, kupo! Ib, watch out! It's not alone, kupo...

[Monsters. Two Buer are flanking the chocobo on either side. Ib shrinks back.]

Wh- what should I do?

Fight them, kupo! You can win, Ib!

[They aren't strong monsters, but this is her first encounter. Maybe she could use a hand?]

Birds don't get that big anymore. [ Though there are tales about some jungle animals getting to dinosaur sized. ]

You've never seen a movie? It's kinda like a play but transportable and can be watched any where you're hooked up to the internet.

What's the internet, Kupo?

That's so weird.

A kind of communication system that uses electricity to send information and stuff all over the world. It was a big military thing ages ago but the biggest minds built it for science and engineers and then everyone has it.

It's kinda ancient history in Mallepa.

That sounds useless, Kupo. And it's not weird, it's normal for everyone here.

It's only useless cuz you've got moogles. We've never had them. Never had giant chickens either, except during the ancient past when they ran around eating people.

The place you come from sounds sad, Kupo.

It could be sad, but that can be said for all places.

So... how do you catch them again?

[melodiesnpcs]

You use the Chocobo Lure we gave you and then you capture them. We're old, Kupo! Don't make us repeat!

[ The old man then proceeds to repeat the explanation for the three different types of Chocobos. ]

... And don't forget never to attack a Chocobo.

[Sephiroth is half convinced at this point that his Lure crystal must be broken, or Spencer must not be using it correctly or something. He's taken a break to personally inspect the crystal they got given in case there might be something obviously wrong with it -]

Kupo! Look there's one! [Spencer flits higher into the air and points with a stubby paw in Ib's direction.]

[Not very long afterward, a Dragoon in a more Warrior-type purple/silver trimmed armor descends out of the sky - a long sword pinning one of the Buer instantly to the ground before Sephiroth leaps back and behind Ib some, inclining his head in a flash of shining silver towards the other Buer, for her to go ahead.]

[Whatever you're doing out in the forest, you suddenly hear a commotion coming from beyond the line of nearby trees. A few moments later, a yellow chocobo busts through, warking up a storm, flapping and running at full tilt and zigzagging all over the landscape. There's a rope around its neck, trailing behind it,dragging with it one tenacious cowboy. A moogle trails after them, grinning and giggling, wearing her partner's dropped hat.

After a lot of searching, Sparks has finally collared his chocobo. Kinda. It's clearly not happy this situation, but Sparks is too stubborn to give up. He's hanging on tight, but he's not getting anywhere like this. Of course, he's not asking, so once his moogle gets done laughing at his misfortune, she'll try to get your attention.]

Hey, kupo! Think you can help stop that thing?

Okay, this? This, right here? This is why Kaji shouldn't have been entrusted with the kid. Kaji had come out to help Ib, had been trying to see if he could find a smaller one of the birds for her. Sounded like something fun and relatively safe. He turns his back for five seconds (okay, it was actually a lot longer than that, let's be honest), and there are monsters.

"Ib!" He had equipped his Archer gear for the trip (although Shinji is still wearing the outfit's hat), and now he lifts the bow for the first time. Okay, everybody said that these skills are supposed to come naturally, let's see how this works.

[Sephiroth nods and takes the purple Lure crystal, looking over it briefly -so it really wasn't all that different to how it works back home- before crouching to hand it to Spencer who happily enough vanishes it into wherever it is that Moogles store all their items.]

Typical. [He comments of the Chocobo Eater. Not for once did he think anything simple he might be urged into wouldn't end up more complicated. Call him the eternal pessimist.

One thing strikes him though; why set up a Chocobo Farm where the livestock would be at constant risk of being eaten?]

This Chocobo Eater, it's a new threat? Or do they venture this way quite often?

[He asks of the Old Man specifically, since even though Moogles were veritable fountains of information in their own right, the Farmer had to know more of the trends?]

Ah, this region used to be a lot more frequented than it is today... Chocobo Eaters didn't dare coming too close back in time. And the few times they did, adventurers slayed them for a reward.

[ Then, when the old man is done speaking the Moogle finishes. ]

But lately, monsters have multiplied and there aren't enough people to drive them all back, Kupo!

Sephiroth: Chocobo hunting treasure seeking

"Kweeeeeeh!"

Out of all the friendly chocobo that might be lured in, this one had to be the most friendly. It was about time that the Chocobo Lure had actually produced some results, having combed the plains around the Farm back and forth for several hours already, but this wasn't exactly what Sephiroth had been expecting.

She had raised her head from some dewy shrubbery the moment Spencer had activated the crystal within her range, and curled her long agile neck around the tree blocking her from view. The sight of Sephiroth with his moogle flitting around at the tall mans shoulder height had rewarded curiosity at first, but after a few tense moments of eye contact and a few head tilts with blinks of beady eyes she puffed her breast out and proudly strode out from the outskirts of the forest.

Sephiroth had been expecting much more of a fight, or even a chase that he might have to go through to catch her. He was confident enough in the speed that his Dragoon job granted him after all. But as the proud, decided chocolina directly strode right up to him face on and simply stood before him confusion was an understatement. He even looked down to Spencer, who had come to rest by his feet though not in the way, silver bangs that framed his face obscuring the chocobo from view some as if the moogle might be able to explain-

Then a beaked head cooed amicably and was all of a sudden right up close into a light armored shoulder. Stunned only for a moment, expecting an attack of some sort, Sephiroth shrugged the big bird off once she started to nuzzle. She backed up only half a pace before trying again, determined that this was the Hero she had picked.

"I think she likes you, Kupo!"

Of course, leave it to Spencer to state the obvious; the chocobo wouldn't be deterred no matter how many times Sephiroth attempted to bat her head away. It really was a losing battle and eventually she began to duck her head around under his arm, as if playing with where she wanted to be petted. Trying to indicate that she wanted him to climb on but he wasn't having any of it.

Eventually, a chance tease of a peck at Sephiroth's gloved hand managed to hook it's beak around the plate of armor at his wrist and then tried to lead his attention back towards the treeline. Frowning even deeper, Sephiroth looked from Spencer -who was finding the whole thing immensely amusing- over to where the chocobo was trying to lead him.

"Dumb bird. What's wrong with you?" He muttered as she started to walk back towards the tree she had been grazing around. Sephiroth followed though; hoping that she might stop pining after him if he went to see what had been so important to the creature.
