Event || Crystallis de Chocobo
Characters: All the Heroes of Light participating in the event.
Where: Chocobo Farm
When: The 16th of August.
Summary: One day after having received a letter from Biggs telling them to get a Chocobo, the Heroes of Light's Moogles will show them the way to the Chocobo Farm. There, the old man in charge of the place will explain to them how to capture their own Chocobos. This post is for all Chocobo related activities. Characters can start their own thread and engage in Chocobo activities, help each other, etc.
There will also be a thread for characters to question the Old Man and Moogle in charge of the farm, as well as another one for the Boss Battle against the Chocobo Eater. Please refer to the OOC Post for instructions on how to capture a Chocobo and what can be done with them. The specific content of the rewards will be posted once the event over.
Warning: Boss Battle against a Chocobo Eater.
Old Man & Moogle Questions
BOSS BATTLE: Chocobo Eater
Upon arriving at the Chocobo Farm, the Heroes of Light will be greeted by the old man and his faithful Moogle (who seems to be at least as old as he is, if not more). The Chocobo Farm looks exactly as what one could expect of a farm dedicated to Chocobos: vast areas where Chocobos can run freely, enclosures and stables where both regular and professional racer Chocobos are kept and of course a house where the old man and his Moogle live. East of the farm is a cliff, not a very tall one, but certainly tall enough should one stumble and fall. Chocobos can be seen passing by the area, but they're too far and too fast to be captured.
Noticeably enough, the enclosure is empty. And the old man is quick to explain why: a Chocobo Eater has eaten what little Chocobos hadn't been sold yet! Thankfully, the creature isn't anywhere to be seen, so for the time being the Heroes of Light can hunt Chocobos without having to worry. The Moogle will give each Heroes of Light a Chocobo Lure, along with instructions on how to use it and explanations regarding the different types of Chocobos. Thanks to the Chocobo Lure, Chocobos running in the distance will now approach the characters... Hopefully they will be friendly Chocobos.

And now he was going to have to find a chocobo, but first thing was first. ]
What is a chocobo? [ So says the man dressed in leather, linen, a long white coat that doesn't quite hide all of his guns, and wearing shades over his eyes. ]

Typical. [He comments of the Chocobo Eater. Not for once did he think anything simple he might be urged into wouldn't end up more complicated. Call him the eternal pessimist.
One thing strikes him though; why set up a Chocobo Farm where the livestock would be at constant risk of being eaten?]
This Chocobo Eater, it's a new threat? Or do they venture this way quite often?
[He asks of the Old Man specifically, since even though Moogles were veritable fountains of information in their own right, the Farmer had to know more of the trends?]

BOSS BATTLE: Chocobo Eater
While Wild Chocobos will desert the area without a second thought, Captured Chocobos won't run away. However, they will 'wark' a lot and try to drag their new friends away. ]
BOSS BATTLE: Chocobo Eater
The purple chocobo brings it's head down and nudges at Zelda, trying to get her to move but only successes in knocking her to the ground. The movements around her became clear as a sinking feeling fills her stomach.
Her moogle, sporting his long green hat, flies over with a nervous wave.]
We should get out of here, kupo!
[Zelda tries to stand while also steadying her chocobo. She regards her moogles advice as good advice but it might already be too late. Worry and concern are evident in her voice as she replies back to Kupola.]

Ib
There's one now, kupo! Ib, watch out! It's not alone, kupo...
[Monsters. Two Buer are flanking the chocobo on either side. Ib shrinks back.]
Wh- what should I do?
Fight them, kupo! You can win, Ib!
[They aren't strong monsters, but this is her first encounter. Maybe she could use a hand?]

Kupo! Look there's one! [Spencer flits higher into the air and points with a stubby paw in Ib's direction.]
[Not very long afterward, a Dragoon in a more Warrior-type purple/silver trimmed armor descends out of the sky - a long sword pinning one of the Buer instantly to the ground before Sephiroth leaps back and behind Ib some, inclining his head in a flash of shining silver towards the other Buer, for her to go ahead.]

After a lot of searching, Sparks has finally collared his chocobo. Kinda. It's clearly not happy this situation, but Sparks is too stubborn to give up. He's hanging on tight, but he's not getting anywhere like this. Of course, he's not asking, so once his moogle gets done laughing at his misfortune, she'll try to get your attention.]

"That isn't funny, kupo!" Shinji is frowning at Kaji.
He holds up two fingers a space apart. "Little bit funny?"
Then Red comes over, and okay, guess it's showtime. Kaji rolls up his sleeves, and lightly jogs over towards where the chocobo is zig-zagging. It's almost going on a circuit, so maybe if Kaji waits for it to get close, then tries to grab the rope, too.....

Sephiroth: Chocobo hunting treasure seeking
Out of all the friendly chocobo that might be lured in, this one had to be the most friendly. It was about time that the Chocobo Lure had actually produced some results, having combed the plains around the Farm back and forth for several hours already, but this wasn't exactly what Sephiroth had been expecting.
She had raised her head from some dewy shrubbery the moment Spencer had activated the crystal within her range, and curled her long agile neck around the tree blocking her from view. The sight of Sephiroth with his moogle flitting around at the tall mans shoulder height had rewarded curiosity at first, but after a few tense moments of eye contact and a few head tilts with blinks of beady eyes she puffed her breast out and proudly strode out from the outskirts of the forest.
Sephiroth had been expecting much more of a fight, or even a chase that he might have to go through to catch her. He was confident enough in the speed that his Dragoon job granted him after all. But as the proud, decided chocolina directly strode right up to him face on and simply stood before him confusion was an understatement. He even looked down to Spencer, who had come to rest by his feet though not in the way, silver bangs that framed his face obscuring the chocobo from view some as if the moogle might be able to explain-
Then a beaked head cooed amicably and was all of a sudden right up close into a light armored shoulder. Stunned only for a moment, expecting an attack of some sort, Sephiroth shrugged the big bird off once she started to nuzzle. She backed up only half a pace before trying again, determined that this was the Hero she had picked.
"I think she likes you, Kupo!"
Of course, leave it to Spencer to state the obvious; the chocobo wouldn't be deterred no matter how many times Sephiroth attempted to bat her head away. It really was a losing battle and eventually she began to duck her head around under his arm, as if playing with where she wanted to be petted. Trying to indicate that she wanted him to climb on but he wasn't having any of it.
Eventually, a chance tease of a peck at Sephiroth's gloved hand managed to hook it's beak around the plate of armor at his wrist and then tried to lead his attention back towards the treeline. Frowning even deeper, Sephiroth looked from Spencer -who was finding the whole thing immensely amusing- over to where the chocobo was trying to lead him.
"Dumb bird. What's wrong with you?" He muttered as she started to walk back towards the tree she had been grazing around. Sephiroth followed though; hoping that she might stop pining after him if he went to see what had been so important to the creature.

With the lure in hand, he gave a look at it. From under the brush, a white feathery head popped up with dark eyes that depicted a young chocobo, no less than a year amd no more than two. She was a bit larger than some of the others he had seen around and Mogington screeched. "She's too big, kupo!"
The bird ducked her head shyly as if she felt those words, but Angeal lifted his hand and placed it under her beak with a smile. "She's perfect. Don't mind him. Everything is too big. He's a moogle, right?"
The chocobo lifted her head quickly and jumped with her wings flapping and kwehing with glee. Mogington huffed and looked off to the side. "I resent that, kupo."
"But it's the truth. You are a moogle, or are you a malboro in disguise?" Angeal smirked. At that moment, the chocobo pushed her head against his shoulder. She hadn't stepped out of the brush just yet and Angeal hadn't stepped back to give her room. He was busy with his new friend to care about the worries that had plagued him before.
The white chocobo pushed once more with a soft chirp. This time she wanted to get out of the brush and for good reason. She turned her head toward another chocobo off in the distance and Angeal followed her gaze. Mogington looked from Angeal to Sephiroth and back. "Aren't you...wanting to patch things up with him, kupo?" He said in an almost sad tone as if the mix-up had caused a rift between them.
Angeal shook his head and looked away. "I've done enough."
He turned his attention toward the chocobo once more and canted his head. She hopped out from behind the bushes and indeed she was considerably larger than her chocobo brothers and sisters. She flapped her wings and gave a shake to loosen the burrs that had clung to her through her traipsing about in the woods along with a few kupo nuts that were trapped in her feathers.
Mogington was happy to see the dropped gift and quickly scooped up the discarded prizes. "I like her, kupo!"
Angeal chuckled and stroked her feathers. "I have the perfect name for you. I'll call you Demeter."
The chocobo didn't really seem to mind the name but Mogington had other ideas. "Kupo, what does it mean?" His stubby arms held the nuts close to his chest with one spilling out. He scrambled to catch it.
Demeter turned her head toward Sephiroth's chocobo with a kweh and took off running just as Angeal was preparing to mount her for a ride which turned out to a graceless trip flat onto his back. Mogington giggled at the sight.

Fortunately, the chocobo the lure attracted seemed like an ideal specimen of a chocobo for her criteria. Unfortunately, it looked like she would have to show it who's boss. Or maybe that was also fortunate. That meant it was a chocobo worth capturing.
"Now how am I going to get on it?" Zojja wondered out loud.
"Remember to not accidentally kill it, kupo," Kupu said.
"What made you think I was going to kill it?"
She asked that innocently, but she had to consciously lower the amount of power she was pouring into the Thunder spell in her hand.

And speaking of things that were sharp and prickly. The charr's aimed musings led him to notice a familiar set of ears. Zojja seemed to be preoccupied with something, and it didn't appear appreciably humane.
"Tell me, friend, does the idea of animal husbandry exist among your people?" he approached with a jovial voice, buffing his coat out of habit. What good it did with this roguish outfit.
"Or do you just build your proverbial work dolyaks into subservience."

Zelda: Happy Chocobo Adventures
Once she walked a comfortable distance she asked Kupola to activate the lure. She didn't know what to expect but seconds later a purple chocobo appeared, soaring into view. "Kweeh!" It stopped short of them tilting its head to the side curiously. Zelda stood with her arms behind her back and a happy smile, her white dress blowing in the soft breeze. The Chocobo approached and after a few steps stopped again. "Kweeh" its head rose in the air and it ruffled its feathers.
Zelda didn't move and her moogle positioned him behind her, trying not to get in the way. The little snowball of a moogle already approved of the purple Chocobo. When the Chocobo was closer Zelda held out one hand and stared up into the birds eyes. It was a gentle bird and she already felt their bond growing. "Kweeh" The bird walked towards its hero's hand and lightly brushed against it. Zelda moved a step closer and scratched the bird under the neck to say hello. Zelda beamed as the Chocobo approved of her affection. "Kweeh!!"
After a few moments the Chocobo jumped up into the air, flapping its wings with excitement. "Kweeeeh!" Once its feet were firmly planted back on the ground it nudged happily at Zelda's shoulder.
"Where do you want to go?" She asked the Chocobo before letting it push her towards its destination. Kupola was happy to watch and flew behind the pair with a joyful flutter.

Oh, and it's Zelda. Let's see if he can get through this exchange without getting attacked by the moogle, this time. He shoots his best attempt at a charming smile at her, and nods his head. "Morning. Or, I guess, it's closer to afternoon now."

It took a few hours of walking before Azmogriouos stopped and signaled to Henry that they had arrived at a suitable location by spitting a huge wad of Mogchaw on the ground. Henry danced excitedly as Azmogrious retrieved and activated the crystal. A few minutes passed before the shrub rattled. A staccato "Kweh" emerged from the bush, followed shortly by a Chocobo, eying Henry and his companion suspiciously.
"Hi Mr.Chocobo! I'm Henry. What's up?"
"Kweh?" The chocobo replied, slightly confused.
"That's cool. I was wondering, would you like to travel with me? I'm supposed to be a hero."
"Wark?" The chocobo responsed, looking around for someone that the man must be talking to. Whatever, there was a way to deal with this. The bird said a firm "Kweh" over it's shoulder. Two goblins emerged from the bush, grinning and bearing knives.
"Oh!" Henry said excitedly, drawing his sword "You brought friends too! That's great! I think a good friendship starts by sharing hobbies"

He has his Archer gear equipped, and he draws his bow on the move, gets closer to Henry, before he stops in a firing position and nocks his first arrow. "What the hell are those things!?" he shouts over, both for information, and to let Henry know that he has some backup.

"Sometimes, but they usually make their presence known, kupo."
"Well, this one didn't and-OH!"
She felt a sharp poke at her backside followed by her bag shifting. After jumping and feeling rather violated by that, she turned to give the man a piece of her mind and stopped short. Tall, but lanky crimson chocobo was quite happily settling down and chewing at her apple. She blinked at it, frowning, and shared a look with Monty.
"...I thought they liked Gyshal Greens..."
"Kupo, they can eat other things though! Looks like this one likes apples, just like you!" Monty laughed. She huffed and glared at her moogle.
The moogle didn't stop and Genesis stepped forward and knelt down by the chocobo. "You should ask before taking these, you know." The chocobo busily swallowed the apple whole and with a "Kweh!" hopped up and danced about her, poking at her bag. She couldn't help but chuckle, holding her hands out to rest on its beak to settle it down.
"I'm afraid you ate all my food, thief. Tell you what, you come with me, and I'll give you more apples, what do you say?"
The chocobo gave a hearty "Kweh!" and flapped its little wings. "Now, what to call you..."
"It's a girl, kupo!" Well, that helped things a bit. She smiled then. "How about Banora?"
Banora seemed quite happy with that, resting her head on Genesis' shoulder. Her stomach growled then and she pouted. "I really wish you hadn't eaten my apples, Banora."
"Wark?"
no subject
He chuckled at the sight but then realized that something was wrong when he heard that she was missing a few things.
"Is there something wrong?" He asked in hopes that she wasn't upset at him from the botched meeting they had just a few days prior.
He had food to spare should she need it, but his bag contained mostly vegetables, breads and greens for the chocobo in case they had to extend their stay. It wasn't as if he couldn't hunt or fish or find anything just in case they needed more. Then he noticed that Genesis' chocobo was a little on the greedy side and he laughed.
Demeter lifted her head from behind Angeal and chirped with a flap of her wings. She stood a head taller than the standard chocobo was a little on the heavier side from her muscle mass. She was definitely a tank of a bird just like her handler.

Chocobattle
Besides the obvious points anyway.
"Ahhhh, Kupo~ We'll have the Airship passes soon. I don't see why you're insisting on getting a Chocobo, Kupo." Mako drifted lazily along behind Cloud, paws behind his head as he griped about their hunt. Cloud was not going to give him the satisfaction of telling him about his motion sickness issues. If he was going to travel, bird was preferable to anything with an engine.
Kweh~
Cloud raised his hand, telling the Moogle to be silent. Mako gave a little indignant huff, but he obeyed. Creeping in the direction of the familiar sound, Cloud peered around some trees to spot a Chocobo nibbling on some grass in the clearing beyond. He held up the crystal he was given, using it as instructed to lure the bird over.
The Chocobo reacted to it as promised, stopping its eating and looking around to see where the sound was coming from...but then Cloud got more than he bargained for. The foliage around the bird rustled and a few monsters emerged, also looking for the source of the noise. Damnit, why couldn't things ever be easy?
no subject
The trip out to the farm did make for a good opportunity to get a feel of the general landscape of this new world that he was in, and an idea of what exactly he'd be up against monsters-wise. He'd been following a group of them at a distance for a few minutes now, just watching to see where they went and how they went about their monster business, when they suddenly took off at a run at the sound of a distant Kweh!
Snow immediately sped up and ran after them. While he wasn't exactly in the business of capturing a chocobo, he didn't want to see one of the things get eaten, either. As he emerged from the brush, though, he quickly came to realize that the chocobo wasn't the only thing in the direct line of fire. There was another Hero here, too.
"Whoa!"
He circle-strafed the group of monsters as best he could in order to reach his new companion, trying to pull as much attention to himself as possible as he moved. If there was one thing that Snow knew for a fact that he was extremely good at, it was taking hits while other people dished out the damage.
"What do you say we even these odds?" It was more of a declaration than a question and came fully loaded with a half-cocked grin. Maybe he'd been itching for a good fight more than he thought.

So imagine his surprise when a lanky blue chocobo came trotting up to him even before he finished asking about the lure being on. He stared at the bird. The bird stared back and, in a manner that Genesis thought was a bit like the chocobo was laughing, leaned in to tap him on the forehead with its beak.
"Stop that," he said, waving at the bird, and got an answering kweh in response and another tap, but this time on the head. The chocobo then nibbled on a bit of his hair and started trying to tug him into a new direction.
"You must be another mother hen," he grumbled and got an answering nod and another poke. Genesis studied the light blue chocobo for a moment, put his hands on his hips to huff and watched as the chocobo tried to mimic his pose before making a sound like laughter in a weird bird-like way. For the first time in days, he actually felt a little like smiling.
"I suppose it does look a bit childish. Very well, you shall be Aoi."
no subject
She was atop her purple Chocobo as her eyes landed on the pair. It was the first time that she had seen a light blue chocobo so she wandered over to take a closer look. Her Chocobo let out a happy kweeh as a greeting which also alerted them to their presence.
She put on a happy smile as her Chocobo trotted forward. "Hey." She noticed the Chocobo's pushy behavior and tilted her head to the side curiously. "You on your way to find treasure then?"

Hunting for the Chocobo Eater (serious backtagging, also kind of a joint thread thing)
So, he and Gaara had managed to obtain a chocobo friend -- as Luke called him, and are now searching for the apparent threat. Of course Luke's jumping to the idea of defeating this creature, and he'll have no problem killing it to help these guys out.
So, now, Luke and his fellow redhead can be found in the midst of their searching. Luke's off by himself, at the moment, green eyes steadily searching the area. He's, of course, searching for anything that could point him in the direction of that chocobo-eating monster. Ion's doing what he can to help. Luke's assuming that feathers are a clue to start with...unless the monster makes it a point to eat even those? D-doubtful, right?
Right now, he's finding the lack of hints frustrating.]
no subject
Only… this monster is threatening their mode of transportation. Luke seems to think fondly of it, as a pet… or perhaps more. And if he is going to rush off and try to defeat this monster alone, then of course Gaara won’t let him do something so brash and stupid.
He has considered riding the chocobo out and using it as bait, but decided against it, at the last minute. It would be foolish to risk losing the chocobo to the monster. They could simply capture another one, but that would take up additional time and resources. While Gaara searches for the other redhead on foot, Karura is flying around, trying to help locate him or Ion.]
