Nanami wasn't going to mention the fact she was also an Illusionist. She didn't kill any of these people, after all.

"Did anyone else see the footprints?" Nanami asked. "On the roof, near where Jack..."

Nanami knew Heroes came back. But that didn't mean she liked thinking about it. "... fell off. They looked funny, I thought. Not like 'these are Moogle tracks, not human', but... funny."

While they're still tossing out theories, Chiaki's got one. And one that apparently makes her pretty uncomfortable, judging by the look on her face. She's usually able to discuss things fairly calmly and without betraying much emotion, so there is definitely something bothering her about all of this.

"...Have we considered that there might be a mastermind behind the individual murders? Someone handing out orders, or who's found a way to either control people or talk them into it?"

There's a pregnant pause as she chews over her next question. It will seem very strange to anyone she hasn't told about her pre-Crystallis history.

"And just for the record, no one's seen a black and white robotic bear walking around since all of this started, right?"

Chiaki gets a double-take. "No bears, but keep going on the idea of a mastermind. No one job fits all the bills, so what if there's more than one person doing the killings? Someone keeping them organized?"

Miss Kiryuu, a school-mate of sorts to Ib. Kaji leans in closer. "Footprints? So they looked human, not like paws or...hooves?"

He glances at Twilight. There's another ability that could knock off a Dragoon from any height and move heavy crystal statues: telekinesis. Like what the ponies have exhibited before. But, again, let's listen to the kid before we jump to conclusions.

Aaaand she's going to glance back at you, Kaji. And cock an eyebrow at you. Yes, she is seriously thinking that you're thinking she or her brother could have done such a thing.

"Mind control can't be ruled out, either."

Sephiroth had been late to this meeting just as much as he'd been late in getting involved with the investigation; indeed it had only been after learning about the news during his routine check-in that it was clear to him at least that they were dealing with something a lot more serious than the first couple of murders might have otherwise suggested.

That said, he's a soldier not a detective so had sit in silence with his arms folded, occasionally searching out one of the various files to read -or re-skim over- as theory after theory was voiced. He didn't like how much of it seemed to be going on guess-work as opposed to being supported by hard-evidence.

"Baring in mind our running track-record in regards to others using Black Crystals to strip Heroes of their free will." He did indeed count himself among that number, though there were less of them here now that remembered that first Night of the Thirteen Moogles; or at least he hoped less people had tooth-combed through his personal file than he feared.

"Perhaps we should be looking at this-" Sephiroth shrugged one-handed towards any of those in the room that might listen. "-from a different perspective. Aside from the clear fact this is an attack on Heroes of Light, what else do our victims have in common? Is there any correlation between them and the citizens that were also found murdered at two of these scenes?"

"Mind control? Is such a thing possible?" Ales grew worried for the first time during the meeting. If this were the case, none nm of the culprits would have a motive apart from being a Hero of Light. That the culprit would have no idea that they did anything wrong.

Ales could be mind controlled to do worse things than murder.

"W-well then," he coughed and straightened up. He wasn't going to let the worry show. "There isn't any, apart from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I believe they wanted to strike some fear into the hearts of the populace."

"In… October, something like that happened," K'pandolu interjected, frowning, thinking of the Night of the Thirteen Moogles she'd seen. "I don't believe it could be exactly the same thing again, but perhaps we should table it as a possibility. If we think about it- it's a good way to cover one's own tracks, isn't it? It might go some way towards explaining the differences between the deaths."

She hummed. "If it's simply the location, then that's not much use… Unless- I don't suppose the locations were particularly important in and of themselves? Before this."

"...and it wasn't an isolated incident." Sephiroth hoped that he didn't need to go on at length, but it did seem that time and time again Heroes had some manner of control taken or exerted over them. Whether it be by direct mind control, or transporting them to other instances of time and/or space.

He was glad that K'pandolu interjected, taking it as perhaps a reason to stand up straighter himself. So long as the idea was tabled, that was surely enough of a contribution?

"Whereabouts is the crime scene for the second murder?" He hadn't gotten that far, himself yet. "The 11th District is also a residential area; which only further indicates that the culprit, or indeed culprits, are suggested to be involved with the Heroes of Light. Whether the mastermind behind all of this is, however, remains to be seen."

Right. The Night of the Giant Marshmallow. "And the year before that, we had Heroes grow powerful and turn against us, but that was because Mograma was the mastermind." He turned to Sephiroth, who was the main point of contact with that Moogle. "He's in prison at the moment, so it can't be the same sort of dark magic used before. I doubt the Moogles are behind this as well."
shinrasfinest: (Confused)

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2016-06-25 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He was also one of those who had grown all-powerful and been turned against them. Anyone could have read such recently but Sephiroth is glad that Ales didn't feel the need to underline that fact.

It may or may not have been one of the reasons he'd applied for military service, also.

"Hm." No comment about Mograma, or whether Moogles may or may not be involved. It certainly didn't have their usual 'flavor' about it but they'd all been wrong before.

K'pandolu nodded, with a hum. "So it's reasonable to assume we can rule any moogles out," she said. "And this doesn't seem to be at the same level of those incidents…"

She shook her head, ears flicking back. "It's hard to say whether that's actually what happened without more details," she allowed, and swallowed. "But… if we were to keep it as a theory, maybe there's another way of controlling people."

It wasn't so much a snap of the fingers, a lightbulb suddenly turning on in his mind, but as K'pandolu in essence reflects his thought processes without knowing it Sephiroth's keen intellect is quick to take the next step. While deep in thought, turning those possible Jobs around in his mind-

A brief, but sharp intake of breath followed Sephiroth seeming to perk up, immediately banishing whatever other thoughts he had going on, back a few notches.

"But there is." He blinked and looked between Ales and K'pandolu a few times, while at the same time keeping his attention open for anyone else who might want to chime in. While he sat on a particular hot-potato of a thought, it still required composure to be retained.

"A Maxed Illusionist Job does seem to have some of the skills that could be applied thus far in a myriad of ways. But what of Overlord-" Sephiroth paused, should anyone wish to interject-

"-I've no experience of it myself, but a Maxed Dark Knight alongside that does open up the possibility of controlling others. Corruption, I believe the skill is called."

Where Jack died. To think that was difficult to say was a strange notion to Ales. He hadn't seen the scene of the crime, but he wouldn't think it was that traumatizing.

"Funny how? Do they show where the killer went?"

"I'm afraid the footprints didn't give us a lead," Saori said. She leaned in closer. "Though I did find something odd about them. It was like that person has some difficulties walking from what I could tell."

"That could be very important. A Hero with Illusionist powers could disguise their appearance, but their natural movements would be harder to mask." He frowned, once again trying to remember all the Illusionists he knew of. Ramza was becoming more and more convinced that the killer had made use of the Illusionist skillset to commit the murders and then move the bodies.

"I think the truth lies in the details of these crimes, not in who may or may not have appeared to be there."
umslay: (thinking)

[personal profile] umslay 2016-06-22 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's true, but can an Illusionist push a man off a building and break another's neck?" Unless they could break bones with their mind. That was a scary thought. "One could appear right behind Jack and scare him enough that he falls off, but I believe that and Illusionist is not responsible for the murders of Jack and Santa."

That...didn't remove the non-physical combatants for that suspect list.

"But now I'm certain one did move the bodies of Rukia, Reno, and Malik...We need a list of Illusionists in the city." He turned his gaze to Saori and Sparks, the local enforcers who weren't Ramza. "Can you do a quick round-up of Heroes and bring them for questioning, or is that out of your power?"

"It's worth a shot. Unfortunately we might have to rely on others being honest about possessing the Illusionist job. The only personal files we would have were the ones we found a while back but I don't believe they listed which jobs they have."

She looked over at Sparks since he was her superior. Chances were the higher ups would listen to him over her unless she could bribe them with food but time was of the essence.
