Event || Cluedo

When: 15th June - 30th June.
Summary: Catch-all log for the Cluedo Event. If you would like to pursue investigations and play out the fall-out of the Cluedo events, this is the post for you. Please refer to the second OOC Post for the setting and what there is to be played. Another Log will be posted at a later date to play the murders.

Jack holds Sparks' gaze to see his reaction to that idea, and he is impossibly grateful that Sparks has a brief moment of sympathy, but breezes past it instead of asking for more details.

"I could ask Jade, if it didn't happen to him, then it's not something to be concerned about. He seems the least likely to get upset at a question like that. And if it is some side effect of regaining some of my powers from home? He was working in the lab at the same time, he'd understand what it means."

But then Sparks brings up the question of who is getting killed. "I'm thinking they're taking victims of opportunity. Sure, they're trying to kill as many of us as possible, draw in some civilians to make us look as bad as possible. But, if you were gonna try to make the civilians afraid, specifically? Some of the targets might be different. Why me? Not too many people know who I am, outside of the Heroes."

"Why not go for the public figures? The shopkeepers, like Erika or Ed? Or the Blitzball team's new star striker, Pyrrha? Or, frankly," Jack raises a hand at Sparks, himself. "The guy that just about everybody in the city knows, whether they know your name or not? You're too hard to get to."

While he doesn't like the idea of being a target, Jack has a point. Sparks mulled it over for a moment with a sip of coffee.

"Cuz they're tryin' to get under the skin of the rest of us. Why knock us off at all, when we just come back in a week? Other than to prove you could do it, 'n send the rest of us scramblin'."

He shook his head. It seemed all too purposeful to him.

"If it's just opportunity, why let Kidd get away twice? She's been there for two of crimes now."

Jack exaggeratedly shrugs. "That, I dunno. Kidd's a good target for us to look at, he's off on his own a lot, or doing things where nobody can keep an eye on him. If you're gonna try to frame anybody who we might not all trust? He's a good choice."

Jack taps himself on the chest. "I trust him. And this is way too deliberate for it to actually be him. If James Kidd were gonna suddenly start bumping us off, he'd be less sloppy about it."

"Something I brought up to Duster," Jack scratches at the back of his head. "And this is the most disturbing thought of all, but I've got to say it out loud. The victims are all targets of opportunity, what if the killers are, too? Somebody being manipulated into this? If it were somebody like Sephiroth or, hell, Kidd, then this makes some damn sense. But right now? Nothing. Aside from all being Heroes of Light? There's no reason, unless I'm missing something."

"Kidd's had to have seen something though. He was talkin' with that Santa kid right as you were killed. Santa was killed only moments later."

Sparks isn't so trusting of Kidd, but until he's brought in for questioning, he was as innocent as everyone else.

"Manipulated how. Magic? Is that sorta thing traceable? How can we know for sure?"

It sounded far too iffy to the marshal.

For a moment, Jack's face matches Sparks' because this is ridiculous. But. Maybe there is a way that there can be a trace.

"What do we got? Illusionists and psychics? Manipulation can be as simple as making you see something you don't. It could be full-blown mind control, sure. But an even easier way to make me dead would be to make somebody think I look like a monster, something that a Hero would kill without asking questions."

"But can we trace it?" Jack stands up from the seat. "I can gather some people with those jobs, run some tests in the Crystal Laboratory. I can probably get you an answer to that question, if nothing else."

Sparks looks frustrated, and a little embarrassed. He's been on Crystallis for almost 2 years now, but he still didn't really understand magic at all.

"Um. Yeah, like, it's all magic stuff, so maybe there's like... a power signature? I mean, it takes energy to use, so..."

He gives a quick shrug after a moment. That's all he has in reference to that.
