It was an option, if Ophelia (and Spencer since she was clinging and comforting him too) wanted it. As it was, they were curled leaning against the red fabric with the metal of his gauntlet-covered left-arm supporting them. It wasn't as if Ophelia hadn't hidden behind her hero before on occasion--she appreciated the cloak and mantle for that. (Also appreciated that he let her, so she tried to not abuse it.)

Vincent had known, theoretically, that if he 'died' while on Crystallis he would come back to life after a week. He hadn't behaved any differently because of it though. Then there were the other group of Heroes, those who'd finally joined up with the rest at Mysidia. They'd been used to the idea of death being permanent far before this latest development.
No; Vincent had long ago in his life made peace with the fact that his missions and life always brought the risk of death. There were worse things than dying, and he'd experienced a few of those already. Death held no fear for him--only the regret of unfinished business.
