To Esdham!
WHO: Rukia Kuchiki, OPEN
WHAT: Rukia makes a trip to Esdham for multiple purposes, the least of which is to deliver a beautifully illustrated report of the past month's summary. You might find it useful if you got lost in the last event. You might not. The post is for the report itself, but feel free to tag in for CR on the way there, on the way back, or while in Esdham itself.
WHEN: September 5th - 7th
WHERE: Esdham
As you were already made aware, the Tarutaru Palitutu, formerly known as Jessie, sent an ultimatum to the Heroes of Light requesting a meeting on the Calm Plains. If they did not appear, she threatened she would destroy the city of Aqures Ixen. We went to meet her as requested, and as promised she appeared with the Moogle Artemicion and the Heran known as Deweg. Upon arrival she asked if the Heroes of Light had discovered an alternative to defeating the Calamity that had not been previously attempted by former generations of Heroes. She claimed that our attempt to communicate with the Calamity through the Avatars had merit. She claimed that we needed these three things:
1. To improve and perfect the Soul Divider, located in the First Crystal.
2. To control the fragment of the Calamity that lingers within all Heroes summoned to this world.
3. The power to face Garland.
To test us, she attacked with the Ultima Weapon.

We were called upon to use our strongest attacks and abilities. Though some perished, it was only temporarily, and no casualties were suffered. As for Deweg's status, we cannot confirm it at this time.
Directly after the defeat of the Ultima Weapon, Palitutu banished us to the Rift, where we were able to gain access to our home worlds. It took the entirety of the month, and though many did find their way to their home worlds, we were not able to locate Palitutu until the very end of August. Accompanied by Artemicion, she informed us that she would consider us too weak to do what needed to be done unless we managed to kill her.
The ensuing battle was short, and we did come very close to ending her life. Though it was heavily considered to let her die, and heatedly debated, in the end we decided it was best to keep her alive for the time being so long as we had a way to prevent her from simply teleporting away to resume her previous crimes.

Artemicion is, as far as I am aware, currently incarcerated while Palitutu remains in critical condition at the hospital. Her fate is to be decided at a later time, presumably by the current regent Cid, but possibly by the Heroes should he defer the decision to us. In the aftermath of the battle, a gold crystal was given to us by Palitutu, which is being used to slow the progress of the Calamity and buy us more time to accomplish our objectives.
We apologize for the length of our absence and, after sufficient rest, we are ready to resume our duties to halting the crystallization of this world and saving those worlds from which we hail.

[International pop sensations? How does Lailah know that term and not karaoke? Rukia isn't even sure what qualifies as an international pop sensation.]
I'm not sure if they have it here. And they might not have any songs that we recognize. But I'm sure we'll find something interesting if we keep our eyes and ears open.
no subject
[Lailah beams.]
What kind of music do soul reapers listen to? I suppose it's a bit much to expect you to be well versed in funerary tunes?
no subject
[Her expression flattens. Is that really how soul reapers are perceived, as gloomy and sad and completely consumed with all aspects of death? Perhaps that's the case on other worlds, but certainly not on hers.]
Our music range depends on what is remembered during our time spent in the living world, I suppose. As a result, there are some songs that are very old while others are rather new. Certainly there are music composers who were born in Soul Society, but I can't say I'm acquainted with any.
[She folds her arms, working out the kinks in her neck as she moves her head from one side to the other.]
In any case, I have no intention of singing any eulogies tonight. We should be enjoying ourselves, not mourning the dead.
no subject
I apologize if it was a morbid thought. It's just... the reason I ask is because my companion, Zaveid was recently crystallized. We went on two dates, but now I'll never know what could have been. Then there were other companions, such as Sorey and Rose, who I got to see again, and who wanted to come with us to Crystallis... but couldn't. I just can't help but wonder if they were caught into the Void. I don't know how I could honor them or their memories, but at the same time, it almost feels wrong for me to be able to enjoy myself freely when they're not here with me.
... but you're right. Let's go, Rukia.
[she forces a smile.]

[Rather than turning, she settles her hands on her hips and lowers her head with a quiet exhale of breath.]
Forgive me. I wasn't aware of your troubles.
[She lifts her head and gazes down the street for a moment.]
Perhaps we should choose somewhere a bit more quiet, so we can sit down and talk. It seems like you have a great deal on your mind at the moment.
[Rukia jerks her head a little toward the shops.]
I'll buy your dessert. It's the least I can do for being so insensitive.
no subject
Oh, no, you weren't insensitive at all! I've just been told that I tend to carry things without speaking my mind, so I thought I'd take a gamble and share that with you.
[She looks at the shops, and back to Rukia as her folds her hands in front of her once more.]
We're on a trip, so let's enjoy ourselves! There's always more time to talk when he get back to Aqures Ixen, after all.
[She smiles]
I'll take you up on your offer though after our throats are raw from singing, though!
no subject
[Rukia smiles, finding it strangely comforting to have this in common with someone else. Moreover, she's rather touched that Lailah chose to share this with her. That trust warms her heart, and inspires a desire to protect that trust at all costs.]
Well, if that's what you wish, I don't see why we shouldn't indulge.
[She chuckles as she bows her head, loosely holding her elbows.]
But if you should ever need to speak your mind, I would be more than happy to listen.
[Rukia takes a step toward the street, her gentle smile turning into a playful grin.]
But it will be difficult to have deep and meaningful conversations if our throats are too raw. Let's practice at least some degree of moderation.
no subject
[But she smiles. Lailah was usually the one having to play Party Mom, so it was refreshing that someone else wanted to do the same for her.]

[She shuffles quickly back to their table, a little red-faced.]
I don't think I'm qualified to be a professional pop star.
[Picking up her drink, she sips, then smiles at Lailah.]
You're quite good, however! Do you enjoy singing?
no subject
[She usually sings a silly song to make sure nobody asks her any more questions.]
I just sang the words as they appeared on the sheet! Easy peasy!
And besides, it's for fun!
[She takes a sip of her girly, fruity drink]
You did quite well! You kept the rhythm very steady.

[Rukia, meanwhile, is nursing an ice water. A lady that small doesn't hold her liquor well, as she's learned before. ...It has a lemon in the glass at least? Very daring. She chuckles at the compliment, then inclines her head.]
Thank you. I'm afraid it's the only song I know here. I haven't really had many occasions to practice singing, as I'm sure it showed.
no subject
Why not try singing the song I sang? You already heard it, and here are the lyrics.
no subject
[She does know one song from home, and she's actually not a terrible singer. But it would be too embarrassing to sing it a capella.]
I'd rather talk, if you feel up to it. There's still much I don't yet know about you.
why does rukia have tokunaga
[Lailah isn't used to this. Mostly because while people did ask her about her past, her oath kept her from talking about it. But her oath meant nothing here.]
Well, then. Ask away!
no subject
[But how is she supposed to phrase it?]
Have you loved someone before? In the romantic sense. I know you said that you and Zaveid were growing close, but were there any others prior to that?
no subject
[Lailah takes a gulp of drink. Oops, was that alcoholic? No going back now!]
For a very long time, I took my duty very seriously. That, and... It's unusual for seraphim to pair off, much less for life. Our lifespans are so long, and no children can result from our unions.
no subject
[Duty...that does sound familiar. Rukia looks down at her glass, idly brushing off some of the condensation with her thumb.]
Then how is a seraphim born? Do you never mature physically?
no subject
no subject
[But not much else. There are still things she wants to talk about, but she honestly doesn't know how to go about it. Nor is she convinced it's entirely wise to start pouring out her heart. There are some things she should just keep to herself for now, until she feels well enough to speak about them comfortably.]
How do you run out of mana? What is it?

[People can get devoured by Hollows and have their energy absorbed, but it isn't quite the same.]
I'd like to see your world someday...preferably when I'm a full-fledged shinigami. I'd like to understand the differences for myself.

I don't think I'm too complicated...
[Although she does have a difficult time opening her heart up to other people. She still hasn't found a really good way to admit how she feels about Raven's absolute absence.]
But thank you. I'm glad we had a chance to spend some time together tonight.
