To Esdham!
WHO: Rukia Kuchiki, OPEN
WHAT: Rukia makes a trip to Esdham for multiple purposes, the least of which is to deliver a beautifully illustrated report of the past month's summary. You might find it useful if you got lost in the last event. You might not. The post is for the report itself, but feel free to tag in for CR on the way there, on the way back, or while in Esdham itself.
WHEN: September 5th - 7th
WHERE: Esdham
As you were already made aware, the Tarutaru Palitutu, formerly known as Jessie, sent an ultimatum to the Heroes of Light requesting a meeting on the Calm Plains. If they did not appear, she threatened she would destroy the city of Aqures Ixen. We went to meet her as requested, and as promised she appeared with the Moogle Artemicion and the Heran known as Deweg. Upon arrival she asked if the Heroes of Light had discovered an alternative to defeating the Calamity that had not been previously attempted by former generations of Heroes. She claimed that our attempt to communicate with the Calamity through the Avatars had merit. She claimed that we needed these three things:
1. To improve and perfect the Soul Divider, located in the First Crystal.
2. To control the fragment of the Calamity that lingers within all Heroes summoned to this world.
3. The power to face Garland.
To test us, she attacked with the Ultima Weapon.

We were called upon to use our strongest attacks and abilities. Though some perished, it was only temporarily, and no casualties were suffered. As for Deweg's status, we cannot confirm it at this time.
Directly after the defeat of the Ultima Weapon, Palitutu banished us to the Rift, where we were able to gain access to our home worlds. It took the entirety of the month, and though many did find their way to their home worlds, we were not able to locate Palitutu until the very end of August. Accompanied by Artemicion, she informed us that she would consider us too weak to do what needed to be done unless we managed to kill her.
The ensuing battle was short, and we did come very close to ending her life. Though it was heavily considered to let her die, and heatedly debated, in the end we decided it was best to keep her alive for the time being so long as we had a way to prevent her from simply teleporting away to resume her previous crimes.

Artemicion is, as far as I am aware, currently incarcerated while Palitutu remains in critical condition at the hospital. Her fate is to be decided at a later time, presumably by the current regent Cid, but possibly by the Heroes should he defer the decision to us. In the aftermath of the battle, a gold crystal was given to us by Palitutu, which is being used to slow the progress of the Calamity and buy us more time to accomplish our objectives.
We apologize for the length of our absence and, after sufficient rest, we are ready to resume our duties to halting the crystallization of this world and saving those worlds from which we hail.

[Don't think she doesn't suspect Yuri's worried about her, though. Flynn rode over to Esdham with her too, and if Yuri's taking the trip too, well. His concern seems obvious enough, and merited. She won't blame him for taking precautions to prevent the way she'd turned out in that vision.]
[She's got her drawing pad neatly tucked under her arm as she goes to meet Yuri after the meeting. Now that her main objectives have been taken care of, she can relax. Now might be as good a time as any to have a little talk.]
[His insult to her art earns a semi-playful (but semi-serious) glare, and she holds her pad a little more protectively.]
I'm not sure I should be grateful for such a backhanded compliment.
[Her response is dry, but good-humored. If she's sad, it really doesn't show.]
Come. I'll walk you back to your inn. Perhaps if you praise my art, I might be persuaded to ask the innkeeper to give you a military discount.
no subject
Of course, he doesn't openly say all of this mostly because he doesn't want to have any serious conversations. It wasn't an insult but she could take it as she wants. He wouldn't correct her. He knows that he doesn't mean anything mean by it mostly. ]
Whatever you want to take it as, I suppose. It's helpful regardless.
[ He replies with a shrug. He smiles as he ruffles her hair. ]
That's out of the ordinary. You're usually requesting I take you back.
[ He joked, but he knew that they needed to speak so it's fine. ]
Huh, well it's not all that bad to pay in all, honestly.
[ He pats Repede some before the dog gives Rukia bark of greeting. Yuri takes a few steps towards the direction of the inn and turns back to ask her the question that's been on his mind. Of course, he knows she's probably suspecting something. He's also not trying to hide it. ]
How are you doing? Aside all the stuff that's been happening.
no subject
The barracks are just down the hall. It would be ridiculous to request an escort.
[She smiles, her stance gracefully poised but relaxed as she falls into step beside her friends. Yuri's inn it is.]
[Aaaand there it is, the question she was sure he was going to ask. She chuffs a little 'hmph' and rolls her shoulders.]
No need to be delicate with me. You're asking if I'm all right now that Raven has entered crystal stasis once again.
[Her chin lifts so she can look at him directly, and he can see that she's not about to duck away from the matter. After a moment of thought, she releases her breath and faces forward again.]
To be honest, I've been expecting it for quite some time, and I suspected it might have already happened when he didn't appear in the rift with the rest of us. I can't say I'm pleased, but it wasn't a shock. I'm well enough. What about you?
[Her elbow pokes his side.]
We may have been dating, but I expect his absence affects you just as much.
no subject
I suppose you're right but who knows with you, Shorty.
[ He added briefly. He did acknowledge her gesture of kindness. It was nice walking together every so often and they needed to talk anyway. ]
Heh. It wasn't all that delicate.
[ Yuri gives her a laugh. He was being considerate for the lack of better words. ]
Pretty much. You don't look like your usual self.
[ He waits for her to speak again without interrupting her as he keeps his hands crossed briefly. She does have a point on the fact that neither of them saw Raven during the whole event with the dimensional rifts. He was already expecting the worst. He can't say Rukia wasn't either. ]
You sure don't sound it-- me?
[ He raised a brow. He should feel really upset with this but he doesn't. He knows that it's not like the other can control what happens to him. ] H-Hey.
[ What was that jab for? He didn't do anything wrong. ]
The old man's always trying to kick the bucket one way or another. He's done a bunch of crazy stuff, so I do expect him to get into these situations. He'll be back and kicking again once this is all over. He deserves a good rest anyway.
I'm pretty sure he had a good time when he's around.
no subject
A rest... Yes, that's a good way to put it.
[Rukia nods approvingly, agreeing whole-heartedly with Yuri's assessment. Of course, he also thinks she's not looking her best. It mildly irritates her; she isn't the sort of person who drags her feet or slumps or otherwise shows off her feelings. How can he say that?]
In what way?
[Rukia bristles, but only just a little. Her expression is thoughtful as she faces forward.]
It's not melancholy. Of course I miss him, but...ah. Hmmm. How do I put this?
[It's not easy to put the feelings into words, especially since she usually doesn't even try. But Yuri's seen her at her worst, so she can try a little harder for his sake.]
He's been absent more often than he's been present. Perhaps you could say I've just grown used to it? But that's not entirely accurate either. Hmmmm...
[She furrows her brow as she knuckles her chin in thought, frowning to herself.]
I think it's just a feeling of closure. There was so much uncertainty and worry in the past, but now that I know it's truly done, it's as if I can say goodbye at last, and be grateful for the experiences he gave to me. He was my first love, after all.
[She might look strangely proud about that.]
Had I not come to this world, I'm not certain I would have ever had a chance to know what it was to date somebody, and feel that kind of intimate affection. Now that I have, how can I harbor regrets?
no subject
Close enough right?
[ He replied giving her a small smile. She isn't but Yuri is good at reading people so he will naturally pick up her vibes without her really showing them off. It's a talent and a curse for him when it comes to people. At least, he can gauge clearly with Rukia and the place that she's in right now. He keeps his distance from her to give her space but he doesn't hide that he's concerned. ]
It happens with the old man. He comes and goes as he pleases, even more easily than I do. He quite quick on his feet if you think about it. I get what you mean though. Doesn't mean that you don't feel anything about it right?
[ He gave Rukia a side glance as she said those words. ]
I figured it was something like that from the start. In any case, don't let it get you down too much. As cold as it sounds, I'm pretty sure the old man wants you to cheer up and have a good time for him when he can't right? So you just got to keep pressing forward and hopefully he'll be saved that way.
[ He wants to believe that wholeheartedly. ]
This place allows you to experience a lot of different things. Heh.
no subject
[She smiles at him, more than a little touched. They definitely weren't this close a year ago. And now here they are, oddly in synch with one another's feelings. A lot has changed, both between them and inside of herself.]
And you're right. I do miss him, and probably will for a very long time. But I feel far more gratitude than regret. You needn't worry; if my heart breaks, I won't attempt to hide it from you this time.
[No goading him into a fight in a pitiful attempt to end her life, no desperate sacrifices. There's no way she'd put him through that again.]
Of course, I'm sure he'd say the same for you. I hope you don't intend to pine for him locked away in your room.
[Her little grin widens with mischievous affection. Of course Yuri wouldn't do that, but even so. It's not easy to lose a friend without having a chance to say goodbye.]
no subject
[ He replied with a brief laugh at her comment. He really didn't want to sound like a jerk right now but sometimes it's just how his personality is and the way he talks. He knows he can be a bit blunt and straight forward and not everyone will appreciate that gesture. ]
Not saying you will or anything. I trust you'll make the right decisions on your own. I'm not here to watch your every move right?
[ He shrugged a bit giving her the space she needed. He's not her parent. He didn't need to harass her about her feelings and her decisions. He's only there to help her if she ever goes astray. Right now he truly believes she'll be fine without him involving himself in her issues. He'll support her in a different way though. ]
Alright, Shorty, you're temporarily relieved of your duties and we're going exploring!
[ This is Yuri not taking responsibilities seriously. So, he's going start pushing her away from where she needs to go. ]
no subject
[She smirks up at him, only to find herself being herded away from the road that leads to his inn. There's a flash of wide-eyed surprise on her face as she nearly trips over her feet, before she turns on him and starts pushing right back.]
Oi, don't make decisions like that on your own! I'm due for a promotion next month, I can't be neglectful of my duties.
[Tempting as it is... She's never really taken a good look around Esdham on her own before, since she's always so busy training and boning up on military files.]
no subject
[ He's going to keep walking and ignoring her comment to the best of his abilities because avoiding the actual topic is much better than trying to answer it. He's going to herd her towards whatever direction he thinks is the best. Don't worry Rukia you won't trip and fall too badly. He'll catch you before that happens. ]
I sent them a sick letter since if you're as much of a work-a-holic like Flynn is, it's pretty damn given that you need a day off. So it isn't like you're ditching your duties. Repede did the honors of delivering the letter so you don't want his effort to go to waste now do you?
[ Without a second warning, her protest is going to be met by Yuri throwing her over his shoulder. ]
And for the record, you'll try to walk back so I'm taking more liberties.
no subject
[The startled squawk was likely a sound Yuri had never heard Rukia make before. She wasn't used to being manhandled like a kitten, nor was she expecting her feet to leave the ground. The next thing she knows she's staring down at the ends of his dark hair and the scabbard of his sword hanging from his belt. Her face couldn't be any redder.]
Y-Yuri! Put me down immediately!
[She insistently starts pushing her hands against his back in a futile effort to hoist herself off of his shoulder.]
I'm a Major! If I'm seen like this, no one will take me seriously!
[Honestly, if her drawings haven't damaged her reputation, it's unlikely that being carried off by one of her best friends will hurt it any further.]
no subject
Not happening no matter how much you're fussing, Shorty.
[ He replied with a grin as he keeps walking away from their supposed destination. ]
We're taking a break.
[ He shrugged. ]
Kick their ass if they don't. I'm pretty damn sure you're terrifying in battle.
[ He added ignoring that comment as well. That's actually quite true. Her drawings were already a bad impression for her but hey he's not the type to judge so he's going to keep moving on his merry way. If some guys don't respect her after this well he'd enjoy beating respect into them somehow. ]
no subject
[A pity she can't really turn herself around to glare at him. It isn't as if she's so busy that she's not eating or sleeping, nor is she neglecting her personal hygiene.
Not until she has to be a Ghostbuster again like last October.Rukia twists again, more than a little disgruntled.]Nor do I see why this couldn't wait until I returned to Aqures Ixen! Why are you behaving so hastily?
no subject
[ Yuri doesn't even blink when she said that. He keeps walking further and further away. Her struggles were met with a stronger and firmer grip on her tiny form. If she really wanted to fight him she would have honestly and broken away. He could kind of guess she wasn't struggling too much. ]
I don't feel like waiting, call me impatient if ya want. We're already leaving the area anyway.
[ He doesn't even bother to try to make up excuses. He doesn't answer her either. ]
no subject
[She does put up a fight for a little longer, but when it becomes obvious that he isn't going to relent, it makes her wonder why he's being so insistent. And the answer seems shockingly clear. Rukia is silent for a long, long moment, before she speaks.]
Oi.
[She shifts a little from where she hangs over his shoulder.]
You're still worried about that vision coming true...aren't you.
[Does he really believe she's hurting that much...?]
no subject
[ He replied with a brief laugh from him as he continued to traverse a good distance. Once they were a good distance away from the area and he didn't see anyone but as he was about to drop her back to the ground he turns his head back at her comment. ]
That's not the entire reason since the vision is one of many possibilities. Can't say I'm completely trusting it not to come true given what we just saw with Palitutu.
[ Admittedly, he wasn't going to lie to her about the thought of it possibly happening. ]
no subject
[She's learned her lesson; it was too painful to relive a second time, and it's caused her to reevaluate her trust in Yuri and the rest of her friends. But if that's not the entire reason...]
[Rukia blinks, frowning, and tries to at least wrestled herself upright so she can look at his face.]
What's the rest of the reason then?
no subject
[ Even with the visions as a warning Yuri knows that the people here are subjected to follow the same fate if they aren’t careful. It’s not just about Rukia but Flynn and others that he’s held really close to his heart. Yuri didn’t want to have to watch his friends die, or become something they despised. ]
That’s all you’re getting.
no subject
[She's not sure how carrying her off over his shoulder is going to change all of that. But if he's holding anything back, then this may be more personal than she realizes. He got a cold the last time Raven went into stasis. Maybe he's just missing his friend again and feeling a little lonely. If so, it might explain why he followed her here.]
[Could it be that it's not to be there for her when she needs him, but because he needs her instead...?]
[Rukia is quiet as he carries her for another block. Then she gently tugs a lock of his dark hair.]
Oi. You can put me down now. I won't run off.
[She smirks a little.]
But you can hold my hand if you're really worried~
no subject
He keeps walking a few more steps before his hair gets yanked and he gives her a side look. ]
This isn’t about you running off or anything.
[ It was easier just lugging her around instead of dragging her really. ]
I’m not worried. What are you a kid?
[ He laughed casually at her comment. ]
no subject
Then what's it about? Please explain it to me.
[She props up her elbow on his back, resting her chin on her hand as she glowers at the city passing by. This remains as humiliating and embarrassing as ever.]
[But at least she's resigned to it...]
[JUST KIDDING NO SHE ISN'T because she's totally wriggling her fingers over his ribs. Tickle tickle, Yuri-chan.]
no subject
That-- is going to be saved for another day Shorty.
[ And they're walking again as Repede enjoys the amusement in front of him. Yuri doesn't budge too much a the the jab either. In fact, he just takes it as it is. He's happy for that at the very least until she was trying to tickle him and he gives her a raised brow instead ]
What are you trying you do Shorty?
no subject
[Kind of a hypocritical thing to say. She hasn't exactly been forthcoming with her own feelings, but that's more due to the fact that she's said what she felt the last time Raven went into stasis. And if he expects her to stop trying to tickle him, he's mistaken.]
I'm trying to get you to set me down and stop treating me as an invalid.
[Is this just a poor man's excuse to get a hug? What is wrong with his brain?]
no subject
[ He mused with a raised brow as her insisting that he should tell her everything. If things were that easy for Yuri, he would have done it but things weren't that easy, unfortunately. He just sighs a moment. As much as she tries to tickle him, he doesn't budge. In fact, he finds it rather amusing that she's keeping this up. ]
I'm not treating you like an invalid. In fact, it's kind of entertaining watching you squirm around like this.
[ He chuckled. ]
no subject
[Red-faced, indignant, and woefully embarrassed, Rukia's kicking and twisting intensifies significantly. Enough! She's done everything she could think of to persuade him otherwise. Now she has no choice.]
[She grabs a fistful of his beautiful luxurious silky hair and yanks on it.]
You will place me back on the ground this instant!
