Babysitting Weapons of Mass Destruction

WHO: Lust, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ira, Sheena Fujibayashi, Vincent Valentine, Selphie Tilmitt
WHAT: Cid has assigned various heroes to guard the remains of the Ultima WEAPON that were salvaged after their battle. Suspicious people try to sneak close, but they fail to be caught.
WHEN: September 11th - 13th
WHERE: Aqures Ixen - 12th District


Here sat the broken pieces of the enormous machine known as the Ultima WEAPON. The Heroes had gone through a lot of trouble to secure it, and even more trouble to subdue it. Now it sat sadly in a heap of wreckage at the airship ports, with few visitors save the occasional Hypello or dock rat.

This was what the Heroes had to guard. Prepare for boredom.

[Still holding on to his gunner and ninja job, both maxed out. Guarding he might be, but that doesn't mean he's not also being productive. Or trying to, anyways. A set of throwing knives, and he's practicing--not as skilled as with his firearms, but he's hitting targets more often than not.]

[Then Vincent wouldn't mind perhaps another quietly watching for a bit, taking some interest in what the taller of the two was doing. It was slightly more interesting than watching ants crawl up a wall. Though when he finally missed, Ira couldn't resist commenting.]

Nice one. I almost feel sorry for that bit of dock.

[He'd join in on the practicing, but he really only has one weapon to throw. So, favorite pastime of snarking his elders it is!]

[It could almost be a genuine question. Except for the hint of snark that had been in Ira's tone, and had Vincent adding a hint of sarcasm to his own.]

[Vincent could be amoral at times, depending on the situation. A 'professional amorality' was almost an unspoken requirement in his former life. Right then he may've been teasing Ira--but you couldn't tell it from his tone of voice or expressions. Especially as the knife throwing resumed once more.]

Guard duty is often like that. But depending on what happens when things go wrong, you then begin to want it to be quiet and boring.

[There's a heartbeat, before words are voiced entirely deadpan.]

It means less paperwork.

Bureaucracy is truly horrific, as it simply 'is'. It has no concept of right or wrong, nor does it care about the same. It is entirely indifferent to any need other than its own, which is to attempt to bring order and compartmentalize everything. Efficiency is its goal, but often it becomes inefficient as it breeds further attempting to bring sense and order and accountability.

[That was why it was the true horror, in Vincent's mind. Bureaucracy was entirely indifferent. It simply did not care one way or another.]

It's just so... mundane. [Oh look, he did listen.] Horror may exist in it, but only in it's excess does it appear so. And in those who only focus on their task, instead of the bigger picture.

[Though in the end, the bigger picture could be even more horrific. Or he could be calling the metaphorical kettle black.]

It's because it is mundane, that its so horrific. Of all the things one expects horror and terror from, to see the darkest evils and deepest nightmares of sentience... It is not expected from something that seems so ordinary and banal.

I was not born or raised in a ninja village, but I do have some skill.

[Sheena had likely learned a bit, if nothing else hearsay and what not on their time on Gaia. About the Turks, and Shinra. Then there had been the few times she'd managed to get Vincent to actually answer questions.]

Not the throwing of them, no. I have always preferred firearms as my weapon of choice.

But yes, concealing multiple items of contraband, in a variety of ways was something I learned. Both to make use of them myself, but also to learn how to see through such tactics.

[There's a headshake regarding her statement. Firearms, including the art of firing them, were more complicated than that. Maybe it would be an argument he would take up with her some other time.

[The tone is entirely dry and deadpan. Not entirely clear if he's joking or not. He is--whether Sheena knows him well enough or not to recognize it, is another matter.

[ From the twinkling in her eyes, she's obviously caught on to the fact that he's joking and is giving right back. ]
