Babysitting Weapons of Mass Destruction

WHO: Lust, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ira, Sheena Fujibayashi, Vincent Valentine, Selphie Tilmitt
WHAT: Cid has assigned various heroes to guard the remains of the Ultima WEAPON that were salvaged after their battle. Suspicious people try to sneak close, but they fail to be caught.
WHEN: September 11th - 13th
WHERE: Aqures Ixen - 12th District


Here sat the broken pieces of the enormous machine known as the Ultima WEAPON. The Heroes had gone through a lot of trouble to secure it, and even more trouble to subdue it. Now it sat sadly in a heap of wreckage at the airship ports, with few visitors save the occasional Hypello or dock rat.

This was what the Heroes had to guard. Prepare for boredom.

[Mary can't blame anyone for being jealous of any life of freedom, even with strings attached to it. She'll ask about these games another time, trying to keep a lighter tone on this conversation.

And yes, that twinkle is caught.

A look of surprise crosses her face at his secret, and then a furrowing of her brow as she tries to parse it. The word 'clone' isn't really one that crosses her mind. A doppelganger perhaps, like the ones here? But no, by his tone it's something different.]

This was in the world you come from? Or at least, the one you were in before you came here? It sounds like you tried to use the skills and knowledge you had to do some good though.

[She frowns as she crosses her arms, not quite sure what to say about all of this. She knows it doesn't matter to her, he seems real enough to her, but what she thinks about him doesn't matter as much about what he himself does.]

Did you ever meet this 'Riku'?

[He's almost relieved that she did so quickly, even though he knew if she told anyone else... Well, he'd be able to handle it. He'd make sure of it.]

I met him twice, at least... the one from my timeline. I actually know two more from the Tower. One older, one younger and with completely different experiences.

[The Tower was a strange, strange place.]

[Mary smirks slightly. There were a few other leading questions on her mind, but this talk about meeting others from his Tower helps her well along her way.]

So all told you were all different possibilities and people then? I'm sorry, I expect my talk about dolls put you off but...no matter how you came to be or what you are I've not had any reason to see you as anything other than yourself.

Far as I'm concerned, the measure of a man isn't the clothes he wears or the circumstances of his birth. It's what he does with his life.

Well, I did work for a store full of demonically possessed dolls for a good portion of a year.

[He says it so plainly, that if it weren't for a twinge of guilt in his eyes, no one would likely know he was actually serious. Blinking once as he shook his head, he waved it off.]

This is also the longest we've talked. Who knows? I may end up surprising you at some point.

[...That may be code for "gratitude" in his book, but he doubts she has the cypher for it yet. So, he adds:]

[She smiles and nods after a brief shade of shock and a raised eyebrow at the mention of the store of dolls. What a job that must have been. Considering all they've been through she has no reason to assume it's a joke, after all.]

Well, I'm sure we'll have further conversations to look forward to. And if it's one over one of Saori's meals all the better. She's done a fine job of catching me up on all manner of culinary developments after my time.

Yeah. I wouldn't know much about it myself had it not been for that one incident with the grease fire...

Are you familiar with mozzarella sticks? They're one of the things she introduced me to on our first dinner together.

Vaguely. I'm more fond of fish sticks, myself.

[Mary chuckles a bit, having had a chance to try those as well.]

They're not bad. Certainly less messy than cooking a fish over a fire with a stick. It loses a little something though. Course, anything you have the time to prepare or cook will be different than something being et at a campsite or while out at sea.

I've had enough salted meats to last me a lifetime. Perhaps more accurate to say two at this point.

Ever heard of replacement meal bars? Pretty sure I've had enough of those for at least one thousand years.

No, not something I can say I've run across. But I can imagine what they're like just by the name. I'm guessing they last a mite longer than a barrel of salted meats though.

Pretty much just a lot of grains packed together with things that are just as bland. Tastes like sawdust, and can last for months.

Hmmm, I think my Brothers might be more willing to keep that in supply than my sailors then.

[Pirates or Navy, the crew of a ship would certainly revolt if the food was bad. The Assassins on the other hand would likely make good and strategic use of emergency supplies that wouldn't spoil so easy.]

If they won't get so incredibly bored of only that after the second week, I'd be impressed.

[Yeah you can imagine he's seen a few of those revolts, though it was a bit different... and he may or may not have been involved.]

"Brothers"? [Because the way she said it, he's fairly certain she doesn't mean the familiar sense of the word.]

[Mary chuckles at the comment.]

Aye, they'd likely get bored, but if it was two weeks straight of the stuff then like as not that we're in a life or death situation and can't go hunting or scavenging.

The Assassins I mentioned before. They're properly known as the Brotherhood of Assassins, at least among ourselves and the more polite of our enemies.

[She frowns, pausing briefly. She's been recruiting from the Heroes in this world among anyone who is interested or skilled, but Ira's apparent age and Saori's potential reaction gives her pause.]

I've done my best to carry on our traditions and purpose here, though perhaps I've not done as well as my predecessors.

[The ironic thing is, if he'd come fresh from Castle Oblivion, he'd join in a heartbeat if asked. He's done it once before, after all--joining a group without thinking of the consequences. All for a chance to get back at those who would play at gods.]
