[Flynn was in deep thought after the events of the meeting. There was a sense of urgency, and after being here for a while, it really felt like it wouldn't last forever. Strength, was it the answer? The bonds between people? Using the systems of this land to change everything up? There were too many variables and Flynn still felt like he knew next to nothing of how to go about dealing with all of this. But at least from all of this, he felt like he knew himself a little better. It was better than nothing. And if nothing else, he was glad he could spend the last days among his friends as Flynn Scifo, not a Commandant.]

Oh, thank you.

[It wasn't something new being a spectacle, but given that the end of the world was approaching, he supposed training was something considered strange.]

I haven't seen many with the spear. Have you experience before coming to this world?

[mindofathief]

Not with fighting with weapons. [His pocketed hand rubs the inside of the pocket, which is quickly removed.] I've only seen spears and swords in storybooks anyway. I doubt anyone from my world knows how to fight with one.

Oh. It must be a nice, peaceful world without need for weaponry.

[Flynn smiled at Duster at the thought.]

Did you come here to train? Or was there another purpose?

[mindofathief]

Not really. [He shakes his head.] It was more that the people who built my village didn't want anything dangerous from the old world, so we had to get creative. He walks up to the training dummy, knocking on it a few times to test its give.] The invaders brought guns, anyway.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to say in this sort of situation.

[Flynn shrugs. It's not that he's unsympathetic, he just honestly run out of ways to show concern anymore.]

Well, I can't recommend bringing a knife to a gun fight, but perhaps we can work together to see how to counter such things for when you finally return home.

Oh, no, we already dealt with them. We were able to wake the Dark Dragon up, and he rebuilt my world into something new. After destroying it and scaring the wits out of everyone.

[...A lot happened when Duster was away from home.]

But I guess we would have had trouble without psychic powers.

Huh.

Psychic powers, huh? Sounds like there's a story there.

I'm not sure. My friends were born with them, but their powers were awakened, somehow. Most of Lucas' powers were about healing and protecting us, while Kumatora was more aggressive. It might have to deal with their personalities.

[Yeah.]

Anyway, Lucas had a special power that allowed him to wake the Dark Dragon, and I was there to keep him safe. You know, fighting and lowering enemies' defenses.

[Because when your party members can deal more damage, Duster's role in boss fights is to debuff, debuff, debuff, attack a bit.]

That's a praiseworthy skill. You may not land the killing blow, but without your support, victory is simply a fantasy.

... [A lopsided grin grows on his face. Hearing direct praise still is a new thing for him to get used to.]

I don't think much of it. All you need is the right tool and a bit of practice.

Indeed, but without the right tool or practice, it's all for naught.

You do deserve recognition for your role, for you did not sit back and claim a future for which you did not work for.

That's...an interesting way of putting it.

[He looks genuinely surprised at the thought. Normally Duster would struggle to find worth in his actions, unless it had to do with music. Lucas was the one with the ability to save the world. Kumatora was the most powerful human psychic in the world. Duster was...there, being helpful.]

Not as much "interesting" as perhaps the "way things should be".

Taking things for granted does nobody any favors.

[Duster doesn't answer for a minute, instead focused on the dummy and his answer. Objectively speaking, Duster is much more skilled than the average person. He's able to fight monsters and survive in the wilderness. He's a master of traveling up vertical walls. But how was he supposed to know that if no one ever fold him.]

...Has anyone ever taken you for granted?

That's of no consequence. What must be done must be done.

[He looks away, slightly embarrassed from having asked such a prying question.]

I was thinking of training together. Both of us, on this dummy. It'll be like fighting Garland.

It's true, teamwork is something integral to a good fight. It matters not how strong we are, if we don't know how to work together, things may fall apart at the most crucial moment.

[Flynn was impressed by his new companion's astuteness.]

What would you say are you strengths in combat, aside from support?

[mindofathief]

Hand-to-hand stuff, or to be truthful, I fight mainly with kicks. I'm pretty quick, and I stopped a couple of guys trying to ambush us.

Kicks can truly be devastating in place of losing your footing, which means in order to be successful you must also plan ahead and make careful calculations on the fly in order to succeed.

[Flynn is impressed.]

Sounds to me you more than pull your weight.

...My dad said that to survive, I needed to overcome my biggest weaknesses or else the enemy would exploit that. [Said the man who walked with a permanent limp.] I kind of had to, growing up.
