Oh, how am I gonna be an optimist about this?
Characters: Team Incompatible Housemates ( Ace, Tear Grants, Sayaka Miki, Kyoko Sakura )
Where: Misery Mire – Ruins of Balicea, Ghost City of Aqures Ixen.
When: March 5th, Five Years Later...
Summary: When a person says they want to go to the beach, they don't expect to wake up in the World of Ruin instead.
Truth be told, Tear could barely comprehend what had been happening aboard the Enterprise, torn between ignoring her injuries and staying awake with the other Heroes or simply falling asleep until they reached refuge. Not that it would have mattered anyway, because the last thing she remembered was the deafening screech of wood and metal coming apart when the entire ship began shaking uncontrollably, shouts of panic joining the chorus as arms tightened around her before everything went dark.
It was still somewhat dark when she opened her eyes again, the sky above thick with ominous mist and muffled roars echoing in the distance. Blinking slowly, the melodist groaned softly and carefully sat up to better look around... only to have her head snap back when her hand not only pulled down on the nest of hair surrounding her, but also sank into the mud it had been placed upon. "Ah—?!"
Hastily fighting to pull her hand back, Tear looked around again as best she could from her awkward position. A mound of blue was nearby, with what looked to be another mound of colour out of place further away, and beyond that still was a black and angry landscape extending to the horizon that seemed to move dangerously. Grimacing, she would hurry to investigate, if only the startlingly stubborn swamp would relent and release her already.

His lungs demanded air, that's all Ace could focus on when he awoke to a chilling sensation spreading through his chest. It's almost as if he was drowning and there was not an ounce of strength left in his limbs, that's how stiff they felt as he tried to force himself up. Or maybe float up? Once, twice... Third time was the charm.
"Ugh..." A garbled groan evolved into a coughing fit when he'd finally broken through the surface and sat down, quickly realising that it hadn't been anything more than a shallow pool of water that rose no higher than his ankles. His head ached, but there were no bleeding or visible injuries. How odd... Having fought and then crashed, he'd somehow expected a much worse outcome than ringing in his head that was already slowly subsiding. That alone raised questions as to why his body had initially reacted so strangely, but instead he decided to take an advantage of his state to familiarise himself with his environment.
Faintly remembering his attempt at teleporting before the ship fell down, he racked his mind trying to find anything recognisable about the area, but the task was made all the more difficult by the dim light. It felt familiar... but not quite enough to say for sure. What he did know was that he wasn't alone.
Tear was there, just a few steps away, fighting a battle of her own with the mire. Drenched and dirty as he was, the cadet instinctively got to his feet as soon as he saw the scene, feelings of relief mixing with those of worry. His outfit suddenly weighed far more than it had the right to, and everything was all kinds of blurry as he peered through damp strands of hair sticking to his face, so he stepped carefully, but surely, mindful of the nature's traps.
"I've got you." As he extended both of his hands for the melodist to hold onto, it caught his attention that there were two more people he hadn't noticed before.
"... Kyo...ko? Sayaka...?" While his voice sounded doubtful, he would recognise his former housemates anywhere, for they made a quite memorable duo.

Colorful language bounces off the mud below. Glowing red for a moment, precious magic is wasted as she dries the water and mud away. The difference between her former 15 or so years to now is striking. Unruly red locks cascade down her back, at some point it came out of her ponytail. It seemed she was always due to have an athletic, lithe build. Her transformation has changed with her, the red henshin hugs to curves that were not there before. Her face has lost the fullness of adolescence -- though she did not grow any taller.
Ignoring the uncomfortable feeling of her hair Kyoko spots Ace as she looks around and blatantly ignores him. Hadn't...
"Sayaka!"
She launches herself off the tree, using her spear as a lasso to make her way beside the girl, splashing back into the water -- though she keeps a tight hold on the chain attached above her.
"Hey! Wake up!"

Now that she was wide awake, and appropriately dirty, she pushed herself up into a sitting position, "Eh?! What the... Ace? Kyoko!" And another hero too, she was sure. "Where the heck are we?! What's..." Dirty grimy locks of blue are all around her, tangled and soaking up the muddy waters. "What's going on, we... we crashed, didn't we?"
She's picking up what she still can't believe are strands of her own hair, wondering how it got so long so suddenly. Magic? Weird things were always going on in Crystallis, sheesh!

Working to pull herself up, her attention wasn't completely captured by her partner's presence. She still caught on to the names uttered, and looked toward the other duo waking up out of their less than pleasant slumber. Though she may have heard their names before from Ace, this was in fact her first time meeting them in person... if one could call this a meeting, given they seemed to have just been ignored.
"Before we do anything, is anyone hurt?" Nevermind her own state of being—which, come to think of it, was much better than she thought it would be considering the pain she had been in earlier...

Ace hadn't expected a warm welcome to be surprised with Kyoko's behaviour, nor he was in the state of mind to demand it. Simply seeing others up and awake was the proof he needed to consider their next steps, though it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the sense of uneasiness that accompanied his observations. Sayaka's reactions only confirmed he wasn't the only one confused by the... rather unsubtle tweaks to their appearance.
"My injuries are gone," he stated flatly as he exchanged glances with Tear. As his vision gradually cleared, he could see it so much better... nevermind the unruly hair, occurring within them were far more important changes.
Alas, given the circumstances, staying afloat took precedence, so he treated the entire party to a Levitation spell.
Yes, that includes Kyoko.no subject
"Heh, you look like a mess."
Had they crashed? Who cared -- they were alive. "Nice thinking there, Chicken boyaahShit!" When levitation takes hold, Kyoko scrambles at the odd sensation of being lifted. The body of her lance extends with crucifixion to burrow downwards into the ground, she winds up in a kneel atop the water like a knight with a sword, grasping with white knuckles as if for life. Aiming a murderous look towards Ace and Tear,
"What. the. hell.!"

"Like you look any better. That little trick should prevent you from sinking like a rock at least," Sayaka had her footing now, closing the last bit of distance between her and Kyoko, and leaning down to offer the other girl a hand up, a slightly mischievous glint in her eye.
"Where the heck is this, though? Some kind of labyrinth?" Little chance it was a witch's doing, but there had to be some explanation for their change in appearance...
no subject
"If by labyrinth you mean we should watch our step, then yes." Freeing herself from the mud had been an effort already, and it had only been minutes since they had woken up. Now that they were no longer struggling, she took a moment to catalogue her own health... but the lack of pain hadn't been her imagination. "My injuries..."
Looking up to Ace's face again in shock, the differences in his appearance begin to register in earnest. Since she had nothing to compare Kyoko and Sakura to it was hard to tell for sure, but Tear liked to believe she had a good memory of what her boyfriend's face looked like. "Your hair... it's a mess."
Nevermind that her own would be well to her knees if it weren't so caked in mud.

... Thankfully, Sayaka came to his rescue by speaking up before he had the chance to, or else there was no telling whether it wouldn't just turn into another pointless feud. He nodded at her reassuringly in return. "As soon as you feel the spell growing weaker, let me know and I'll reapply it for you."
Turning back to Tear, he was met with yet another inquisitive stare. "... So is yours," the cadet uttered, proving his point by reaching out to her and brushing the troublesome strands of hair aside. Secretly, it was his excuse to get a better view of her features as he searched for any signs of old wounds. Only moments ago - or what felt like moments ago, he had been on the verge of losing her. For all he knew, her body could be now going through a shock.
"We'll... figure this out." He gave her hand a gentle squeeze before freeing it from his grasp, finding it harder than ever to let go. "Stay where you are."
The second message was directed at the whole group. "I'll scout ahead to ensure there are no monsters lurking nearby. It's like we're asking for an ambush." Besides, he was just as interested in learning more about their whereabouts, and flying was his best bet. Lifting himself up in the air high enough to see what stretched beyond the marshes, he wasn't surprised by the sight of beasts roaming the lands - if anything, they had been lucky to avoid an encounter thus far.
No, that certainly wasn't the biggest news.
Moments later, he was back on the ground, looking mildly confused as he sought attention from the rest of the group. "There are all sorts of threats out there. At least one Malboro and a couple of Mandragoras and Bombs." However, it was clear that he wanted to focus on something else. "I had a feeling I had seen this place before, but watching it from above...." His voice trailed off as he reconsidered his answer. Even despite the drastic changes, the shape of terrain remained almost identical...
"These are the Calm Plains."

"Of course I do." Raising a hand up to her hair, Kyoko twists the locks around into a rope. Her modular weapon detaches, the sharp head hoovering like an impatient cobra before darting forwards and slicing off a precise length. Returning it with uncanny precision to where she used to wear it, hands pull the hair back up. It's still filthy, some of the mud splatter on her cheek has dried -- she doesn't seem bothered by it, never moving to wipe it away.
It looks like the lancer is about to say something at Ace's insistence on scouting, but he's already gone, instead Kyoko's laughter follows after her former housemate when he majestically flys away.
She looks and sounds bored at his revelation, "So?"
no subject
There was a quiet "Heh," as her hand was brushed off, in a way, it was reassuring to see the same old Kyoko in this world that now seemed so unfamiliar. Following her lead, Sayaka pulled at the long strands that she had no intention of getting used to, pulling her hair taut and running the edge of her sword along it with immense concentration. The kind that had her sticking her tongue out juuuust slightly as she worked.
The end result was somewhere around her former length, though it was uneven nearly the whole way around. Proud of it all the same, she replaced her blade just in time for Ace to come back, answering him with a "Ehh? These are the Calm Plains?! But what happened? The Calamity... I thought we had it contained..."
And if this is what it could do to nature, she worried for the lives of the people of the surrounding cities... "Wait if this is the Calm Plains, then that means—" give her a second, she's really trying here... "Aqures Ixen isn't far off!"
no subject
"The plains...?" Brow furrowing, she looked around once again in an attempt to find any stronger resemblance to the land she remembered aside from the vague feeling of familiarity. Even if the Calamity had crept in, things surely wouldn't have changed so drastically and quickly. Looking to Sayaka, she nodded as her expression grew increasingly troubled.
"There were still deeply affected regions, but with careful placement of crystals and the efforts of various Heroes and organised forces the Calamity was kept at bay. Unless something happened to them, but to happen on all fronts?"
She could tell that some time had passed simply from their appearances, though the more she thought about it the more the sinking feeling in her stomach grew. Breathing in, she focused instead on Sayaka's observation.
"Aqures Ixen... and Balicea. Even Esdham, was there a way we could find out which where we're closest to?"
Does this work? They can think Ace went scouting and not return?
She shoots a fanged grin over to her blue haired counterpart, "Good thinking Sayaka, there's sure to be food there."
So they were by, a lot of hubs! Good. Crossing the body of the length of her spear behind her neck, Kyoko rests hands on it. She looks about when she doesn't feel the weight of a judgmental glare, just for having her priorities straight.
"Chicken boy must be checking."
