He scanned the abyss, the crystal fragments in the distance, trying to gauge their location in relation to the First Crystal. It had slipped out of their sight during the battle, but they couldn't have drifted that far from it, could they?

Unless his initial guess had been correct and they had ended up in the Rift again? Physical distance might not mean much in that case. He could try to open a gate for them, but knowing how these things went... That would probably be premature.
