[He finds a surface to stand on. A table, a chair, an unfortunate someone's shoulders.]
So. It's alla us in a place made of crystal, only we're standin' on three crystal platforms. The platforms are floatin' over nothingness, albeit there are crystals formations all around. There's the First Crystal floating before us, but we're givin' more attention to fighting Ramza-Kalki. Ramza-Kalki disappears and then Bahamut appears and attacks us, but we're pretty much overpowered at this point and we beat it fast, and it falls in the abyss.
Only that ain't the end. In the abyss though the dragon seems to undergo a transformation. One of its hand emerges from the abyss and grips the platform, but it's now as big as the platform itself.
And that's it. No tellin' what it turned into.

"who would want to fight it. It's a very big long shot, but we could probably convince it we're good guys and Kalki's evil."

Upon unavoidably stepping on the crystallized grass, they would find it shattering in countless pieces under their steps. And by the crystal they would see a familiar figure that was busy staring at the dying crystal. It looked just like Ramza, but… That wasn’t really him, was it?

He looks, first to each of the corners of the garden, and then to the center. It's empty. There had been- maybe a glimmer of hope that someone would be waiting for him here when he got here. A selfish hope, because it wasn't truly Ib, but the shadow of her trapped here from a world gone forever.
But his heart wanted to see his daughter one last time before the end.
"Where are the others?" Kaji finally speaks up. He takes another step forwards, crunching crystal. "Igor and Nebilim. Ib, and. Well-" Crunch. "You?" And, more imporantly, Shakyamuni. Her absence is the most disturbing of all. But Kaji is going to keep that card against his chest for now.

"So, this is the Planet's Core. You've made quite a mess of the place, I see." He prodded the crystallized grass with his foot, shattering it. "Either Shakyamuni showed us an illusion of it before, or there was always an overlap between the Core and the Rift. Which is it, I wonder?"
After all, Shakyamuni had specifically said the garden was inside the Interdimensional Rift. Jade almost hoped it had been nothing but an illusion. If what she'd shown them was the real Core, that... would probably make things more complicated.

The ground shakes very slightly and the aura grows oppressing-- Listening into the distance, it sounds as though faint and ethereal screams can be heard. Thousands, millions, billions of voices? It was hard to tell, the noise is too faint and the cacophony too grand to be understood.
"By having merged with Narayana, Kalki gained all of its strengths and resistance. But Narayana gained all of her weaknesses. This is no coincidence. For so many shattered consciousnesses to find wholeness, we shall need your melodies. We cannot die yet perhaps we may find rest. This, too, is no coincidence."
A pause.

The presence of an entity can clearly be felt, but nothing can be seen or heard all around the Heroes of Light. In the meantime, the entity doesn't appear to be attacking them.

"You... You imbeciles...!"
Ramza-Kalki very slowly pushed themselves off the ground, getting on a knee and coughing blood. For the first time, they looked angry and hateful.
"Don't you realize it was all for you...? For everyone?" Another bloody cough. There was obviously not enough strength left in them to fight the Heroes any longer. "Why must you enjoy this rotten existence that much... Do you think there are no other Ancients out there? People like them are everywhere... You fight them, defeat them and then they return. So long as existence is the way it is, people like them will always exist. And in their wake, other Calamities and Crystallises shall always follow. Their designs will always destroy lives and worlds, cause pain and death. That is the existence you're defending... It's not even living, it's just surviving. You can't stop all cycles. You can't save all lives. You can't even live what lives are saved. And when presented with an option to fix it all, you would deny it...? You would favor eternal return over a better existence?"

Minato approached Ramza-Kalki without an expression, then shot a pensive look at the others around him. Inwardly, he exhaled a sigh of relief he was correct that those who were separated from them are alright. Back to his more immediate concern bathed in an ugly red... He doesn't turn his cool eyes away from the fire in theirs, unfeterred by wrath; at least outwardly.
"Would you hurt us, if I healed you? Or will you finally accept you're outnumbered?"

The SeeD wasn't sure if her words would hold much weight with the others who sooner kill Ramza-Kalki then try this route, but she still had to try. She sheathed her nunchaku and turned to the others with a thoughtful, but tired look. Ultimately, Selphie just wants to go home, wherever that may be.

Goodbye to Sephiroth [Open]
"...shortly before we left for Pandemonium, I was asked if I was ready to do what was necessary. If I can save even just one more World by doing so, there really isn't a choice."
Sephiroth swallowed hard as he overheard the reasoning's and goodbyes that the other three were putting forwards. Glancing away from Cloud just then he caught Selphie in his gaze as she came quickly to a similar conclusion. Such a display of raw emotion stirred the same in kind, roaring instantly inside him like a caged animal. The tall silver haired man balled his fists before setting that stalwart resolve once more and stepped closer to Cloud. The calm smile had hardly faltered, but emotion shimmered in the permanent gleam to his eyes as he set a hand finally on the shorter man's shoulder.
"Memories are the real eternity, are they not?"

Eventually, the usually perky brunette sat up a little straighter as she looked at Sephiroth with guilt on her face. There was regret mixed into the expression as the tears she'd been fighting back finally began to fall. It was too soon to say goodbye, they hardly knew each other, never really got the chance to talk very often and now, all those chances were leaving. She'd never get to make him smile again or listen to any stories he might have been holding back as she pulled her hand away from Ramza's shoulder and held it up to the Elite.
Her hand trembled along with her voice as she finally said, "Thank you, Sephiroth."

Eventually he met with Selphie's eye contact again and one of his mostly-hidden eyebrows almost twitched at the guilt that he saw. It was that exact reason that he went closer to her first, close enough to catch that hand with his own and wrap his longer fingers around it before crouching so that he wouldn't be so far away.
All reason for the distance he often kept between himself and others was dissolving like mist on a summers morning.
"...I'll not hear any thanks without returning them at least three-fold, Selphie. Without people with positive outlooks, like yourself, it could well have been me in place of Ardyn. Worse than that, even."
He paused, the barest tremble across the tip of his chin being brought still. He did lower his eyes though, thinking of Zelda...of Terra...
"There will always be a need for your colorful light to chase shadows away."

"Well, ain't you the the succinct one again?" He took off his robe, letting Ramza's head rest on his lap while he folded it, and slide it under him as a makeshift pillow. His knees were hurting, and this old man needed to move around before he strained something.
"Took you this long, but it seems you really did learn somethin' after all. And look at you all not-stoic like that. It's a fittin' look."

"Perhaps." A light shrug as he came to a stand still just a pace before Mordecai. Their relationship had been rockier than most, yet almost like the father-figure he'd never had, the Barkeep had always offered a different perspective; not that Sephiroth had ever really taken a moment to appreciate it.
"...or maybe some unconscious part of me learned it a while ago, but I was consciously blinded by what it might mean to accept it." He looked down towards Ramza, and then back to Barkeep; he hadn't known how close they were but it was clear now. It wasn't important anymore what he knew now or hadn't yet figured out about others.
"My best wishes for his recovery. He's a strong spirit indeed to have survived that ordeal..."

He swallowed the lump of emotion in his throat and forced out the familiar bravado as usual. "Well look at you. The SOLDIER Hero. Show off."

Sephiroth could have been ready for any comment from Reno, but something so sharp and resonating not a small amount of bravado honestly caught him off guard for a moment. Really, though -as he quickly concluded- he couldn't have expected anything more or less.
It lightened his expression a great deal though, turning it more towards that bad-ass ego he used to hold himself up to. A whisper of younger times and easy sarcasm between best friends.
"...of course. Gotta hold to some old titles, after all." Though he tried to put on his best brushing-off tone, as if to mirror Reno's bravado, it didn't quite lose all of the weight that his sacrifice had that -quite rightly- would be felt more so by his fellow Gaians.
"Only this time, it's much more of a fitting result. Don't you think?"

Others could tell Cloud what their version of Sephiroth did, what their destiny is, or should be. But this was his Sephiroth. The road wasn't easy, but this is the one he chose to believe in time and again. Even for the price they were now asking to be paid, he had no regrets in standing by his side.
Cloud gasped as the contact pulled him back to the present, all of that thought churning in his mind over scant seconds. When he looked up into the SOLDIER's green eyes he smiled, but his lips quivered and the tears began to run. "I'll always remember you. I'll tell others and remind them that you were here and everything you did for them. You'll always have a place to belong in our hearts and our memory."

Indeed, there was much and more that might help to placate the Calamity and finally set all of those souls to rest. All of what he was, all of what he could have been -good or evil- it all weighed the same. It seemed finally more than a fair price for him to pay.
Sephiroth resisted to bite at the corner inside of his mouth in the face of Cloud's smile, but instead fought to keep his own pulse rate from rising and his own expression calm. It woke butterflies in his stomach, to think that he could be remembered in such a way. Out of his own choice, no less, rather than some machination beyond his influence.
That, despite all of it, he'd really make a difference in the end.
"Hm." Shining eyes didn't even blink as he nodded gently in response. There really was not anything else he could have asked of Cloud. But there were a few words that Sephiroth wasn't about to leave unsaid. He'd never get the chance to say them otherwise.
"Without your faith in me, we all know it could have been a completely different story for me. Don't discount that..ever." There was the smallest quiver of the very tip of Sephiroth's chin but his resolve held firm.
"You have made these memories possible, Cloud."

She made her way over, managing a somewhat watery smile. "I suppose they are," she said. "I know I… I never want to forget. Not you, nor anyone else." She stopped, shaking her head, and looked up at him. "I'm… glad we had the chance to meet," she said, a little softer.

But living...living was that one opportunity he'd been gifted in being brought to Crystallis, and often in the face of that daunting freedom the warrior had found himself at a loss. It was acquaintances -no, friends- like K'pandolu who had always helped to nudge him back at least in the direction of a path he might have taken.
Like so many others, she'd never lost faith.
"-me too." Once he had finished looking her over a few dozen times and felt ready to respond it was very much the only thing Sephiroth could say in response. He tried to widen the smile he'd managed to prevent from dropping so far, but at the risk of making his own eyes water instead Sephiroth stepped promptly forwards towards K'pandolu and made to wrap arms around her shoulders.

That old haunted look wasn't there now. If anything, Sephiroth seemed... content. This one decision wasn't influenced by anyone -- not Shinra, not Gaia's Calamity, not Crystallis. Just Sephiroth himself, choosing to be a Hero on his own terms.
Jade understood it. That didn't lessen the ache in his chest, elicited by the knowledge that he'd have to watch his friend die before him once again. He took a step forward and, after a second of hesitation, offered his hand to shake.
"I had hoped to keep you alive to the very end." It wasn't a plea or an attempt at guilt-tripping to make him reconsider. All that was showing on Jade's face was acceptance and sorrow -- accompanied by, of course, a smile. "But I suppose you don't really need me pestering you anymore, do you?"
No more healing, no more pushing a volatile man into action or pacifying his destructive urges. Then again, Sephiroth had hardly needed any of that for a long time. After all was said and done, he had come to stand on his own just fine.
