#7 | Return from the Brink
Characters: Sephiroth & OPEN (except 8th Feb: CLOSED to Jade Curtiss)
Where/When: 8th Feb - Republic of Esdham: A makeshift clinic, 9th Feb Onwards - Aqures Ixen: Hospital
Summary: Sephiroth's ordeal out towards the Desert of Roalie has left him battered, most notably with a leg which is now broken in two places. Even with potions and white magic available, the resources at Esdham are strained in the wake of the recovering effort after the attack by the Herans. Sephiroth is later transferred to Aqures Ixen Hospital where help befitting a Hero of Light is more readily available. Still, it's going to take time for him to get back on his feet.
Warnings: Cuts, bruises, broken limbs; as expected considering. Also he's lost a good few inches from the length of his hair but probably best not to talk about that.
EDIT: Added a #3) Here
#1) 8th Feb - Republic of Esdham: A makeshift clinic [Closed: Jade Curtiss]
Late on the 7th Feb, a rush of activity had ripped through one of the makeshift clinics set up to deal with the aftermath of the attack by the Heran Empire. Someone had been found, much further out than anticipated, by one of the preliminary patrols sent out towards the oasis, and even though the medical staff on hand had tried to keep their tones hushed on account of the late hour, the clinic was already over-capacity and so the urgent healing required by a Hero of Light couldn't be kept a secret.
The unmistakable sound of rain hitting the roof of the tent, or rather the absence of it's wetness hitting his face was what greeted Sephiroth as he came around. The afterglow of a Cure-spell receding it's color as the white-mage Tarutaru currently on shift lowered her hands and offered a kind smile in his direction before leaving just as he squinted eyes first and then chanced to open them. There was no more open-sky above him; so he hadn't dreamed that patrol after all. It had been difficult to tell, given the hallucinations -that dream a few nights ago, for example- that had to have signaled that his body were finally giving up on him.
As if it were waiting specifically for him to regain more consciousness first, the pain then all came crashing back. Sephiroth had gotten an elbow under his one side -the other were in a sling tight up against his chest- but the reeling nausea, centered in particular around that deep agony of bone moving like it shouldn't put him back down prone instantly. With stars across his vision no less. He blinked, registering details as he looked down over himself. There was a plaster cast up to his thigh, and also a supportive brace around his left leg and it were elevated just slightly by way of a few pillows beneath his ankle. He couldn't feel his toes as they poked out of the bottom. He swallowed a rising sick feeling that was stirred and -for the time being- drew his focus into the roof of the tent.
#2) 9th Feb Onwards - Aqures Ixen: Hospital [Open]
If there was something to say of the Aqurean government, they cared for their Heroes a lot. As soon as Sephiroth were out of the immediate hypothermic danger he'd been found in, arrangements had been made for his transportation to a better facility. A small airship had been arranged -no small feat considering the devastation to the airport that had been inflicted- and he'd been away.
Still, not much that Sephiroth could do with one arm still strapped in close to his chest and his leg throbbing away in it's heavy plaster cast and brace which was more often than not elevated into a position from which he couldn't miss it even if he wanted to. Talk about it being staged directly in his face. Hindsight really was 20/20, that leap had been a risk; but what was the alternative? To be killed anyway? Captured? Spencer had already informed him that some of the other Heroes had been taken. Sephiroth scowled heavily every time his thoughts were inevitably drawn that way; another failure to chip away at his pride.
His silver hair had been braided and was set down across one mostly-unblemished shoulder; it was noticeably shorter though. Having had to have had the singed ends cut away. Overall, Sephiroth sat mostly with the backrest up, alone in the ward they'd given him, in silence while the lesser injuries he had sustained; various cuts, bruises and burns, were gradually treated by potion, lotion or Cure-spells. Most often he could be found reading a book, slowly sipping at a glass of water, or reviewing some of the notes that he'd had Spencer bring him from his study area back at the house.
He hadn't the heart to have Spencer send a message to let significant others know he'd been recovered safely, as such exchanges would only lead to what he considered to be unnecessary concern; even as it became obvious that he wouldn't be getting back on his feet nearly as quickly as he would have had he been mako-infused, or so 'special' as he had been before. That and he wasn't sure he could take the pity.

It's good to see him feel a bit cheerful even if it was short lived. Baked goods isn't an actual meal, so she would not have her eat if she could help it! She eyed the food and such on the side of the bed. She knitted her brows together. People are so stubborn sometimes, but it's also the matter of pride that is put on the line as well. Selen would not be very happy, being put in a position like Sephiroth's so she understood, yet she still didn't want to leave him alone.
"I insist, since I don't suppose having sweets is a good for your health? Though, it can definitely bring spirits up without a doubt!" she chimed with a smile.

He scoffed a short laugh at her comments about all the foods that others had brought him and agreed with a side-tilt of his head towards her.
"It helps with the sugar levels, but that's about all." Sephiroth forced something of a half-smile at Selen. "I might have to take you up on that offer then, when I get to go home."
Not that he wouldn't cook his own meals, crutches or not, but right now he couldn't imagine what difficulties there might be. The concept of putting any weight on that leg was currently enough to make him feel nauseous on it's own.

She placed a hand on her hip, "Yes, and spiking sugar levels isn't good for a growing man that needs healing," she replied chuckling some more, "Why not now? I'm sure you could use something healthy and edible. I still insist on it, and I wouldn't mind making you a recovery meal when you get discharged form the hospital!"
She was totally not eager to do this at all! Yes, he should be a good boy and let Selen pamper him, even though she hardly knew him! Such a strange woman she was... Sephiroth has a slight sense of humour though. His half attempted comments amused her.

It was almost clear on his face, Sephiroth really didn't know what to make of that comment. He wasn't used to anyone really looking after him, much less mothering him to the extent that Zelda and Selen both seemed to be keen on in the face of that obvious fact that he would have difficulty managing certain tasks on his own.
Still, he couldn't argue with her. He'd already resolved within himself to try and increase his iron intake as it might assist with the speedy recovery that he needed. For that reason he took a deeper breath and set his jaw a little against a sharp retort that swam at the surface of his thoughts; he was a big boy, he would manage on his own! But he didn't want to seem rude either-
"You're probably right. As long as it's no trouble-" Sephiroth paused, and thought this through again. It just didn't make much sense to him how someone would come all the way here to see him, then offer to go back home again in order to cook him something and then bring it here? It seemed incredibly illogical and long winded.

There's a good boy. Consider her pleased with his resolve, since she only wanted what was best for an injured person. She rested her hands on her hips and waited for his response to her. She had quite the patience for most people.
"Not at all," she chimed nodding her head, "Now what's a big boy like you want for a meal? I'm sure the kitchen staff here will lend me the kitchen at least. Oh, and do you prefer light seasonings or heavy seasonings on whatever it is you want to eat?" she mused happy and cheerful as she can be in a situation like this. Nothing was illogical to her. If she can't use the kitchen here, she'd go home and do it. There's no issue with that.

It was just all too much.
"Suddenly I'm not all that hungry, actually." He muttered lowly but didn't look back up to Selen at all. In fact he seemed to be hoping that someone else would walk in just about now and get her to leave.

It seemed like she triggered something. It wasn't like the earlier conversation in which it was light hearted, though she's not quite sure. Well no matter, she supposed she'll understand it eventually. Though, he did seem a bit more firm on his response this time.
"Hmm...?" she eyed him, "Are you certain? I can leave it with the nurses if you don't want it now."
Despite that, she still offered out of her own volition. If he declined it again, she supposed it would be best to let him be but she'll probably still let the nurses give it to him as hospital food.

"Do as you will." It was another low, rumbling mutter but usually most people would have backed right off from him by now. Still, it was clear that Selen was not most people. He took care to keep his eyes from flicking back up at her again, and reached instead for his glass of water; he felt dry again, all of a sudden.

She noticed his glance, though she said nothing to question why he looked at her in such a manner. His answer was at least something she was glad to hear. A smile lined her face, much more sincere than her teasing one moments before, "I'll get to it right away. I'm not sure what you would prefer to eat, but I'll just play with it."
She replied, preparing to leave the room, since she felt that the conversation went as far as it possibly could for the time being.
